EGALITARIANISM: A SUMMARY
A trend of thought that favours equality for all people, regardless of their gender,
religion, race, sexuality, etc., can be referred to as egalitarianism, equalitarianism
or equalism. Egalitarian doctrines maintain that all humans are equal in
fundamental worth, social status, political and economic affairs. It refers to a social
philosophy advocating the removal of inequalities among people.
The US constitution advocates egalitarianism in the form of the 14th amendment;
nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty or prosperity, without
process of law, nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection
of the laws.
Egalitarianism deals with multiple aspects of society with its nine basic types;
economic, moral, legal, luck, political, gender, racial, opportunity and Christian
egalitarianism.
Minority groups such as people of colour, religious sects, and people of various
sexual orientations are all among those who are in need of egalitarianism.
Men, who are usually thought to be privileged and looked down upon by most, are
in fact abundantly getting the short end of the stick per say. Though, females
might be oppressed largely and face difficulties predominantly, it does not erase the
fact that 40% of domestic violence victims are males or that men are the ones who
make up the majority of suicides; approximately 80%. 76% of men are homicide
victims as compared to the 24% women. Similarly, above 90% of the total
casualties that are killed in combat and industrial deaths and accidents, are indeed
men.

Pertaining to the wage gap, there is an undeniable discrimination. In simple terms,

if in country A, a white man earns 1 dollar, a white women earns 78 cents in the
exact same position for each dollar he earns. Likewise an African American
woman earns 64 cents, while a Hispanic woman earns 56 cents to each dollar.
However, Asian woman are an exception though they still earn less; 80 cents to
every dollar. This only furthers the view that there is indeed discrimination earning
wise, particularly in STEM fields, justifying yet another reason for egalitarianism,
economic in this case, to become a norm in society.
If we close all forms of wage gap- gender, race, ethnicity, and sexual orientationwe reduce poverty rates for all couple and completely close the gap between samesex couples and different-sex couples, said Alyssa Schneebaun, Hertha Firnberg

In regards of gender, emphasising only on one sides issues can be considered as
sexist as all genders can be victims of rape, mental/eating disorders, body
standards, etc.
Subsequently, egalitarianism being a notion worth acknowledging, allowing the
prevention of favouritism between genders and instead favouring zygarchy or
gender egalitarianism.
Moral egalitarianism deals with the idea that each and every person living in the
world is permitted to their rights as a person as they all bear the same fundamental
worth or moral status. This is usually not the case when met with individuals of a
diverse way of living; LGBT+ people. As shown in a recent study, lesbian
relationships are more prone to suffer domestic violence than any heterosexual
relationships and that heterosexual relationships face less domestic violence than
gay relationships.

Regardless of whether it is permitted in the religion of a state and/or country, these

people are entitled to basic human rights because, after all, they are in fact, human.
Another minority group which finds itself overlooked is the people of colour.
African American civilians are more likely to be arrested for drug use even though
African American and white people use illegal drugs at almost the same rate.
Racial bias plays a large role in these peoples lives. Whether it being trying to
acquire a job or a new friend. Another study showed that populace with Emily and
Brendan as names are more hireable than those with Lakisha and Jamal,
disregarding the fact that they had identical resumes. Moreover, it is shown that
Black former convicts get fewer employer call backs than white former convicts.
This further indicated the urgency for the absence of racial segregation among all
societies.
The predicament modern day feminists find themselves in is that they put so much
energy and emphasis into dress codes and a non-existent white oppression, that
they usually neglect issues of much higher intensity such as acid attacks and rape.
Campaigns to support LGBT+, womens and other minority rights groups exist;
egalitarianism is ingenuously a movement that is inclusive to all people.
These can essentially be described as subsets of egalitarianism.
Consequently, egalitarianism automatically encompasses feminism, but feminism
does not necessarily encompass egalitarianism. If you are an egalitarian, you are
automatically a feminist as well, as egalitarianism generalizes all of humanities
rights and fights for them as a whole. However if you are a feminist, it does not
automatically make you an egalitarian, as feminism focuses specifically on
womans rights in the society due to the fact that they had been, and still are in
some parts of the world, oppressed.

Egalitarianism simply simplifies these various beliefs into one, and addresses them
as a whole. Not just focusing on one sides suffering and demonizing the others. It
is the belief that DNA strand or a pair of genes, which are an insignificant piece of
information in this controversy, are the only thing that separates human beings.
Difference in one chromosome or a range in melanin levels does not in any way
define the superiority of any individual.
Though some may believe it is entirely impossible for every person on this planet
to attain the same level in society and that a difference in treatment is required.
Egalitarianism aims to achieve the best possible way of life for all; a utopian
world. All in all, there is no wrong notion; every human being deserves the right to
be treated fairly and equally.
