We have begun registering new and returning

students in the Ministry Center during office hours.
Children registering for the first time MUST bring a
baptismal certificate.

My dear brothers and sisters,

I am entering my third year here at St. Columba. For the
past years, I purposely stopped writing this Pastor's
Corner because I needed to situate myself in my new
assignment. I needed to listen more. So I did a lot of
consulting. If you recall, we did a survey and asked
ourselves what we are, what we are not, what we have or
what we have not as a parish. I thank you for your
participation. We consolidated your responses and are
now ready for implementation.
Moving forward however, we need to know where we
want to go, what we want to become and what each of us
can contribute to achieve our goal. So I would like to
invite everyone to join me in revisiting our VisionMission statements.
VISION Statement
St. Columba, The Roman Catholic Parish of Serra Mesa
in San Diego, California, is a community of loving,
faithful and welcoming people dedicated to following the
teachings of Jesus Christ, united and growing in faith
and loving service.
MISSION Statement
With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the assistance of
our pastor and church leaders, we, the parishioners of St.
Columba, embrace our mission to spread and live the
word of God by following the footsteps of Jesus Christ
and helping everyone to know the way to salvation
through meaningful worship, catechism, charitable
actions, effective evangelization, and through embracing
Stewardship as a way of life, leading to an increase in
faith, hope and love.
In the following weeks or months, I will focus my articles
on our Vision/Mission statements viz-a-viz our present
state of our parish. Our shared honest awareness and
understanding of our parish is a good start towards
accomplishing our shared vision for St. Columba Parish
through the consolidated and coordinated efforts of
everyone.

Day of Prayer
Bishop McElroy will preside at a special prayer
service in observance of the National Day of Prayer
for Peace in Our Communities called for by the
National Conference of Catholic Bishop in light of
the recent incidents of violence and racial tension
in communities across the United States.
The service will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday,
September 9, the Feast of St. Peter Claver, at St.
Joseph Cathedral, 1535 Third Avenue, San Diego
92101. Everyone is welcome to attend.

St. Columba Catholic Elementary School is now
registering Grades K-8 for the 2016/2017 school year.

Louisiana Flood Response

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has
called for an emergency collection to support the
humanitarian efforts of Catholic Charities USA and to
provide pastoral and rebuilding support to impacted
Catholic dioceses. Everyone is encouraged to join the
Church in being a visible witness to the healing presence
of Jesus alive in the world though this collection.
We will take up this collection next weekend, Sep. 1011. There are no special envelopes; please indicate on
your donation envelopes and checks: Louisiana Flood.

Crafters Village
The St. Columba Fall Festival is right around the corner,
and we're looking for crafters and local businesses to sell
in our Craft Village on October 15th and 16th. Since the
Fall Festival is right before the holidays, it's the perfect
way for families to stock up on gift items.
Space rental fee for the weekend is $100 OR $50 with a
Gift Basket Donation (valued at $50 - to be included in
our Spring Gala or Golf Tournament silent auctions).
This includes the space; however you will need to
provide your own table/set up.
