The 2015-2016 school year was
outstanding for the students in the St. Joseph High School production of Cinderella and the
Upton Middle School production of Lion King, Jr.. Both highly well received by the
community.

The St. Joseph Musical Boosters produces musical theatre at Joseph Public Schools supported
entirely by corporate and individual donors and numerous volunteers. This year we need to raise
at least $10,000 in sponsorship funding to cover the production costs of the two musicals, expand
student participation, and to replace some very old technical equipment at Upton Middle School.
We are happy to announce the high school production will be Legally Blonde, The Musical for
November, 2016. Music and lyrics by Laurence OKeefe and Nell Benjamin. This award
winning musical first opened on Broadway in 2007 based in part on the 2001 movie of the same
name and novel by Amanda Brown.
Research has shown that students involved in performing arts have better attendance in school
and vastly higher scholastic achievement scores*. Students are involved in costume creation, set
design/building, marketing & advertising and solicit sponsors. Students create our show logo
through their hand-drawn artwork and the graphic design for posters and programs. Students are
mentored in web design, photography, program project managers, student stage managers, stage
crew, tech support and dressers. Our mentors are retired Whirlpool executives, professionals,
college professors, graphic designers, executives from Johnson-Rauhoff, St. Joseph High School
teachers, and other skilled volunteers.
