my contact information:
Name: Paul Ziebell
Email: ziebellp@wmlcps.org
Phone: (school number) 804-493-9818 (room 402)
supply list: (If locating any of these supplies is an issue I will
provide them for you)
1 pair of scissors
paper
Pencils
1 ruler
1 pack of notecards
2 binders at least 1.5 inches each (one for the end of the year
review)
1 pack of colored pencils or crayons or markers
1 highlighter
Grading: I will be using a point system to assess student
learning. Each homework assignment will be worth 2 points, each
quiz worth 25 points, and each test 50 points. There will be
classwork grades and participation grades given throughout the
year and those point values will change depending on the
assignment, but will mostly be in the 5-20 point range. The total
amount of points for the quarter will vary.
Rules and procudures: All school rules will be enforced in the
classroom. There will be an emphasis on respect, responsibility,
and having a quality learning environment. For details on the
specific school rules and consequences please see the student
handbook. Repeat infractions will result in increasingly severe
consequences. Specific procedures for the classroom will be gone
over in class.
Homework: There will be homework on Tuesday and Thursdays.
All homework will be graded on effort, not accuracy, and will
have eight problems. As long as the student has put in 20
minutes of effort, then that is fine even if it is not done.

Quizzes and Tests: There will be an assessment given

weekly, test or quiz.
Calculator use: Calculators will be provided and unless noted
the use of calculators is acceptable. The only skills that are
required without the use of a calculator are comparing, adding,
multiplying, dividing, and subtracting fractions and mixed
numbers, and all orders of operations problems.
Retakes: I allow retakes, please take advantage of this policy. It
will help you master the material as well as improve your grade. I
will take the highest grade achieved on the assignment with no
penalty for the retake. Retakes will occur Mondays afterschool or
if that is not an option, during lunch or morning homeroom, a little
bit at a time.
Late assignments: NOT ACCEPTED, I am trying to build a
teaching environment that practices life skills such as
responsibility; the lesson of meeting a deadline is more important
to me than the grade. (There is an exception for excused
absences). Keep in mind that I allow retakes on all tests
and quizzes for any reason.
Topics to be covered: We will be focusing on computing
fractions and mixed numbers, decimals, percents, graphing
inequalities as well as points on a coordinate plane, one step word
problems as well as one step equations, ratios, interpreting and
creating circle, line, and bar graphs, exponents, perfect squares,
integers, quadrilaterals, mean, median, mode, metric and U.S.
customary measurement, and sequencing.
