Exercise 4: Before you play the recording, give Ss time to read through the
forms to see what missing information they need to listen for. Reassure Ss that
they do not need to understand everything the speakers say to complete the
forms. Elicit answers.
Exercise 5: Give Ss time to read through the sentences before you play the
recording again. Elicit answers.
Exercise 6: Ss continue to No Limits and check the meaning of the Key Words
in the Picture Dictionary. (Exercise 1, p.16.)
Exercise 7: Ss read and listen to the article and match the people with the
photo. Explain or encourage Ss to guess the meaning of any new words in the
text. (Exercise 2, p.16.)
Exercise 8: Ss copy and complete the table with can or cant. After checking
answers, ask Ss to read the texts again and find two more examples of can in
affirmative sentences, two more examples of cant in negative sentences and
one example of a question and short answer. (Exercise 4, p.16.). Check Ss
understand that the strong pronunciation of can is used in short positive
answers and at the beginning of questions.
