Prior Knowledge: -Use basic weather expressions learnt in Grade 7
-Knowledge of the months of the year in the target language
-Identify familiar articles of clothing in the target language
Lesson Objectives: At the end of the lesson students should be able to:
Describe basic weather conditions using the appropriate expressions
after participating in an Interactive PowerPoint Activity
State what the weather condition is like during the different months
Name the seasons in Spanish after viewing a PowerPoint
Describe the weather condition experienced in each season
Appreciate the various weather conditions
Create simple short term weather forecast in the target language.
Content:
Grammar: The use of the verb HACER to ask and state the weather conditions.
Eg: Q: Qu tiempo hace?What is the weather like? R: Hace viento- It is windy
The verb ESTAR is used to state the weather conditions.
Eg; Esta lloviendo. It is raining.
Vocabulary
Hace sol- It is sunny

Hace viento- It is windy

Hace frio- It is cold

Differentiation strategies to meet diverse learner needs:
Engagement: 1. The teacher will enter the classroom expressing that the weather is hot/he or she
is feeling hot then ask the students whether or not they share the same
opinion/feeling.
2. The students will be engaged in an Interactive PowerPoint Activity in which
they will match the correct weather expressions in Spanish to the correct
picture which depicts the type of weather and will sing say the months of the
year in Spanish.
These activities will review the weather conditions and months of the year.
Exploration: The students will describe what the weather condition is like in Jamaica during the
months of the year.

Explanation: The students will view and listen to a weather forecast for today and tomorrow for
Montego Bay and Santa Cruz and will tell the differences between the forecasts
given and also explain.
Elaboration: The students will view pictures depicting the different seasons and will be required
to state the correct season in the mother tongue.
The students will be engaged in a discussion about what the weather condition is
like in the different seasons and the.
The students will form groups of four in which they will view the map of central
America and the Caribbean. Each group will be given a country and will then
state orally in Spanish the weather condition experienced based on the weather
symbol.

Evaluation:
P1: In groups of fours the students will write a short weather forecast of at least five places and
also describe the weather condition of any of the four seasons in Jamaica. This will be presented
to the class.
P 2: In groups of four students will draw signs of at least three weather conditions and will write
a sentence for each stating the weather condition.
P 3: In groups of four the students will make a weather chart depicting the various weather
conditions and seasons.
Homework: Research the other weather conditions in Spanish that Jamaica experiences and the
items of clothing worn when these conditions are experienced.
