Service Description
ADSL2+ adopts asymmetric transmission mode and features:
z
Service Specifications
The MA5600 provides the ADSL2+ service through the ADEF or ADBF board. An MA5600
shelf can house up to 14 ADSL2+ boards. With each board providing 64 ADSL2+ ports, an
MA5600 shelf supports up to 896 ADSL2+ subscribers.
The MA5600 supports four encapsulation types: Auto, Bridge, PPPoA and IPoA. The Auto
type includes the llc-Bridge, vcmux-Bridge, llc-IP, llc-PPP, and vcmux-PPP type. By default,
the llc-Bridge type is used.
Table 1-1 lists the encapsulation type mapping between the MA5600 and the modem.

The MA5600 can restrict the user rate through a specified traffic profile or an ADSL2+ line profile.
When both the traffic profile and the ADSL2+ line profile work, the smaller bandwidth specified in
the two profiles is used as the user line bandwidth.
The following takes the user rate restriction through the traffic profile for example. The default line
profile is used.
Precautions
z
Issue 01 (2006-08-10)
In case of IPoA access, select the dynamic IP address (without specifying the source IP
address) or static IP address (specifying the source IP address).
1-5
SmartAX MA5600
Configuration Guide - Service Volume
To switch from a dynamic address to a static address in IPoA access, you need to adopt
LLC-Bridge encapsulation first, and then adopt the IPoA static address encapsulation.
When configuring the IP address of a PC, make sure that the IP address is in the same
subnet as that of the user side port of the upstream BRAS.
Configuration Procedure
z
In this brief procedure, the extended line profile is not configured. For how to configure the
extended line profile, see 1.6 Configuring an Extended ADSL2+ Line Profile.

Configuration Guide - Service Volume
Specifications
Up to 1002 line profiles can be configured for the MA5600. Line profiles 1, 1000, 1001 and
1002 are the default ones, which can be modified.
The ADSL2+ line profile contains a series of parameters, such as:
z
When a port is being activated, the ATU-C negotiates with the ATU-R based on the
parameters in the line profile, so as to determine whether the connection can be set up
between them under the existing conditions.
Prerequisite
The ADSL2+ line meets the requirement for service provisioning.
Precautions
When configuring an ADSL2+ line profile, pay attention to the following points:
z
When the transmission mode is G.lite (G992.2/G992.4), you can select only
interleaved as the channel mode.
When the downstream channel mode is adaptAtRuntime, the downstream max. rate
must be equal to the mini. rate.
When setting the upstream/downstream SNR margin, make sure that the settings comply
with mini. SNR margin target SNR margin max. SNR margin.
When setting the downstream SNR margin for rate downshift, make sure that it is larger
than or equal to the downstream mini. SNR margin. Similarly, the upstream SNR margin
for rate downshift shall be equal to or larger than the upstream mini. SNR margin.

The steps contained in the dotted line frame of the flowchart are only available for mode
2-adaptAtRuntime.
Example
To add an ADSL2+ line profile, and assume the following settings:
z
Do as follows:
huawei(config)#adsl line-profile add

After an extended ADSL2+ line profile is used, bind it with the ports and then directly
reference it for activating the ADSL2+ ports.
Parameter Description
An extended ADSL2+ line profile is used to configure the extended parameters for an ADSL
port when the port is activated. The following are major parameters.
z
Missingtone
When you set this parameter to the specified sub-carriers of the line, these
sub-carriers have no power output, and no bit is allocated to them.
If the noise of some band is very unstable, you can set this parameter to forbid this
band. In this way, the line will not be affected by this band.
In addition, you can set this parameter to forbid the desired bands for other purposes.
Example
To add an extended ADSL2+ line profile and set the tones 8090 disabled, do as follows:
huawei(config-if-adsl-0/5)#adsl extline-profile add
{ <cr>|profile-index<L><1,32> }:

Specifications
z
Activating (or activation) refers to the training between the ATU-C and the ATU-R.
During the training process, the system checks the line distance and line state based on
settings included in the line profile, such as upstream/downstream line rate and SNR
margin. The ATU-C negotiates with the ATU-R to check whether the MA5600 can work
normally under the existing conditions.
If the training succeeds, the ATU-C can communicate with the ATU-R. At the moment,
the port works in activated state, and is ready for service data transmission.
When the ATU-R is online, the activation process ends upon the completion of the
training. When the ATU-R gets offline, the communication is terminated, and the ATU-C
is in listening state. Once the ATU-R gets online, the training process begins
automatically. When the training succeeds, the port is activated.
Prerequisite
The ADSL2+ line profile has been configured.
Note
To activate an ADSL2+ port, you need to bind it with an ADSL2+ line profile. If no profile is
specified, the system will use the profile bound with the port last time to activate the ADSL2+
port.

Specification
By default, LLC and VC-MUX are used for the IPoA encapsulation. You can set the
encapsulation type as needed.
Notes
When configuring LLC encapsulation for IPoA access, pay attention to the following points:
z
LLC encapsulation supports both dynamic and static source IP address learning. So you
do not need to specify the source IP address if the modem automatically reports the IP
address.
When a default gateway has been configured for the IPoA service, you need not
configure the destination IP address for the IPoA user. In this case, the users destination
IP address is that of the default gateway.
After you have configured IPoA encapsulation for an xDSL port, you can delete a virtual
port only after you have changed the encapsulation type to LLC bridge.
Make sure the MAC address pool is configured before the encapsulation configuration.
Otherwise, the encapsulation configuration fails.
When configuring VC-MUX encapsulation for IPoA access, pay attention to the following
points:
z
Since VC-MUX encapsulation supports only static source IP address learning, you must
specify the source IP address.
When a default gateway has been configured for the IPoA service, you need not
configure the destination IP address for the IPoA user. In this case, the users destination
IP address is that of the default gateway.

Specifications
The MA5600 determines whether to segment and reassemble packets according to the
PPPoA/PPPoE MRU configuration.
z
MRU disabled
The PC initiates a PPPoE connection and negotiates by MRU of 1492 bytes. In this case,
the packets shall be segmented and reassembled.
MRU enabled
The MA5600 identifies the PPPoE packets converted from PPPoA packets. The MA5600
adds a Tag to the packets and then sends them to the ISU. The ISU negotiates with the
CPE according to the 1500-byte MRU. By doing so, the size of the MTU between the
CPE to the ISU is equal to that of the standard MTU of the Ethernet. In this case, the
packet is not segmented and reassembled.

When an ADSL port is activated, the upstream and downstream rate measurement states
change. If the host detects one rate measurement does not meet the system requirement, an
alarm will be reported to the NMS. If the host detects both the upstream and downstream rate
measurements meet the system requirement, a recovery alarm will be reported.
Before monitoring the upstream and downstream rates, set the upstream and downstream test
rates. The unit of the rate is kbps.
Precautions
z
When the specified port rate measurement threshold ranges from 1 to 31, no alarm will
be generated because the port activation rate is always larger than 31.
In CLI mode, the alarm enabling/disabling function is not supported, while the NMS
supports this function.
The upstream and downstream rate measurement thresholds are set separately, and do

Specifications
When a port is looped back, the Ethernet frames sent from the port will be sent back. By
comparing the sent frames with the received ones, you can determine whether the link is
normal.
The MA5600 supports the local loopback for an ADSL2+ port:
z
Local loopback means the office end loopback. When performing an office end test, you
only need to test the switch chips and the office end ADSL2+ port, so you do not need to
set up any ADSL2+ link. But this loopback can be set up only when the link is
deactivated.
The MA5600 supports three local loopback modes: AFE, HYBRID and UTOPIA.
The command loopback just loops back a port, but cannot enable the CPU to send test
frames. You can use the port of an auxiliary device to send test frames.
After a port is looped back, it cannot forward packets correctly. If not properly isolated,
the port may cause a broadcast storm. So, when the test completes, you shall disable the
loopback in time.
Notes
Procedure
To loop back a port, follow the steps below:
Step 1 Select a testing port, and connect it with the auxiliary device.
Step 2 Configure a VLAN, and add the testing and tested ports (ADSL2+ ports) to it to avoid
affecting the normal services.
Step 3 Run the command loopback to loop back the ADSL2+ port.
Step 4 Show and undo port settings that might affect the port, such as STP, and clear the port
statistics.
Step 5 Send a certain number of packets at a rate lower than 10 Mbit/s through the auxiliary device.
Step 6 Stop sending packets and check the number of received packets.
If the number of the received packets equals that of the sent packets, the link is normal.
Step 7 Run the command undo loopback to cancel the loopback setting for the port.
