PRINCIPALS 2016 2017 MESSAGE

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students:

As we begin the 2016 - 2017 school year, our Bright School mission and vision statements will again guide our
practice.
Mission Statement:
O. T. Bright Elementary School strives to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of
ALL students by implementing a program that differentiates instruction for ALL students.
We believe that it takes a community to educate a child and that with support from ALL
stakeholders, every student can reach his/her maximum potential, successfully meet
future educational goals, and become highly productive citizens.
Vision Statement:
O. T. Bright Elementary School envisions a school climate that promotes mutual respect,
individuality, hard work and lifelong learning for ALL stakeholders. Through the application of
contemporary principles of learning theory and teaching methodology, we fore see that ALL Bright
students will be engaged in rich instructional activities, take ownership for their learning while
gaining access to selective enrollment high schools and will succeed in those high schools and beyond.
Our laser focus this school will be on high-quality instruction, assessment, student voice, parent engagement and
social emotional learning. We ask that you continue to support us in as we strive for excellence with your children.
The current state of our city and the world at large dictates that we promote acceptance and respect of diversity,
conflict resolution and self-awareness. At Bright, we will continue to have restorative conversations with students
but more importantly we will hold ALL students accountable to behave respectfully toward ALL at ALL times.
Again this year, our efforts will focus on promoting a school climate that promotes mutual respect, individuality,
hard work and lifelong learning for ALL stakeholders. Your support in promoting hard work and lifelong learning
will be highly beneficial as we strive for excellence. Encourage your child daily to do his/her best. Schedule a
place and time for your child to do homework, check homework, and communicate often with your childs teacher.
You are your childs first and most important role model. As such, the importance you place on education will
greatly influence the importance your child will place on education.
Parents, as always, we want you to be active participants in your childs education. We are here to work with you
and your child to provide a high-quality curriculum and learning experiences. We will keep you informed through
monthly classroom newsletters, out-calling messages, and monthly LSC and PAC meetings. We want you to feel
welcome at Bright. Working together is essential to the success of our school.
The information attached to this letter is the Bright School Parent/Student Handbook. Please review the
information with your child and contact your childs homeroom teacher with any questions. Please keep this
Handbook handy for easy reference.

In partnership,
Alicia Lewis, Principal Bright Elementary School
