Difference between Ethics and Morality

Ethics V/S Morality
Ethics:
Ethics is derived from Greek word ethos which means
character. It involves a discipline which examines good or bad
practices within the context of moral duty. In the organisations
employees has to follow business ethics which includes practices in
behaviour that are good and ethical. Ethics refers to rules provided
by external sources such as code of conduct in work place or
principles and values in religions.
Ethics are governed by professional and legal guidelines
within a particular time and place. The aim of ethical value is to live
together with happiness in harmony and social justice with human
dignity. The reason why ethical problem occur in organization are
people looking for personal gain and individual values widely differ
with organisational goals, manager values and attitudes,
competitive pressures and cross cultural contradictions.
Morality:
Morality is derived from Latin word mos which means
custom which transcends cultural norms. Morals are culturally and
religiously based on right or wrong. Morality has religious
connotation. Morality comes from an individual which is usually
consistent, although can change if an individuals beliefs change. A

moral person bound by a higher values may choose to follow the
code of ethics as it would apply to a system.
Some moral values are Honesty, Truthfulness, Patience,
Respectfulness, courage, justice, affection towards humanity etc.,
the moral values are the standard of good and evil which governs
individuals behaviour and choices.
Examples for Ethics and Morality
Examples of ethical behaviour ethical behaviour is self-regarding
behaviour that affects positively the world around us. It is the
behaviour that contributes positively to our well-being, the
preservation of the environment and the well-being of others.
. Charity
. Conservationism
. Respectful, egalitarian, empathic or good-intentioned social
behaviour.
. Loving, caring or friendly behaviour.
. Responsible consumption (e.g. non-wasteful, recycling, fair trade,
sustainable, ethical production, etc.
Examples of moral imperatives moral behaviour is self-regarding
behaviour influenced by moral imperatives, and moral imperatives
are rules of conduct that serve as a guide to what we should or
ought to do; what is our duty or responsibility; or what is the
virtuous or best way of life.

* Live according to the rules of State and society
* Do to others what you would have other do onto you (or
alternatively, dont do to others what you wouldnt have others do
onto you). Act in such a way, that the maxim of your will could
always hold as a principle of universal order.
