Assessment Purpose:
To provide students with the opportunity to become familiar with the theory and
practical application of a business plan in the planning, establishment, managing and
maintenance of the business.
Students develop and demonstrate the following learning requirements:
1. Understand the nature, role, and structure of business and enterprise, locally
and/or nationally
2. Demonstrate knowledge of the functions, processes, and operations of business
and enterprise
3. Communicate in ways that are suitable for the business environment and for
the purpose and audience, including by the use of appropriate information and
communication techniques.
4. Apply revenant business ideas, practices, and concepts such as business
planning, product development, financial management, and marketing.

Knowledge and Understanding


Understanding of the nature and role of business and enterprise.
Understanding and explanation of business structures, including those of small business in a global
environment.
Knowledge and understanding of the relationship between business theory and practice.

Analysis of the economic, social, environmental, and ethical implications and consequences of business
and enterprise practice.
Communication
Communication of information and ideas about business and enterprise to suit the purpose and
audience.
Use of conventions, vocabulary, and terminology appropriate to business and enterprise.
Appropriate acknowledgment of sources.
Application
Use of technology that meets current business standards.
Application of knowledge and understanding of relevant business ideas, concepts, and practices.
Selection and use of relevant information from different sources.

Task Description:
Students to individually create a business plan for the business enterprise that they ran at
school, if students did not participate in mini enterprise, students are to create a business
plan for a hypothetical business.
At a minimum students should include the following key elements:
Title Page:
Name of business, address, contact points, date of preparation
Table of contents:
Clear information about the contents of your plan, page numbering
Executive Summary:
Purpose of the plan, highlights of the plan, Brief description of your business
About the business:
What is your business, general description, what is your competitive advantage, where
is your business located and why, what is the performance of your business today?

Objectives and strategies


Aims of business (business mission), the needs your business will seek to satisfy
Management team
Who are the people involved in your business, what are their roles, responsibilities and
background, do they have any skills or formal qualifications, who are your advisors.
Market analysis and strategies
Description of the marketplace
Past, present and future trends
Size of market
Demographics
Customer groups, their characteriscs and buying habits
Assessment of competition, strengths and weaknesses
Marketing Plan
Target market
Marketing strategy
Marketing image you are seeking to project for your business
How your product will be distributed
How will you advertise and promote your product or service
How will you set the price for your product?
