1. GENERAL
1.1
Scope
This job specification shall be used to support the engineering, manufacturing and supplying
of Capacitor bank for the south YARAN Project.
2. Applicable Documents

4. Overview
4.1
Introduction
South Yaran oil field is located in Khuzestan province 120KM west of Ahwaz with 20Km
length and 2.5Km width at south part of Yaran oil field.
24 No wells considered at this area consisting of 14 No Sarvak wells, 8 No Fahlian &
Gadvan wells and 2 No appraisal wells for sarvak and fahlian&Gadvan layers with total
estimated output between 50,000 to 60,000 STB/Day.
Flow of wells is transferred to the 2 phase separation unit (Cluster) for separation of gas
from liquids and dehydrating of gas.
The dehydrated gas is transferred to NGL 3200 and the liquids are transferred to Karoon
production plant for further processing.

8. General
8.1
Equipment shall be supplied in accordance with the single line diagrams and data sheets. All
equipment shall be rated for continuous operation at full load service. The rating (voltage,
current, frequency, fault current, etc.) shall be as stated on the single line diagrams/data
sheets. Short time current rating as well as making and breaking capacity shall be certified
by a recognised independent testing authority.
Equipment shall be suitable for operation, without deteriorating effect, with variations of
voltage and frequency as follows:

Transient voltage depressions down to 80% of rated voltage shall not affect performance of
the equipment.
8.2
Environmental Data
Extent of Supply
Extent of supply shall consist of the design, production of material, fabrication, manufacture,
drawings and data, assembly, painting, testing and all sub-supplier co-ordination.
All instructions for assembly, disassembly maintenance, placing in service, operation, etc.,
shall also be furnished.
9. Application
9.1 Each capacitor bank assembly shall consist of a metal-clad, free floor standing, vertical,
front access, dead-front steel structures, containing power buses, a ground bus, power
circuit breakers/fuses/contactors, capacitor banks with built-in fuses, series reactor, auxiliary
control devices, instrument transformers (CTs/VTs), relays, meters, meter switches, control
switches, indicating lights and other necessary components.
The enclosure, buses, fused contactors, secondary wiring, cable terminations, instrument
transformers and transducers shall be in accordance with relevant clauses of Specification

of the combined capacitor plus reactor shall be equal to the required kVAR indicated in data
sheet. More over the voltage rating of the capacitor shall be increased proportional to reactor
voltage.
Enclosure
10.1.1 The capacitor bank shall be metal enclosed self-supporting, free standing, floor
mounted made of sheet steel, containing power buses, ground bus, circuit breakers, fuses,
contactors, capacitor units, reactors, auxiliary control devices, instrument transformers,
relays, meters, switches, indicating lights and other necessary components.
10.1.2. The enclosure, buses, fused contactors, Circuit breaker, secondary wiring, cable
terminations, instrument transformers and transducers shall be in accordance with relevant
clauses of Specification For LV Switchgear and MCC (SYME-ELBASC-ENEL-SPMC-0002)
& Specification For MV Switchgear and MCC (SYME-ELBASC-ENEL-SPMC-0001).
10.1.3 The enclosure shall be suitably subdivided into separate compartments, such as
power entrance compartment, capacitor compartment and when required switching
compartment. The internal partitions shall be metallic and shall be earthed.
The capacitor compartment shall be properly ventilated. When forced ventilation is required,
thermostatically controlled fans shall be supplied.
10.1.4 Doors of the enclosures shall be equipped with proper danger and warning sign.
10.2
Capacitor Units
10.2.1 Low voltage capacitors shall be of the self-healing type and shall comply with the
requirements of IEC 60831 and may be of either three phases or single phase construction
Medium voltage and high voltage capacitors shall comply with the requirements of IEC
60871.
10.2.2 Capacitor units may consist of one or more capacitor elements. The electrodes and
dielectric materials of the capacitor elements shall be indicated in data sheet.
10.2.3 Each capacitor unit shall be enclosed in a sealed case. The case of medium voltage
and high voltage capacitor unit shall be welded steel.
10.2.4 The insulating medium of low voltage capacitor units shall be according to IEC
recommendation and shall be indicated in data sheet. Dry type air insulated capacitor is
acceptable for low voltage application. The insulating medium shall be suitable for the
maximum ambient temperature or room temperature indicated in data sheet.
10.2.5. The leads of each capacitor unit shall be brought out through sealed connectors or
bushings made of high quality resin or porcelain. The complete assembly shall be a sealed
unit.
10.2.6 Medium and high voltage capacitor units shall be oil filled. The units shall not contain
polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB). The supplier shall indicate the insulating medium of the
capacitor units in data sheet.

10.2.7 Suitable means shall be provided on the metal case of each capacitor unit for
connecting the metal case to ground.
10.2.8 The leads of each capacitor unit shall be brought out through sealed connectors or
bushings made of high quality resin or porcelain. The complete assembly shall be a sealed
unit.
10.2.9 The insulating medium of low voltage capacitor units shall be according to IEC
recommendation and shall be indicated in data sheet. Dry type air insulated capacitor is
acceptable for low voltage application. The insulating medium shall be suitable for the
maximum ambient temperature or room temperature indicated in data sheet.
10.3
Internal Fuses
10.3.1 Internal fuses shall be provided to effectively remove a capacitor unit from the circuit
in case of capacitor unit failure. Operation of a capacitor fuse shall be indicated by a suitable
visible means.
10.3.2 For low voltage capacitor units, internal over pressure disconnectors can be
supplied instead of fuses
10.3.3 Internal fuses shall comply with IEC 60871-4.
10.4
Discharge Resistor
10.4.1 Low voltage capacitor unit shall be provided with a discharge resistor to discharge the
stored energy of the capacitor and reduce the voltage of the unit from the peak voltage (2
times the rated voltage) to 75 volt or less in 3 minutes after disconnection. The method of
connection of the resistors to capacitor units shall be according to IEC 60831-1 with a K
factor of 1.
10.4.2 Medium voltage and high voltage capacitor unit shall be provided with a discharge
resistor to discharge the stored energy of the capacitor and reduce the voltage from the
peak voltage (2 times the rated voltage) to 75 volt or less in 10 minutes after disconnection.
10.4.3 There shall be no fuse, switch or any other disconnecting device between the
capacitor unit and the discharge resistors.
10.4.4 The resistance of the discharge resistors shall be calculated according to the
formulas given in IEC 60871-1. The supplier shall indicate in data sheet, the size of
discharge resistors in ohm.
10.4.5 In order to meet the requirements of paragraph 10.4 additional discharge resistors or
reactors may be installed at the capacitor contactors or at the power supply switching device
located in the station switch room. Such scheme shall be approved by Company.
10.4.6 The supplier of the capacitor bank may propose, as an option, the application of
discharge reactors instead of discharge resistors for each capacitor unit.

10.5.1 On the capacitor enclosure, a load break switch shall be provided for grounding
(earthing) capacitors. The operating handle of this grounding switch shall be outside the
enclosure. The grounding switch shall be closed after the elapse of the times specified in
paragraph 10.4
10.5.2 For medium voltage and high voltage capacitor banks, a grounding switch safety
relay shall be included when necessary to prohibit the operation of the grounding switch
before the elapse of the above mentioned time.
10.5.3 The grounding switch, when in closed or ground position shall short circuit and
ground the capacitor leads and discharge the remaining energy left on the capacitors. This
switch shall be key interlocked with the power supply switching device located in the station
switch room.
10.5.4 It shall not be possible to close the grounding switch before opening the power
supply switching device and the power supply switching device may only be closed after the
grounding switch is opened.
10.6
Safety Requirement
10.6.1 Safety interlocks shall be provided between the power supply switching device
located in the station switch room and the grounding switch specified in clause 10.5
10.6.2 The power supply switching device shall be opened and locked in open position
before operating the handle of the grounding switch.
10.6.3 The grounding switch shall be closed and locked in grounding position before
opening the door of the capacitor compartments.
10.6.4 The interlock system and the type and location of the grounding switch shall be
approved by Company.
10.6.5 The purchaser will provide the interlock elements in the form of electrical interlock
and/or key interlock.
10.7
Marking
10.7.1 The information outlined in IEC 60871-1 shall be marked on each capacitor unit
either directly or on a rating plate attached to each unit.
10.7.2 Each capacitor bank shall have a rating plate. At lease the information outlined in
IEC 60871-1 shall be engraved or indelibly marked on such rating plate.

13. Miscellaneous
13.1
Earthing
An earthing bus bar shall be provided along the full length of the capacitor cubicle structure
with the provision for the earth cable connections at each end. Earthing bus bars shall be
made of hard drawn copper.
Earthing facilities shall be provided as per relevant clauses of Specification For LV
Switchgear and MCC (SYME-ELBASC-ENEL-SPMC-0002) & Specification For MV
Switchgear and MCC (SYME-ELBASC-ENEL-SPMC-0001).
13.2
Anti-Condensation Heating
Special tools and accessories shall be proved as per relevant clauses of Specification For
LV Switchgear and MCC (SYME-ELBASC-ENEL-SPMC-0002) & Specification For MV
Switchgear and MCC (SYME-ELBASC-ENEL-SPMC-0001).

Unless otherwise indicated in data sheet, switchgear shall be painted light grey, BS 381C,
No. 361 (IPS-E-TP-100).
The complete interior surface of the enclosure shall have a find coat of moisture and fungus
resistant vanishes.
All fasteners, bolts, etc., shall be protected against oxidation by a coating appropriate to the
type of metal.
VENDOR shall supply paint, matching each color used, for filed touch-up after installation
of equipment. Two spray cans of each color shall be supplied per assembly.
General
All equipment covered by this specification shall be subjected to inspection and testing
witnessed by the COMPANY at the works during manufacture. In certain cases these
activities may extend to sub-suppliers.
Inspection and testing shall be in accordance with IEC standards.
The equipment under this specification shall be factory tested. Certified copies of test reports
and certificates shall be submitted to the Purchaser.
14.2
Routine Tests
Routine test shall be performed according to the requirements of IEC 60871-1 and the
relevant IEC publications referred to therein.

Ionization test
Other Tests
In addition each capacitor bank shall be subject to any such tests on site as are required to
prove compliance with the specification independently of any tests which may have already
been carried out at the manufacturers works.
These tests shall normally include:
Measurement of the capacitance of each capacitor equipment
Measurement of the out of balance signal and adjustment of fuse failure
detecting equipment
An examination of the voltage wave form without and with the capacitor
banks connected.

14.5
Field Tests
Field tests shall be carried out before power capacitor banks are energised and/ or placed in
service and shall include but limited to:
Insulation check
Primary injection and adjustment of all protective devices
Interlock and inter-trip function
Earthing device interlock preventing closing of earthing device while
capacitor is energized
Phase rotation
PDCS interface functions
Check of earthing circuits (effective and continuous connection).
Interconnection and cabling check between cubicles
Power frequency dielectric withstand
Full functional check of each unit
Resistance test measurements across all busbar connections, circuit
breakers and incomer/outgoing copper-work
Voltage transformer ratio and phasing checks
Current transformer ratio and polarity checks
Verification of current transformer magnetization curves for main incomer
and feeder protection current transformers.
Secondary injection tests for all protection relays to prove time/current
characteristics (minimum of 3 points)
Injection of all feeder earth leakage relays
Primary injection of all indicating instruments
Mechanical operation of all circuit breakers and contactors
Visual examination (appearance, paintwork, finish, welding, sheet metal,
lifting rings, assembly bolt tightness, busbar tightness, conformity of
torque tightness for main connections, wiring and internal cabling

General
Capacitor bank assemblies shall be handled according to relevant clauses of Specification For
LV Switchgear and MCC (SYME-ELBASC-ENEL-SPMC-0002) & Specification For MV
Switchgear and MCC (SYME-ELBASC-ENEL-SPMC-0001).
15.2
The vendor shall supply the necessary information with the quotation to enable evaluation of the
submitted proposal.
documents/drawings are not acceptable unless they are revised to show the equipment
proposed.
The documents to be supplied with the quotation shall at least include the following:
a) Completed enquiry data sheet/s
b) Summary of exceptions/deviations to this standard specification.
c) Brochures and catalogues containing description of typical capacitor banks.
d) Preliminary dimensional drawings
e) Type of packaging and approximate shipping weights.
The documents which shall be supplied at ordering stage, shall at least include the following:
a) Updated and completed enquiry data sheet/s.
b) Drawings showing main dimensions and arrangement of components.
c) Wiring diagrams of all accessories, or devices.
d) List of components or accessories, showing complete reordering information for all
replaceable parts.
e) Installation, operation and maintenance instruction/s.
f) Recommended spare parts list for two years of operation.
g) Test reports and/ or certificates for routine tests, type tests and special tests.
15.3
SHIPMENT
15.3.1 The supplier of the equipment under this specification is the sole responsible for
packaging and preparation for shipment.
15.3.2 The packaging and preparation for shipment shall be adequate to avoid mechanical

containing necessary information together with the capacitor identification number indicated in
data sheet .
15.3.4 Shipping documents with exact description of equipment for custom release shall be
supplied, with the equipment.

16. Guarantee
16.1 The supplier of the equipment under this specification shall guarantee the equipment and
shall replace any damaged equipment/parts resulting from poor workmanship and/or faulty
design.
16.2 The supplier shall replace any equipment/part failed under the following condition:
- Failure under startup and commissioning tests performed according to IEC recommendations.
- Failure under normal usage for a period of 12 months, not exceeding 18 months from the date
of dispatch from the manufacturers works.
