Roles within the Commercial Services job family are focused on increasing and generating income,
through creativity, branding, innovative business development, and funded projects, in order to
make Eden sustainable, successful and a leading, value-for-money visitor attraction.

Role Purpose
Working within the Strategic Framework, promoting the Eden Project and its activities
through engagement across the media, chiefly national and regional television, radio,
newspapers and magazines and their digital counterparts.

Key Accountabilities
1 Operating within the media relations team, to assist in the devising and
development of high-quality media relations across Edens activities to help generate
awareness with the widest possible national and international audience, in order to
help maintain and grow visitor numbers.
2 Think proactively about up-and-coming projects and campaigns, plan accordingly
and provide ideas to help create publicity.
3 Assists in media monitoring and dissemination of coverage.
4 Lead on arrangements for media visits and where available hosts crews when on
site.
5 Maintain contacts and build up relationships within relevant media and with key
Eden colleagues.

Demands of the Role


Education and
Qualifications

To a minimum of a Foundation Degree level or equivalent in a relevant


subject, for example, PR, Journalism, Media.

Knowledge and Skills

Minimum five years experience in media relations or a closely-related


occupation, an established practitioner with practical skills and good
theoretical knowledge.
Essential to be a clear, quick and accurate writer, with excellent research
skills. Must have a genuine knowledge of and interest in news and what
makes it. Understands the social media environment and reputational
issues associated with it. Knowledge of photography, photo-editing and
film-making is desirable.
Must be willing to develop a sound knowledge of Edens various
operations, including those beyond the destination.

Decision Making

Resourcefulness

Works largely to short term objectives where the impact of decisions


made will be immediately obviously, within this will organise own
workload within the procedures agreed for the team. There will be some
planning ahead based on the Eden calendar and supporting media
requirements.
Operates within the strategic plan, working to annual objectives.
Needs to show sound judgment.
Reactive problem solving is a routine feature of the role where adaptive
and creative solutions rely upon existing knowledge, skills and
experience in the PR/media environment.
This is a demanding role requiring the holder to possess stamina, mental
dexterity, sensitivity, and the ability to adapt quickly to rapidly changing
circumstances and briefs. Also requires the ability to forward plan.
Creativity is an essential quality.

People and Asset


Management

This is not a line management role. However, there are management


skills required, such as looking after media crews when on site. Shares
responsibility for equipment and data within the team.

Communication and
Visitor Experience

This role demands first-class written and verbal communication skills as


well as sound judgment and discretion. They will use an extensive range
of communication and interpersonal skills to achieve this.

Operational Environment

Additional Features

Needs to devise, explain and exchange a range of information verbally


and in writing in a quick and accurate manner, changing style as
necessary to adapt to the audience they are dealing with.
Mainly office and site based with occasional travel when meeting the
media. Must be able to work some irregular hours.
Stamina and a positive attitude are essentials.
