NI Advanced Signal Processing Lab

NI Advanced Signal Processing Lab

DSP algorithms have long been run on specialized processors called digital signal
processors (DSPs), or on purpose-built hardware such as application-specific integrated
circuits (ASICs). Today there are additional technologies used for digital signal processing
including more powerful general purpose microprocessors, field-programmable gate
arrays (FPGAs), digital signal controllers and stream processors among others.

National Instruments provides a graphical programming environment for developing,

prototyping and deploying advanced signal processing algorithms and concepts on many
of the above mentioned platforms. The NI Advanced Signal Processing Lab allows
students to compare DSP and non-DSP based implementations and performance metrics
for different deployment targets.

The Lab comprises of the NI LabVIEW Embedded Module for ARM which takes graphical
programming to the popular, embedded 32-bit reduced instruction set computing (RISC)
processor. Special module features include support for CAN communication, preset build
configurations, automatic notification of incompatible build settings, and shared variable
support.
