3 easy steps to choosing your Level One Diploma Course

Step 1

The First Level Diploma consists of seven Core Modules and Specialist Modules.
The Core Modules are compulsory and are to be studied by all students.

Choose the course you would


like to study:

First decide which diploma you are going to study. Review the Specialist Modules
in that section and choose the specialist modules that you wish to study. Indicate
your choices on the application form.
All modules contain a Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA) which is a compulsory element
for obtaining a Diploma or Certificate. The TMAs are an important part of the course
as they provide the student and the tutor with a progress marker during the course.
They also count towards a maximum of 30% of a Diploma candidates total mark with
the remaining 70% being awarded for the examination.

Every effort will be made by the organisers to send the modules
out monthly but due to unforeseen circumstances the organisers
cannot be held liable for any delays.

Core Modules

There will be two tutorial seminars each year. They are not compulsory
but are beneficial and are an excellent opportunity to meet fellow
candidates and tutors.

Tutors

The seven compulsory core module subjects provide the basic


knowledge for the whole course.

To support you during your studies the tutors are available to help
with any problems or technical questions. Contact details will be
given to you on commencement of the course.

Specialist Modules

Administration

There are many specialist modules to choose from which allow


for key areas of interest. Four of these specialist modules must be
studied to be awarded a Diploma. Additional specialist modules in
blocks of four may be taken up to a maximum of eight specialist
modules in any one exam period.

Study Time
Core and Specialist Modules

The course lasts for approximately 12 months commencing 1st


October of each year with the mailing of the first core module.

We recommend 10 to 30 hours study time for each module,


with additional time being set aside for completing the Tutormarked Assignments.

Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMA)

Entry Criteria (one or more of the following)

One with each module. They are a compulsory element of the


course and must be completed prior to the exam.

Self-assessed Questions
Some modules contain self-assessment questions, designed to help
candidates consolidate their knowledge. Answers are provided for
these questions.

The Examination
Exam Date

HSC standard or equivalent (high school)


Five years plus of relevant experience
Minimum Class Two Certificate of Competency
Candidates with no formal qualifications but who can
demonstrate a number of years relevant industry experience are
welcome to apply
These are a guideline only as all applicants will be vetted by the
Course Director who holds the final discretion on acceptance.

Language of the Course

November and April of each year dates to be advised.

The course will be conducted entirely in English.

Exam Length
Two examinations: one core module examination of one hour;
specialist module examination of two hours. Both examinations
take place on the same day with a fifteen-minute break between.
Both are open-book examinations.

The Marking Structure


T
 utor-marked Assignments: Constitutes 30% of the final mark
Core Module Examination: Constitutes 22% of the final mark
Specialist Module Examination: Constitutes 48% of the final
mark
Pass Mark: 75% for each examination
The overall pass mark for the Diploma including TMA marks is 75%.

Presentation
Each module will be presented in a bound, printed format and is
designed to be self-contained. However, we highly recommend
that candidates make every effort to increase their knowledge by
reference to other sources.

Cancellation Policy
Terms
T o be received in writing before the start date of the course and
will receive a full refund less an administrative charge of $1000.

Exceptions
Cancellations made after the start date of the course will only
be considered in exceptional circumstances and will be at the
discretion of the Course Director.
The content of the course is subject to change at the discretion
of the Course Programme Manager.
