To do:
Task 1 UNIT NINE
1.What can you do to prevent fires in the home?
-Inspect your home- You may need to recruit, or even hire, someone experienced in
home electrical wiring, plumbing (gas), heating, and air conditioning to ensure that
it is thoroughly inspected. You can also do the checks outlined in the following
steps.
- Look for improperly grounded receptacles. Many modern appliances require a
"three pronged" (grounded) receptacle, but people will sometimes use an adapter to
bypass this safety feature, or even break a ground prong off an appliance cord.
Changing existing circuits to provide grounding is a job that is best left to a
professional electrician.
- Check the ground cable. A failure in the building grounding system and bonding
can be dangerous in regard to electrical shock, as well as fire. Look for loose split
bolts, clamps, or other connecting devices, and corrosion.
-Try to avoid having curtains and wooden objects in the kitchen.
-Try avoiding smoking in the house.
- Always have in house a fire extinguisher and anti-fire system.

2. What would you do if a fire started?

Immediately pull the nearest fire alarm pull station as you exit the
building. When evacuating the building, be sure to feel doors for heat before
opening them to be sure there is no fire danger on the other side.If there is
smoke in the air, stay low to the ground, especially your head, to reduce
inhalation exposure. Keep on hand on the wall to prevent disorientation and
crawl to the nearest exit.Once away and clear from danger, call your report
contact and inform them of the fire. Go to your refuge area and await further
instructions from emergency personnel.

5.3.3.Task 2 UNIT FIVE comprehention check

1. Smokers must be assure that the used cigarettes are out of the house when
they are going to bed,and keep the cigarretes and lighters away from
children.
2. Kitchen curtains are a fire hazard because they can help fire spread more
easily.
3. Window locks can be an enemy in your escape in case of a fire.
4. In this case I announce my electricity supplyers (Electrica) to come and
review the appliance.
5.The most important thing is to know how to get out of a building in case it
catches on fire. Getting outside quickly and safely is your top priority. Knowing
where exits are and how to get to them is important, since fire and smoke can
easily block some exits you might think to take.
If you're in a room with a closed door when a fire breaks out, you must be very
careful before opening the door. If you see smoke coming under the door or if the
door itself or the doorknob is hot or very warm, don't open the door.
Try as much as possible to stay closer to the ground because of the toxic air that
gets high, and to cover your face and mouth so you dont inhale too much.

Task 1:
From coin to paper
In ninth century China,at the height of the Tang dynasty, the government
became concerned about the convenience of carrying around large amounts
of coins in order to conduct business actions. Consequently, they devised a
method of paying merchants with money certificates, which had a tendancy
to blow away.
This quickly earned them the naming flying cash.

14

These certificates could be exchanged for coin money on demand at the

capital. They were transferred,so merchants began exchanging them with
each otherinstead of using coins.
It was not until the Song dynasty that actual paper money was
created.Initially introduces by a group of merchants and financiers, each
banknote had images of houses, trees and people printed on it. These were
companies by various intricate markings, the identification of which can be
made only by the issuing banks, thereby making counterfeiting difficult. For
this reason, they became readly accepted for payment, and their circulation
increased. Then,in 1023,the government decided to withdraw the banknotes
and issue government notes in their place, every one of them with a cash
backing. These new banknotes could be exchanged for government-issued
coins, and so could be used to buy simple groceries. As a result, the use of
paper money soon became spreaded.
