refuse to consider raising taxes on the obscenely
rich. All are intent on destroying the middle class
and sociopathically creating an America which
consists of the ultra rich and the ultra poor. And
we have to overcome the results of the Supreme

How Can We Overcome The Citizens
United Decision?
In this election cycle, an obscene amount of
money will be thrown into advertising. You will be
inundated by ads trashing Democratic candidates.
Independent and impartial studies have reported
that every ad by an unknown source contains at
least one lie in it.

If you havent received your Florida Voter Card

from your county Supervisor of Elections, call and
request it at: 561-656-6200.
A current Voter Card is necessary since all
Florida voting districts have been updated and
changed due to the results of the Fair Districts
Constitutional Amendments and the recent
Supreme Court decision.

ABC News reports: Campaign ads

want viewers to think theyre just
exposing the truth that voters
need to hear, but a new study finds
campaign attack ads from outside
groups are about 85 percent false.

Your Voter Card (see the Sample Florida Voter

note your polling address. It may have changed
since last time you voted.)

How To Reduce Annoying

Phone Calls and Mail

Almost as soon as you vote, candidates know

they no longer have to try to convince you,
so phone calls and mail will stop. Thats a
good reason to vote by mail (or early). If you
vote by mail, calls and mail will not annoy
you during the next month until Primary
Election Day.
Its not too late to request a mail ballot. Just
phone the Supervisor of Elections Office at
561-276-1226 and ask for a mail ballot. It
only takes 2 minutes to do it.

When a supporter said to Democratic

candidate Adlai Stevenson, Every thinking
person will vote for you, Stevenson said,
That's not enough. I need a majority.
In the 2016 election, when you say, Every
thinking person will not vote for Trump,
thats not enough. Hillary needs a majority!

Public Defender Job Description

By Rita Radostitz, eHow Contributor

Function The function of a public defender is
to provide a zealous defense for his clients. In a
criminal trial, the prosecutor or district attorney
will represent the government and the public
defender will represent the accused.
Types In many cities and states, public
defenders work together in an organization that

libraries, bridges, every traffic signal in Palm
Beach County, the public transportation system,
and the budgets for other elected constitutional
officers (like the Sheriff, Clerk of Court, Supervisor
of Elections). BoCC also allocates funds to support
specific programs by the Courts. The BoCC serves
as a kind of Board of Directors for the County,
and has sole authority to hire and fire the County
Administrator (who serves as CEO of the County),
County Attorney, and County Internal Auditor.
The BoCC also act as the Child Care Facilities
Board, the Solid Waste Authority Governing

Supervisor of Elections Job Description

An elections supervisor ensures that political
elections are conducted within local, regional
and national laws and guidelines. The SOE
is generally required to have experience in
directing the activities of clerks, supervisors and
election workers who contract to assist in voting
procedures on the day of the election.

An elections supervisor stays up-to-date on
the latest voting equipment operation and any
changes in voting policies and procedures. Strictly
following protocols in handling ballots and voting
records also is important to be successful as an
elections supervisor.

U.S. Senate District The United States

Senate is the upper house of the two legislative
chambers of the United States, and together
with the United States House of Representatives

state is represented by two senators, regardless
of population. Senators serve staggered six-year
terms. The chamber of the United States Senate

State House District The Florida House of

Representatives is the lower house of the Florida
Legislature, the state legislature of the US state of
Florida. The House is composed of 120 members
representing an equal number of districts, with
each district having an average population of
156,677. The House convenes at the State Capitol

The Senate has several exclusive powers not

granted to the House, including consenting to
treaties as a precondition to their ratification and
consenting or confirming appointments of Cabinet
secretaries, federal judges, other federal executive
officials, military officers, regulatory officials,
ambassadors, and other federal uniformed
officers, as well as trial of federal officials
impeached by the House. The Senate is both a
more deliberative and more prestigious body than
the House of Representatives, due to its longer
terms, smaller size, and statewide constituencies,
which historically led to a more collegial and less
partisan atmosphere. The Senate is sometimes
called the worlds greatest deliberative body.

School District Under Florida statute, each

county comprises a school district. Additionally,
there are four laboratory schools (operated
by Florida A & M University, Florida Atlantic
University, Florida State University, and the
University of Florida), the Florida School for
the Deaf and Blind, and the Florida Virtual
School, provided for under statute, and the
Okeechobee Youth Development Center, which is
administered through the Florida Department of
Juvenile Justice by a private contractor. In total,
there are 74 districts in the state: one for each of
the 67 counties, one each for the four research
schools, one for the school for the deaf and blind,
one for the virtual school, and one for the youth
development center.

live in poor households can receive school lunch

for free. The taxpayers of the state pay for this.
Sounds like socialism to me, and also the moral
and Christian thing to do.

75 Ways Socialism
Has Improved America
Daily Kos Classics

Continued from July 1 Issue [ed]

36. The Pentagon

Our defense system in America is a socialist
system from top to bottom. We, as taxpayers,
fund the pentagon completely.

Ways 31 - 45

31. G.I. Bill

The G.I. bill allows veterans to pursue an
education by using taxpayer dollars to help them
pay for most of their schooling. It also helps them
with loans, savings, and unemployment benefits.

37. Medicaid
Our government uses taxpayer funds to provide
health care for low-income people. Republicans,
the compassionate Christians that they are,
absolutely hate this program. What they fail to
understand is that when people can't afford to pay
their outrageous medical bills, they don't. This bill
does not disappear. The loss that the insurance
company, doctor's office, or hospital takes gets
passed down to everyone else. So covering people
and giving them a low-income option reduces
costs for them and everyone else. This is the main
argument behind a health care mandate. It's not
to force you to buy health care out of cruelty. If
everyone is covered, costs drop for everyone. If
you have no compassion for the uninsured, you
can at least understand the rationale in a selfish
sense.

32. Hoover Dam

Remember when our country used to build
things? Our government built the Hoover Dam
using taxpayer funds. It is now a vital source of
power for the west coast.
33. State/City Zoos
American families have been going to the zoo
for generations. A place where kids and adults
can have fun seeing creatures and animals from
all over the world and learn at the same time.
Many zoos are run by the state and/or city, using
taxpayer funds to operate and even bring the
animals to the zoo.
34. IRS
I know, the IRS is about as popular and well liked
in America as a hemorrhoid, but think about it.
The IRS is the reason that we have anything.
The IRS collects taxpayer funds for the federal
government. The government then dispenses
these funds to our military, states, and social
programs. If there is no one collecting taxes,
no one will pay them. If no one pays taxes, our
country shuts down. Without money to operate,
nothing operates. This may sound like a good
thing to some radical Republicans, but for those
of us with sense, we know this means anarchy in
the USA. The IRS gets a bad rap because if you
don't pay your taxes or owe them money, they
can be ruthless. Like everything else, the IRS is
not perfect, but without them we literally have no
country or no means to run it.

38. FDA
The Food and Drug Administration is far from
perfect. It is infested with corporate corruption
and they have been wrong many, many times.
Countless times they have approved things
that they later have to apologize for and have
banned things that would have helped people.
However, they have also stopped many harmful
foods and products from being sold to the public
and protect us every day from poisons being
disguised as products. While not perfect, they are
needed to prevent harmful food and drugs from
being sold to you and you family. Without them,
corporations can send whatever they want to
your supermarkets and drug stores without any
testing or evaluation. I don't mind my taxes going
towards a middle man to inspect the safety of the
products we are being sold everyday.

35. Free Lunch Program

Some children are living in poverty by no fault of
their own. I'm not saying it is even their parents
fault, but you surely cannot blame a child for the
situation they are born into. In most if not all
states, there are programs where children who

45. Unemployment Insurance

All your working life, you pay payroll taxes.
Some of these taxes go toward a program that
temporarily provides for people who lost their
jobs until they can find another one. You pay
for others, others pay for you. Especially these
days, you never know when you might lose your
job. You may need temporary assistance until you
get back on your feet. The government recognizes
this. UI also keeps the economy moving in times of
recession because people still have some money in
their pockets to buy goods and promote demand.

to help 9/11 rescue workers with their health care

after many came down with horrible lung diseases
from the toxins they breathed in rescuing people
from smoldering buildings. These brave citizens
risked their lives and health to help complete
strangers. They deserve more, but covering their
health care is a good start.
40. Swine Flu Vaccine
Do you have swine flu right now? Then thank
government and the socialist structure.
41. Disability Insurance (SSDI)
For those who are disabled and cannot work, our
government provides an income for them via
taxpayer dollars as opposed to the other option of
letting them starve to death.

(August 15th).

42. Town/State Run Beaches

Like going to the beach? Like it when the beach is
clean and safe? Like having lifeguards on staff in
case of an emergency? Then once again, thank the
taxpayers and the socialist structure that makes it
all possible.

WHAT DID LIBERALS DO THAT

WAS SO OFFENSIVE TO THE
REPUBLICAN PARTY?

43. Corporate Bailouts/Welfare

The whole point of this post is to prove that we
ALL use, benefit from, and like socialism. This
example is a form of socialism that the republicans
not only like, but fight tooth and nail for. They
don't like it when socialism is used for working/
poor people, but when it's for millionaires and
their corporate donors, socialism becomes as
American as apple pie. The middle/working
class who are the majority of taxpayers pay for
welfare for corporations and people who have
more money than all of us combined. When our
government bails out a bank or gives a subsidy to
a billion dollar corporation, you are paying for it.

Lawrence ODonnell Jr.

Ill tell you what they did.

Liberals got women the right to vote.
Liberals got African-Americans the right to vote.
Liberals created Social Security and lifted
millions of elderly people out of poverty.
Liberals ended segregation.
Liberals passed the Civil Rights Act, the Voting
Rights Act.
Liberals created Medicare.
Liberals passed the Clean Air Act, the Clean
Water Act.
What did Conservatives do?
They opposed every one of those things,
every one!
So when you try to hurl that label at my feet,
Liberal, as if it were something to be ashamed of,
something dirty, something to run away from, it
wont work,
because I will pick up that label and I
will wear it as a badge of honor.

44. State Construction

Ever see those construction workers in your town
fixing potholes, erecting buildings, repaving
highways and roads, and fixing things all over
town? They themselves and the work they do is
taxpayer-funded state socialism.

From Conflict
of Interest to
Country First:
The Six Rules of
Relationships of
Trust

Breach of Duty An agent or employee of a

lender breaches his duty of full disclosure to the
lender if he does not tell his employer that he has
learned that the buyer has a poor credit rating and
is unlikely to be able to repay the loan.
A stockbroker has a duty to fully disclose any
negative information he subsequently learns
about an investment which he encouraged his
client to purchase. The disclosure must be timely
so the client can take seasonable steps to protect
himself.

by Maureen F. Glasheen Esq.

This talk from 2009 presented in 6 parts

in the The Enlightened Voter eloquently
describes what are the Six Rules of Relationships of Trust and how many of our legislators and business critters should go to jail for
breaking those rules! [ed.]
Part 4 of 6

Rule Four: Obedience

(Duty to Act Only as Authorized)

Rule Two: Reasonable Care

Scope An agent (employee) has a duty to stay

within the scope of authority conferred and follow
all lawful Instructions of his Principal (employer).

Your agent (employee) must use care, skill and

diligence to:

In other words, your attorneys, brokers, public

officers and other agents work for you not the
other way around. Some have forgotten that.

Relationships of Trust

(Duty of Reasonable Care, Skill and Diligence)

1. transact business to your best advantage,

2. protect you against foreseeable harm and
injury, and
3. recommend an outside expert when the
advice or assistance that you require is
beyond the scope of their expertise.
Violation The corporate officers and directors,
with fiduciary duties to their shareholders, who
incompetently lead their financial firms into
bankruptcy by adopting lending practices that
ignored the debtors ability to repay, violated their
Duty of Reasonable Care, Skill and Diligence.
How?

Instructions Must Be Lawful On the other

hand, you can only give lawful instructions. Your
agents duty of loyalty to you does not extend to
following orders to commit illegal acts.
Clients Right One of the essential elements
of Relationships of Trust is the right of the client to
control the actions of his or her agent or employee.
Trust Document As you may recall, a trustee
looks to the written trust document for direction on
their scope of authority and specific instructions.
For Terry Shiavo had there been a written
living will, who do you think would have been
more likely to carry out her lawful instructions to
not unnecessarily prolong her life her husband
or her parents? Who would have understood their
duty to follow lawful instructions rather than
impose their own will on her? Who would have
put Terrys interest ahead of their own?
Scope of Authority On the other hand, an
agent or employee looks to his/her principal/
employer for specific instructions and the scope
of authority. The main difference between an
employee and an agent is that the employer has
physical control of the actions of the employee.
So even though your attorney is your agent, not
your employee, you still have the right to give
directions as to the result you want and when you
want it achieved.

Ignoring Reality They all ignored reality.

Nothing is a more basic violation of the Duty Of
Reasonable Care than that.
Warren Buffett declared collateralized debt
obligations to be financial weapons of mass
destruction several years ago. Nobody listened.

Rule Three: Full Disclosure

Of All Material Information
(Duty to Give Information)

An agent (employee) has an affirmative duty

to disclose all material information he knows or
learns about the transaction and all information
concerning any adverse interests he may have to
those of his employer.

Why vote for Amendment 4?

Lower taxes on solar equals lower bills, a sustainable
future for Florida, increased access to more
affordable solar, and new local jobs.
Needs 60% to pass.
To become law, Amendment 4 must be approved by
a YES vote of at least 60 percent on
the Aug. 30 primary ballot.
Encourage Solar Companies.
In addition to helping customers lock
in energy cost savings, and reducing
pollution for a more sustainable
energy future, Amendment 4 will
encourage solar companies to move
into Florida, creating new jobs that support the
local economy. The solar industry is creating jobs
20 times faster than the overall economy. The vast
majority of those jobs are living-wage opportunities
that cannot be outsourced. Its a win-win for the
whole state.
Floridas energy potential.
Florida has the most solar energy potential east of
the Mississippi, yet isnt a leader on solar power. A
yes vote on Amendment 4 will lower bills and allow
solar energy to flourish in Florida.
Amendment 4 empowers Floridians
to be energy independent.
Floridians want to go solar but are currently faced
with barriers that can make clean solar energy
seem out of reach. By lowering the taxes on solar,
Amendment 4 makes solar energy more affordable
for businesses and homeowners in Florida.
Amendment 4 paves the way for a
sustainable Florida.
Solar is clean and safe energy, with zero emissions
and zero water usage. By lowering the cost of solar,
more people will have access to this clean energy
source.
Amendment 4 reduces
monthly power bills
While every solar system is different, most solar
customers, both business and residential, can lock
in long term savings on their monthly power bill by
going solar. Once Amendment 4 passes, a residential
solar lease can save a homeowner hundreds off their
power bill through the life of the contract by locking
in a lower rate, while utility rates continue to rise.
One of the largest utilities in Florida just proposed
a 24% rate increase over the next four years;
affordable solar helps protect Floridians from rate
hikes and provides financial stability and certainty.

A securities broker who places his or her client

into investments that are beyond the clients
stated risk tolerance, is exceeding the scope of his
or her authority. A brokers injured client should
seek forfeiture of all compensation as well as
restitution for all losses.
Protection How do you protect yourself
against agents who dont realize that it is your
right to control their conduct?
When you send someone out into the world to
do your business on your behalf, you will be
vicariously liable for the losses or injuries they
cause while transacting that business. The broader
the scope of authority you confer upon your agent
(employee) the broader your risk of liability for
their bad judgment. Limit your risk of liability
by limiting the scope of authority conferred.
Instructions and limitations upon authority
conferred may be communicated verbally, in
writing, or both.

Floridians will be given the choice in the Primary
election on August 30th to vote on Amendment 4. This
amendment gives Floridians a chance to affect
climate change by increasing the
use of solar panels
What will passing
Amendment 4 do?
Amendment 4 would allow for a
property tax exemption for people
who install solar panels on their home or business.
The value of the solar panels would be exempt from
property taxes when assessing the value of the home
or business, lowering the cost of solar and energy.

Where Can I See a Sample of My

August Primary Ballot?
Go to the Supervisor of Elections website:
www.pbcelections.org and click on

If You Leave the Party Field Blank This

is why it is important to indicate your preferred
party affiliation at the time you register. If you leave
the party field blank on the registration form, you
will be registered without party affiliation.
If there is opposition and you are registered as "No
Party Affiliation" or with a minor political party
affiliation, you can only vote for:
"Nonpartisan candidates and Issues only"
Nonpartisan candidates are: County Judges
and School Board Members, and 3 of the
5 constitutional offices: Sheriff, property
appraiser, and supervisor of elections.

What is a Universal Primary?

When can a voter vote in a primary

election regardless of which major or
minor political party they are registered
or even if they are registered without a
specific party affiliation.

What is a Closed Primary?

Florida is a "closed primary" state. Which

means:
If you wish to vote in a partisan primary
election, you must be a registered voter in the
party for which the primary is being held.

During these elections, the race is considered to

be a Universal Primary Contest:
If all the candidates for an office have the same
party affiliation and
the winner of the primary election will not face
any opposition in the general election (i.e. no
write-in candidates have qualified),
then all registered voters can vote for any of the
candidates for that office in the primary election.
When races for nonpartisan (i.e., free from party
affiliation) judicial and school board offices,
nonpartisan special districts or local referendum
questions are on the primary election ballot, then
all registered voters, including those without
party affiliation are entitled to vote those races on
the ballot.
During a general election, all registered voters receive the same ballot and may vote for any candidate or question on the ballot. If there are writein candidates who have qualified for a particular
office, a space will be left on the ballot where their
name can be written.

However:
if all candidates for an office have the same
party affiliation and the winner will have no
opposition in the general election, all qualified
voters, regardless of party affiliation, may vote
in the primary election for that office.
Also, all registered voters, regardless of party
affiliation can vote on issues and non-partisan
candidates.
Thus,
If you are registered as a Democrat,
your ballot will only show Democratic
candidates, non-partisan candidates, and
ballot amendments.
If you are registered as a Republican,
your ballot will only show Republican
candidates, non-partisan candidates, and
ballot amendments.

What is a Write-in Candidate?

If you are registered as a Libertarian,

your ballot will only show Libertarian
candidates, non-partisan candidates, and
ballot amendments.

A write-in candidate is a candidate who qualified

in a manner that does not allow for his/her name
to appear on the ballot. However, a space is
provided for the candidates name to be written on
the general election ballot. A person qualifying as
a write-in candidate is not required to pay a filing
fee, election assessment, or party assessment.

If you are registered with No Party

Affiliation, your ballot will only show nonpartisan candidates and ballot amendments.

Dan Isaacsons publication, The Enlightened Voter, is a highly informative civic education newsletter that has illustrated the importance of
civics education in increasing voter turnout. The
newsletter includes original material as well as
contributions by nationally-known columnists. It is
extremely well written and researched. At a time
when Florida is one of Americas most important
swing states, educating the electorate can be instrumental in the outcome of elections. All voters
in Palm Beach County ought to read The Enlightened Voter.

County Commission District

Tom Gabor, Ph.D., Confronting Gun Violence in America

I am running for county commission to provide the

public with more access. I believe that currently the
public is not part of the process. I believe that staff
and commissioners only listen to those promoting
development.
Too much development is overwhelming the infrastructure of the
county It results in unmet needs and is the cause for the county
to ask for a sales tax increase that will burden the poor and the
middle class.
