What is the PYP?

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring,

knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a
better and more peaceful world through intercultural
understanding and respect.
At FAVE we focus on the 10 Learner Profile Traits and the 6
Transdisciplinary Themes within our Units of Inquiry.
The IB Primary Years Programme, for students aged 3 to 12,
focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer,
both in the classroom and in the world outside.
Renfroe Middle and Decatur High have the MYP for 6th-10th
graders.
Decatur High began offering the Diploma Programme last school
year.
Each term there is a new theme, new central idea, and 3 lines of
inquiry. We connect our learning around these central ideas

Classroom Expectations

Morning Routine: Students come in, unpack, sharpen pencils,

make lunch choice, answer our white board question, begin DGP
and get iPads ready for the day.
Afternoon Routine: students pack up, clean their area, and our
homework checker makes sure all homework is written down.
Students read until they are dismissed.
Discipline System: 3 tickets are earned each day. If a student has
to be spoken to (talking in the hall, in trouble in specials, etc) a
ticket is taken. If all 3 tickets are taken, there will be parent
contact. Tickets are spent every other week at the school store.

Volunteering
Thank you to our parent current room parent volunteers: Tammie Willis,
Joseph Aczel, Nicky Ackerman, and Alisa Aczel! We have lots of
volunteer opportunities available: mystery reader, guest activity
leader, and explorations to just name a few!

Homework

About 40 minutes per night max - this includes 20 minutes of

reading - Reading Log will be part of morning work starting in
Term 2
2-3 math assignments a week
Word Study homework is same each week
Occasionally, if class work is not getting completed in timely
manner, I will ask it be worked on at home. This should not be
included in the 40 minutes as it is technically "make-up" work.

***Homework SHOULD NOT be stressful. If homework is frustrating,

that means the assignment was sent home too early. I try not to send
anything home that I am not 100% confident that the students can
complete on their own***

Assessments

MAP-Three times per year.

Daily reflections, quizzes, tickets out the door (formative)
End of Unit tests (Summative)
Summative Assessment (Unit of Inquiry) A task that
demonstrates understanding of the UOI. Completed at school. 6x
per year
AR/STAR
Guided Reading
Standards Based Grading (1,2, 3, or 4)
