Course Syllabus
2016- 2017
Course Objective:
The student uses mathematical processes to acquire and demonstrate
mathematical understanding of Algebra I objectives.
Grading:
60% Major, 30% Daily, 10% Homework
1 Major every three weeks

Schedule of Algebra 1 Units:


Unit 1: Students will be able to translate and solve one variable equations and
inequalities.
Week 1: August 22 August 26
Evaluating Algebraic expressions
Simplify expressions using the distributive property and combining like
terms
Week 2: August 29 September 2
Simplify expressions using the distributive property and combining like
terms from geometric applications
Solving one variable equations using the distributive property and
combing like terms
Week 3: September 5 September 9
Solving one variable equations using the distributive property and
combing like terms incorporating fractions and decimals
Solving one variable equations with variables on both sides using the
distributive property and combing like terms
Solving one variable equations with variables on both sides incorporating
the terms no solution and all real solutions

Test over simplifying expressions and solving one variable equations using
the distributive property and combing like terms
Translate and solve algebraic equations

Solving one variable inequalities using the distributive property and

Unit 2: Students will be able evaluate algebraic equations in function notation and
determine the
domain and range of a function

evaluate function notation
Determine the domain and range from a set of ordered pairs, mapping
diagram, tables and discrete graphs

Unit 3: Students will be able graph and identify the key components of linear
functions
