I am available for tutoring Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday mornings from 8:20 8:50 a.m. There will
be FIT (Flexible Instructional Time) sessions dedicated to Statistics.

This course is designed to help you learn the basics of data analysis, including the descriptive and
inferential statistical procedures that are commonly used in basic statistical research. You will learn
techniques for graphing and describing data; explore common function patterns including linear,
logarithmic, exponential and logistic functions; be introduced to correlation and linear regression;
learn the basic principles of hypothesis testing and the inferences that can be drawn from them; and
develop skills necessary for evaluating the conditional probability of events.

The activities, labs and assignments in this course are designed to help you achieve these outcomes:
1) Understand the basics of data analysis, including the statistical methods commonly used in
research.
2) Apply an analytical framework to solve data analysis problems and report your findings.
3) Analyze and model real-world data using the R statistical computing environment.

Canvas: You must have internet to access the Canvas LMS that we are using. You may also
download an app to access it on your phone for iphone and android users. There are regular
assessments to complete outside of class time.
Textbook: You will be using an open-source Statistics textbook found in Canvas.
R-Studio: You will have a personalized log-in to R-Studio. The link can be found in Canvas.

This course is built upon the idea that hands-on learning is an important and powerful way to learn.
However, there are times when you need to demonstrate your own independent ability to work and
solve problems. Any student found to be engaging in a form of academic dishonesty on behalf of
yourself or another student will receive a 0 on the assignment. A second infringement will be
reported to the Dean of Students office at the University of Texas at Austin.

You are responsible for ensuring that you are prepared for class. This means completing all course
assessments by the deadline. The high school grade will be determined as follows:
Formative Assessments 25%

Your high school grade WILL BE DIFFERENT from your college grade.

For your college grade, late work WILL NOT be accepted for ANY assignment. UT has provided a
very strict deadline, and if you do not complete the assignments/assessments for that unit by the
deadline, you will receive a 0 for all assignments/assessments not completed. UT WILL MAKE NO
EXCEPTIONS. For your high school grade, you have up to 3 school days to earn up to 50%.

If you have an excused absence the day a homework is assigned, you have 3 school days to get the
homework turned in for full credit. All quizzes assigned through Canvas MUST be completed by the
UT deadline REGARDLESS of an excused absence unless extenuating circumstances exist. If you
have an excused absence for a lab, problem set or exam, you will have 3 school days to make-up the
work. You will receive a 0 (in both the high school and college grade) for untimely completion of
make-up work.

A significant portion of this course concentrates on investigating statistical concepts through R-Studio
as well as accessing the textbook and submitting course assignments through Canvas. Both RStudio and Canvas require internet access. If you do not have internet access at home, you will need
to become familiar with the library.

You will NOT have access to R-Studio during the three section exams and final exam required by UT.
You will need to not only be familiar with how to do statistical calculations in R-Studio, but also how to
do the calculations on a graphing calculator. Both will be demonstrated in class and mastery will be
shown of both will be shown on assessments.

Problem Set (using R with curriculum), Problem Set (over curriculum)
At the end of each section, there will be a Lab Exam (using R with curriculum) and a Section Exam
(over curriculum)
