C) Target Strength for mix Proportioning

fck = fck + 1.65 s
Where
f ck = target average compressive strength at 28 days,

For The Contractor

For The Concessionaire/PMC

For The Independent Engineer

M50PSC-3
fck = characteristic compressive strength at 28 days , and
s

= Standard deviation

From table -1 IS: 10262, standard deviation, S = 5 N/mm2

Therefore, target strength = 50 + 1.65 x 5 = 58.25 N/mm2.
As per MORTH Table 1700.5 required target mean compressive strength = 50+13= 63.00 N/mm 2.
D ) Selection of Water Cement Ratio
As per IS: 10262- 2009 and MORTH Table 1700.2, maximum water cement ratio = 0.40
Based on trails, adopt water cement ratio as 0.35
0.35

0.40, hence O.K

E ) Selection of water content:

From table 2, maximum water content for 20mm aggregate = 186 liters
Estimate water content for 75 to 125 mm, Slump

= 186 + 9/100 x 186 = 202.74 liters

As super plasticizer is used, the water content can be reduced up to 20 percent and above.
Based on trails with super plasticizer, water content reduction of 13.7 percent has been achieved. Hence,
the arrived water content = 202.74 x 0.863 = 175 lit
F) Calculation of cement content:
Water - Cement Ratio = 0.35
Cement Content

= 175/0.35 = 500 kg/m3

As per MORTH Table 1700-2 Minimum Cement Content

= 400 kg/m3

500 kg/m3 > 400 kg/m3, Hence, OK

G) Proportion of Volume of Coarse Aggregate and Fine aggregate Content:
From table 3, volume of coarse aggregate corresponding to 20 mm size aggregate and fine aggregate
(Zone-II) for water cement ratio of 0.50 = 0.62

For The Contractor

For The Concessionaire/PMC

For The Independent Engineer

M50PSC-3
In the present case water cement ratio is 0.35. Therefore, Volume of coarse aggregate is required to be
increased to decrease the fine aggregate content. As the water -cement ratio is lower by 0.15, the
proportion of volume of coarse aggregate is increased by 0.03 (at the rate of -/+ 0.01 for every 0.05
change in water- cement ratio). Therefore, corrected proportion of volume of coarse aggregate for the
water- cement ratio of 0.35 =0.65
Based on trail mixs sand content is decreased to = 0.32
Therefore, volume of coarse aggregate

= 0.68

Volume of fine aggregate content

= (1-0.68) = 0.32
