OPEN PUBLIC CALL FOR PERFORMING ARTISTS

2016-2017

[Application Guideline]
Project Overview
Purpose
The Korean Cultural Center Washington, D.C. is seeking to give brilliant, talented artists
and performance groups the opportunity to perform for the American public through this
open call project. <OnStage Korea> advances the mission of the Korean Cultural Center
Washington, D.C. to foster cultural diplomacy by expanding the visibility of excellent
Korean performing arts and artists in mainstream America.

Performance Season: December 2016 - December 2017


A total of six performances are planned for the season. The opening performance will
take place in December 2016, and subsequent performances will be scheduled based
on artist/group availability.

Venues:
1) Major performing arts centers in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, including in
Maryland and Virginia
2) Performance venues at partner organizations, including fellow embassies and
international organizations in Washington, D.C.
3) The Korean Cultural Center Washington, D.C.
Venues will be determined based on the nature and size of the performance.

Applicant Qualifications
There are no broad restrictions based on nationality, age, or performance genre/type,
however applicants must meet at least one of the following conditions:
An individual artist, group, or non-profit arts organization that can present a live
performance related to Korean culture or arts, or a Korean cultural theme
An individual artist, group, or non-profit arts organization for which at least one performer
is Korean or Korean-American
Applicants should also note the following terms and exceptions:
- Performance runtime should be between 30 and 90 minutes
- Artists applying on a single project (temporary/one-time group) basis are eligible
- Performances that aim to raise funds are not eligible
- Artists cannot be part of multiple group applications in the same season, however they can
apply as an individual and as part of one group

Performing Arts Categories/Genres


Dance: Modern Dance, Korean Dance (Traditional or Creative), Ballet, Hip-Hop Dance,
K-Pop Dance, B-boy Dance, etc.
Music: Classical, Opera, Korean Traditional Music, Jazz, Vocal Music, World Music, K-Pop, etc.
Theater: Musical, Play, Puppetry, Mime, Drama, etc.
Other: Traditional Folk Performance, Nonverbal Performance, etc.

Support Provided
Performance venue (for a one-time event)
Stage technical production (sound, lighting, stage crew, etc.)
Nominal artist fees (dependent on size and quality of performance)
Promotional materials (online, posters, program, brochure, etc.)
Rehearsal space (at the Korean Cultural Center Washington, D.C.)
Reception (one-time event on performance date)
The Korean Cultural Center Washington, D.C. does not provide for or cover the following
potential expenses: airfare, accommodation, living expenses, food expenses, per diem
allowance, additional rehearsal space rental fees, insurance, visas for performers,
or other related expenses not listed above under Support Provided.

Application Schedule
Application Period: Monday, May 16, 2016 - Friday, September 30, 2016
Application Deadline: Friday, September 30, 2016 at 5:00PM EST
Review Period: Early October 2016
Final Selections and Notification of Results: Mid-Late October 2016 (selected artists and
groups will be contacted directly)

Application Evaluation Method


Applications will be evaluated by professionals and experts in the performing arts field
based on criteria from the Korean Cultural Center Washington, D.C. (including
consideration of application contents and any supporting materials submitted).

Application Documents
Two completed copies of the application form (one in English and one in Korean)
Optional other supporting documents, e.g. performer resumes, photos, past performance
video or audio, etc.

Any documents and materials submitted as part of an application will not be returned.
Applicants may be disqualified at any point if any information in their application is found
to be false or otherwise incorrect, or if terms of this guideline are not followed.
