Title: Indoor Design For The Aurassi Hotel
Version: V1.1
Date: August 2004
Author: Sabrina MANSOURA & Hatem MOKHTARI
Summary: This document shows the adopted solution for indoor design of the Aurassi
main locations where the Wataniya events (22nd and 24th August 2004) will
be held. Unfortunately no measurements are available when the pico-cells
are on air because of lack of time due to a fast deployment and very tight
timetable imposed by the Aurassi Management.

1. INTRODUCTION

For the launch event of the 22 and the 24 of August in the Aurassi
Hotel, Wataniya Télécom must seek a temporary solution to suit and to
guaranty a good quality of the coverage needs for the Outdoor and for
the indoor user.
For the Outdoor coverage, we have proposed to put 2 Ericsson RBS on
the roof top of the hotel; each one contains 2 sectors with a capacity
of 2TRU per sector.

The indoor solution for the Aurassi is detailed in this document.

This document is organized as follows: Section 2 contains the drawings

of the location that are reserved to Wataniya events and section 3
summarizes the indoor measurements of the signal level, while Section
3 include the proposed Indoor design.

2. Drawing

The event on the 22th is organized in the conference room and the
restaurant of the floor “e” whereas of the 24th will be in the night club
of the level “B”.

3. SIGNAL LEVEL MEASUREMENTS

The results of the signal level measurements in the two floors “E” and

4. CAPACITY REQUIREMENTS

4.1. TRU Requirements

We expect a number of Wataniya personnel of about 400 people. If we assume

that the expected traffic intensity will be 30 mErlang/user and only 100 SIM will be
used, the total traffic requirements will be around 3 Erlang. Making use of Erlang
B Law leads to a capacity of 2 TRUs maximum indoors.

4.2. Frequency Planning Issues

As we use only 2 TRUs, the first TRU will handle the BCCH and 7 TCH and
second one the TCH channels only. In terms of frequency assignment, we should
stick to the same rule as proposed in Bab Ezzouar MSC premises. That is to say :

A) Minimum 2 Channel-spacing between macro layer on the roof top and each
BCCH/TCH channel selected on the indoor sectors
B) Once the indoor channels have been assigned, these have to be included
manually in the AFP for macrocell frequency assignment of the MSC
neighbours to avoid co-channel interference.

The position of the Aurassi Hotel and the surrounding sites are shown in following

5. DETAILED DESIGN
The following is the detailed design based upon our site survey (Sabrina &
Hatem) inside the premises of the Aurassi hotel. The design is based upon our
perception of indoor coverage from previous projects regarding coverage extent
for a given EiRP (Pout + Antenna Gain – Feeder and Connectors Loss). We
believe that RxLev will be higher that -75 dBm as the antennas used are panel 5
dBi antennas.

5.2. VIP ROOM

The VIP room is connected to the Conference Room and restaurant via the stairs.
There is no space or location where to place the Micro-BTS except if we put it
outdoors. The RBS2308 dedicated to the VIP room will be pillar-mounted in front
of the VIP room. Great caution has to be given regarding frequency planning, as
we might be interfered by outdoor macro sites from neighbourhood.

5.3. Night Club (Floor B)

The night club design is straightforward, as there is one option that should provide
coverage to the whole dancing podium. Again, one dedicated RBS2308 will be
installed as mentioned in the drawing below.

6. CONCLUSION
The Aurassi indoor design is straightforward because :

a) We already know that these indoor locations have capacity issues and therefore
dedicated pico/microcell design is an obvious matter

b) Coverage provided by the macro layer will never be able to reach deep indoor
locations unless all the expected sites are on air. No repeater is to be used because
Wataniya wants to leverage the macro sites and keep them for outdoor use only.

As the indoor rollout is a fast one we do not think we will have time to do measurements
when the pico-cells have been installed. We are quite confident, though, that the design
is a comfortable indoor solution that will provide both coverage and capacity. However,
for the event of the 24th, especially if more SIMs will be tested, we need to upgrade the
TRUs from 2 to 4 per microcell.
