CourseDescription
TheAPEnvironmentalSciencecourseisdesignedtobetheequivalentofaonesemester,
introductorycollegecourseinenvironmentalscience.Thegoalofthisclassistoprovide
studentswiththescientificprinciples,concepts,andmethodologiesrequiredtounderstandthe
interrelationshipsofthenaturalworld,toidentifyandanalyzeenvironmentalproblems,both
naturalandhumanmade,toevaluatetherelativerisksassociatedwiththeseproblems,andto
examinealternativesolutionsforresolvingorpreventingthem.

Environmentalscienceisinterdisciplinaryitembracesawidevarietyoftopicsfromdifferent
areasofstudy.Yetthereareseveralmajorunifyingconstructs,orthemes,thatcutacrossthe
manytopicsincludedinthestudyofenvironmentalscience.Thefollowingthemesprovidea
foundationforthestructureoftheAPEnvironmentalSciencecourse.
