He makes an unlikely ally in the form of an aging maintenance man, Mr. Han (Chan), a kung fu master who teaches him the secrets of self-defense.

1984 In Karate Kid the protagonist is a young boy of high school age who moves with his mother to a new location and encounters bullies. Then with the help of a mentor and teacher of martial arts the boy manages to stand up for himself and protect himself. Finally in both the karate films the lead character competes in a martial arts competition. The plot of the two Karate Kid films is very similar but there are a few slight differences.
Differences between the 1984 film and 2010
While in the 1984 film the action took place in the United States in 2010 takes place in China. Mr. Miyagi is Japanese, while Mr. Han is Chinese. Daniel Larusso is Italian-American, while Dre Parker is African American. The death of the wife and son of Mr. Miyagi (in the 1984 film) occurs in labor during World War II, however, in the 2010 film, the wife and son of Mr. Han killed in a traffic accident during a discussion.
