The Pet Shop Boys: In 1981, two young men from the north of England met in a music shop in the Kings Road in London and
decided to star writing songs together. By 1983, they had a name, two or three songs and not much else. It was in America that they
recorded their first song, called West End Girls. This was an instant No.1 hit when it was released in Britain in 1985. From that
moment the Pet Shop Boys were on the way to world wide success.
They are popular with the fans of the Beatles and Rolling Stones of the 60s as well as the club-going children of the 90s.
And what about their strange name? Well, back in the 80s they had friends who worked in a pet shop in London, and well, thats
it, really: I thought it was a stupid name, says Lowe. But they were your friends! says Tennant.

Dear Maria,
At last! We have finished all our exams. The last one was yesterday. It was History. It was horrible. I think History is really difficult
because I cant remember all the facts and the dates.
So this is the end of Year 10, my fourth year at secondary school. I did seven subjects. The worst were Science and History. I found
them very difficult. I have already forgotten most of the things we learned.
The best subject this year was Geography, but we only had it twice a week. Our Geography teacher, Mr Gilmore, is great. We did
some proyects with him about different countries. Id like to be a pilot, then I could travel and see all those places.
We arent going abroad this summer because two months ago my dad lost his job. So he hasnt got much money, and we cant afford a
big holiday. ()
