Dash Instrument Cluster

Caterpillars highly flexible Dash Instrument Cluster has five gauges,

18 LED indicator lights, and two LCD digital displays. Communicating
on the SAE J1939 data link, the cluster is able to provide critical
operating information to the user while the machine or engine is in use.
The Navigator 10.4cTS is a compact, embedded Intel Pentium based
hardened PC designed for use in rugged outdoor environments. The
system incorporates a 10.4 transflective LCD for superior viewing in
high light conditions with a broad-range dimmable back-light for viewing
in low light conditions. The integrated high-light rejection infrared
touch-screen provides a means for reliable operator input in extreme
operating conditions.
The Cat Messenger operator information dashboard display provides
real-time, visual feedback on engine or machine operating conditions
to help ensure the best performance possible from an engine or machine.
Messenger uses a full graphics information display with transflective
LCD technology. Multiple communication data links can be utilized to
provide real-time performance and operating information while the
vehicle is in use. The information can be displayed in either
multilingual text (even graphical languages) or a graphical format.

Data Link Gauges

and Gauge Controller

Electronics

Proven Reliable in the Real World

This SAE J1939 Data Link system is composed of electronically

controlled analog gauges that combine the accuracy and
dependability of electronics with the simplicity and visual clarity
of conventional analog gauges. The system is designed for plug
and play installation on various applications in many harsh
environments including building, construction, agricultural,
and marine.
The Gauge Controller receives, translates, and resends the J1939
information via a local data link to the appropriate gauge while
providing a single interface to the data link for the gauge system.
The user can mount the controller on the rear of any 3 gauge
or in a separate location if the panel location does not allow
space for the gauge controller and harnessing to be attached.

Electrical Components

Cat Electronics takes great pride in

offering to the world a line of electrical
components that are the most durable on
earth. Our components are developed to
withstand the harshest environments and
theyre tested to do so in our own facilities.
The components operate successfully in
environments ranging from the chill of the
Antarctic to the heat of the Arabian Peninsula.
The electrical component line includes
products such as heavy-duty connectors,
ergonomically designed handles and joysticks,
HID and LED lights, and robust and durable
lines of sensors, solenoids, valves, and switches.

16

Connectors
Proven Reliable in the Real World

The Caterpillar Connector Series is a heavy-duty plastic

electrical connection system for use with inline, bulkhead
and device applications. Applications include wire to wire
and wire to PC applications. The sealing plugs can be
molded into the plug connectors wire seal cover. Bulkhead
connectors are available in multiple sizes along with a
wire dress cover providing wire seal protection from
pressure wash spray.

Control Handles

Electronics
Proven Reliable in the Real World

Operators want their machines to look, feel, drive, and

ride more like their personal vehicles. The Caterpillar line
of Handles, Joysticks, and Shifters has been developed
using highly reliable electronic components to satisfy
that operator requirement.
Column Mounted Shifter

The product line is comprised of the following:

Column Mounted Shifters have a five-million cycle life
expectancy and 2-million cycle speed capability. The reliable
electronic shifters and shuttles for transmission direction
and speed input are data link ready and exhibit excellent
environmental performance.
The Prophet Handle and Electronic Joystick are modularly
designed allowing for application customization while
minimizing development time, cost, and tooling. Both
products have a long life expectancy. The handle and
joystick are ruggedly designed making them more reliable
than other commercially available products and the
serviceable modules reduce customer costs.

Lights

Electronics
Proven Reliable in the Real World

Today, operators demand well-lit work areas using highly

reliable lights for safety and performance. The Caterpillar
Lighting product line satisfies these user requirements
by offering the following:
HID Flood Lights

LED Indicator Lights

LED Signal Lights

High Intensity Discharge (HID) Gas Lights are used for

exterior flood lighting. The color of the light is closer to
sunlight than traditional halogen thus providing an increase
in operator safety. The HID light is more efficient as it can
produce the equivalent of several halogen lights of the
same wattage. The gas tube in HID lights has a life
expectancy of 2000 to 6000 hours.
LED Indicator and Signal Lights are designed implementing
LED technology instead of traditionally used incandescent
lighting. The LED technology extends the life of the light
and emits brilliant color against EMI/RFI. The LED light
also is very cost effective as there is no risk of a filament
breaking in high vibration conditions. LED signal lights
are now available in amber, red, or blue for off-highway
and construction equipment. Life expectancy has been
extended to approximately 25,000 hours, a greater than
25X improvement over traditional incandescent technology.
The light is designed with the lens sonic welded to the
housing for 100% sealing.
Rotating Beacons are the newest in the Caterpillar lighting
family. The rotating beacon is a warning beacon that uses
electronics to emit light using a gas tube. As with our
other lights, the rotating beacon is designed to withstand
high vibration conditions.

Rotating Beacon

Shock Resistant Lights

20

www.catelectronics.com

Shock Resistant Head/Flood Lights are designed for

general flood lighting. The lens and halogen burner are
shock mounted for long-life in high vibration applications
and can be mounted either vertically or suspended. Another
operator benefit to the shock resistant light is that no tools
are required to service the halogen burner.

Rocker Switches

Caterpillars family of switches offers components such as

the Rocker Switch to allow the operator to transfer input,
such as activation of a locking mechanism, to the electronic
control module or component in a cost effective manner.
The Liquid Level Switch allows the operator to detect fluid
levels in various systems.

Liquid Level Switch

The Filter-By-Pass Switch provides information when dirty oil

is by-passed around the filter element and into the system.
The Robust Arm Bar Switch indicates position of the arm bar.

Filter By-Pass Switch

The Relay Switch allows the operator to electronically relay

engine start-up information.
The Electronic Key Switch operates the on-off switch via a
removable key.

Communications
Information technologies from Cat Electronics
are powerful enough to transform the way users
manage their operations. Our communication
solutions provide both single and two-way
communication links. Operators can remotely
control, monitor, or program the engine in
much the same way that an operator does
from the panel inside the vehicle.
The Gateway product line allows the operator
to connect the on-board machine or engine
standard data link with off-board data networks.
The Pocket Tec device is an easy-to-install
and easy-access information product that
plugs into your Palm hand-held organizer to
read and capture engine data in real time.
Data can be saved and downloaded to your
personal computer.

Customer Communication Module

Proven Reliable in the Real World

The Customer Communication Module (CCM)

provides a means to remotely control and
monitor single or multiple packaged generator
sets (PGS) at a common site. By accessing the
CCM from a personal computer or other RS-232C
device, each PGS can be remotely started and
stopped, and engine and generator parameters
can be monitored on a real time basis.

Converts proprietary Cat data link to an

industry standard RS-232C serial data link

Operating Characteristics/Specifications

Up to eight-packaged generator sets can be

linked at a common site

Power Supplies:
One Battery +/- Input (15V - 45V)

Software provided with the CCM can

be used for all control and monitoring
functions available on the EMCPII and
EMCPII+ control panels

Communication:

a host device (Personal Computer or a Programmable
Logic Controller). The operator of the host device is
able to remotely control, monitor, or program the
engine equipped with electronic engine control in much
the same way that an operator does from the panel.
During normal operation, the CCM display shows the
status of the data link, the transmit/receive status of the
RS-232C port, and the status/fault codes.

Operating Characteristics/Specifications

Remote communication

Power Supplies:
Power Source Genset (GSC) Battery
