Adriver'slicenseisalegaldocumentissuedbythestate.Itexpressesapersonscapabilitytooperatea
motorizedvehicle,suchasamotorcycle,car,truckorabus,onapublicroadway.Lawsrelatingtothe
issuanceoflicensesvarybetweenjurisdictions.Nopersonshalldriveamotorvehicleinanypublic
placeunlessheholdsaneffectiveDrivingLicenseissuedbyalicensingAuthorityauthorizinghimto
drivevehicleofthatparticularcategory.
Drivingavehiclewithoutaproperlicensecanleadtoimposingoffinesorimprisonmentifcaughtred
handed,henceitisalwayssafertokeepyourdrivinglicensealongwithyouingoodcondition.
DuplicateDrivingLicense
Aduplicatedrivinglicenseisnothingbutafreshdrivinglicenseissuedontherequestofthecardholder
statingthattheoriginallicenseisbeenstolen,lostorisbeendamaged.Itwillhavethesamevalidityand
featuresasofyourold/originaldrivinglicense.Thelicenseholderwillhavetoproveinfrontofthe
concernedauthoritiesthattheoriginallicenseisstolen,lostorisdamagedtobeeligibletogetanew
license.

Instructions
Onecanapplyforaduplicatedrivinglicensewiththeconcernedauthoritieswhenhe/shehaslostthe
originaldrivinglicense,whenthelicenseisbeentorn,mutilatedordestroyedorwhenitisbeenstolen
away.Youshouldneverapplyforaduplicatedrivinglicensewhenyouhavetheoriginalonewithyouin
goodconditionasitisillegaltodoso.
IssuanceofdrivinglicencesisaservicethatisextendedbytheTransportDepartmentthroughitsDistrict
TransportOffices.
Theholderofthedrivinglicensewillhavetoapplyforaduplicatedrivinglicense.He/shewillhaveto
bepresentinpersonattheRegionalTransportOffice(RTO)orattheunitofficetoapplyforthesame.It
ismandatorytocarryyourIDproofalongwithyou.AtleastoneoftheIDproofshouldhaveyourphoto
init.Nooneelseonyourbehalfcanapplyforaduplicatedrivinglicense.
Itisalwaysadvisedtoapplyforaduplicatedrivinglicenseimmediatelyyouroriginalisbeenlostor
damaged.Ifyouexceedatimeperiodofsixmonthsfromthedateoflosingyourlicense,thenissuance
ofaduplicatelicenseinyourcasewillhavetobeapprovedbytheHeadQuarterofTransport
Department.

YouhavetoapplyforaduplicatedrivinglicenseinpersonattheRegionalTransportOffice
(RTO)orattheunitoffice.
Submittherequireddocumentsandpaythenecessaryfees.
Youmaygetyourduplicatedrivinglicensewithinatimeperiodof1weekto15daysfrom
applicationdateorwithinthetimementionedbytheassistantroadtransportofficer.Onceyou
havesubmittedthedocumentstheconcerneddepartmentwillscrutinyitandwillissuetheorderto
makeaduplicatedrivinglicense.Attimesyoumaybeaskedtogiveadrivingtestorasignaltest.

Thepersonwhohaslostthedrivinglicensewillhavetogoinpersonandpresentthefollowing
documentstotheconcernedauthoritiesfortheissuanceofaduplicatelicense.
Filluptheapplicationformrelatingtothelossordamageofdrivinglicense.Theformisnamedas
L.L.D.Ihaveattachedherewithacopyoftheform(referbelow)foryourkindperusal.
ThreePassportsizephotographsofthepersonhastobeproduced.
Aphotocopyofyourolddrivinglicenseorthedetailsofit.Youwillberequestedtofillupyour
drivinglicensenumberintheFormL.L.D.
ApolicecertificateoracopyoftheFIRreporthastobesubmittedifyourdrivinglicenseisstolen.
Theoriginallicenseistobesurrenderediftheduplicatelicenseisappliedforonthebasisof
mutilated,tornordamaged.
ASelfdeclarationcertificate.
AnIDProofwithyourphotoandaresidentialproofisrequired.(Voter'scard,passportetccanbe
usedforthispurpose.)
Note:Allphotocopieswillhavetobeattested.

Fees
TheamountoffeespayabletoobtaintheduplicatedrivinglicensecardRs.15.00(fee)+Rs.50.00
(servicecharge)dependinguponyourresidentialareaandissuingauthority.

Validity
LicencetodriveaNonTransportVehicleisvalidfor20yearsfromthedateofissueoruntiltheholder
attainstheageof50years,whicheverisearlier.Afterthat,theLicenceisrenewedevery5years.
TransportVehicleLicenceisvalidforaperiodof3yearsfromthedateofissueorrenewal.
