himself, he can choose one of the alternatives given below and the professor also had four
strategies. The student has approximated the probable percent of marks in the following pay off
matrix against various strategies.
The student strategies are showing reasons as

S1 = Due to ill health

S2 = To attend sisters marriage
S3 = Went on project work
S4 = Attend inter college celebrations

The professors strategies are

P1 = Not giving attendance

UNIT-V
1.Patients arrive at a clinic according to a Poission distribution at the rate of 30 patients per hour.
The waiting room does not accommodate more than 14 patients. Examination time per
patient is exponential with mean rate 20 per hour?
i). Find the effective arrival rate at the clinic?
ii). What is the probability that an arriving patient will not wait?
iii). What is the expected waiting time until a patient is discharged from the clinic?

2.A firm is engaged in both shipping and receiving activities. The management is always
interested in improving the efficiency by new innovations in loading and unloading
procedures. The arrival distribution of trucks is found to be poission with arrival rate of two
trucks per hour. The service time distribution is exponential with unloading rate of three
trucks per hour. Find the following
i). Average number of trucks in the waiting line.
ii). The average waiting time of trucks in line.
iii). The probability that the loading and unloading dock and workers will be idle.
iv). What reduction in waiting time are possible if loading and unloading is standardized?

3. In a car garage A, it takes 15 minutes to wash one car. Cars arrive to the garage at an average
rate of one every 25 minutes and arrival process is poisson. In car garage B, it takes 25
minutes to wash one car and cars arrive to this shop at an average rate of one every 45
minutes, the arrival process being poission during steady state.
Determine (i). At which garage you expect the bigger queue
(ii). At which garage you require more times waiting including the service time?
4.If for a period of 2 hours in a day (8-10 AM) planes arrive at the aerodrome for every 20 minutes
but the service time continuous to remain 32 minutes, then calculate for this period
i). The probability that the aerodrome is empty
ii). Average queue length, on the assumption that the line capacity of the aerodrome is
limited to 6 planes.
UNIT-VI
1. An engineering firm has determined from the analysis of past accounting and production data
that part number 607 has ordering cost of Rs. 350 per order and its cost Rs. 22 per part. The
inventory carrying cost is 15% of the cost of the item per year. The firm currently purchases
Rs. 2,20,000 worth of this part every year. Determine the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ).
What is the time between two orders? What is optimum number of orders per year to
minimize the cost for the firm?
2. Find the optimal order quantity for a product when the annual demand for the product is 500
units, the cost of storages per unit per year is 10% of the unit cost and ordering cost per
order is Rs. 180. The unit cost are given below.
Quantity
Unit Cost
0Q1<500
Rs. 25.00
500Q2<1500
Rs. 24.80
1500Q3<3000
Rs. 24.60
3000Q4
Rs. 24.40

3. A contractor has to supply 10,000 bearings per day to an automobile manufacturer. He finds
that when he starts production run, he can produce 25,000 bearings per day. The cost of
holding a bearing in stock for a year is Rs. 2 and the set up cost of production run is Rs. 180.
How frequently should production run be made? Also find production run time and total
variable cost (Assume 300 days in the year).
4. Monthly demand for an item is 200 units ordering cost is Rs. 350, Inventory carrying charge is
24% of the purchase price per year. The purchase prices are
P1 = Rs. 10 For Purchasing Q1 < 500
P2 = Rs. 9.25 For Purchasing 500 Q2 < 750
P3 = Rs. 8.75 For Purchasing 750 Q3
Determine optimum purchase quantity. If the order cost is reduced to Rs. 100 per order
compute the optimum purchase quantity
