Note Regarding interdependency with OS and Browser


CRM portal (http://crm.edc.bsnl.co.in) can only be fully functional through Internet Explorer (IE)
Browsers.
Following Scenarios has been tested to be working. Please use Preferable Browsers for best
performance.

1) Windows XP withBrowsers IE6/ IE7/IE8


(Preferably IE8)
2) Windows Vista with Browsers IE7/IE8
(Preferably IE8)
3) Windows 7 with Browsers IE8/IE9/IE10/IE11 (Preferably IE8)
4) Windows 8 with Browsers IE10/IE11
(Preferably IE10)
5) Windows 8.1 with IE11
(Only IE11)
6)Windows 10 with IE11
(Not Microsoft Edge Browser)

CRM & Clarity Common Settings


(i) Appending DNS Suffix
Go to LAN (Right Click) Properties Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IPv4) Click
Properties Click Advanced Click DNS Tab Select Append these DNS suffixes (in
order) Click Add Enter edc.bsnl.co.in Click Add

(ii) Host Entries at Client PC


(a) Go to run by pressing Windows Key + R Type C:\Windows\System32
System32\Drivers\etc\
in the run window
Press Enter Copy hosts file to desktop Open it with
Notepad/WordPad Copy following two lines and append at the end of host file.

(b) Save it

crm.edc.bsnl.co.in

Paste the hosts at original location from where it was copied.

(iii) Checking Services Status


Go to run by pressing Windows Key + R

Type services.msc

Enter.

Select the services by name Computer Browser and DNS Client Select the
Startup Type as Automatic
Automatic for both the above service names and start the service by
clicking Start

(iv) Browser Settings (Internet Explorer)


a. Open Internet Explorer Browser Go to Tools Internet Options Select
Security Tab Select Local Intranet Select Custom level Under Reset
to Field Select Low Click Reset Button Click Yes in the pop up window
Click OK.

b. Select Trusted sites Select Sites Add following two URLs under Add this
website to the zone field as shown in screen shot. (Uncheck Require server
verification (https:))

Repeat the process as mentioned in point (a) above by selecting Trusted Sites.

d.

Apply the settings and close Internet Explorer (IE) Browser.

(v) Disabling TCP Auto Tuning (Only for Windows-8 onwards)


Open command prompt (cmd.exe) in Run as administrator mode (This is important,
otherwise the command will not run successfully). Now execute following command by
typing at the command prompt and pressing enter

netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled


Note:-This step is required only for Windows -8/8.1/10.

(vi)

Adding bsnl.co.in in Compatibility View settings of browser


a. In the Menu bar of browser Click Tools->Compatibility View Settings.
b. In Compatibility View Settings Window, type bsnl.co.in in the box provided. Then Click
Add button.
Now close the Compatibility View Settings Window.

CRM Settings
(i) Complete Common Settings for both CRM & Clarity mentioned at point no 1.2.
(ii) To access CRM application of CDR, open a new window in IE browser and type
http://crm.edc.bsnl.co.in.
(iii) Then login through the credentials allotted and accept all installation prompt appear
as pop up for Siebel application. This has to be run once for first time after browser
settings.Screen shot is shown below.

Clarity Settings
Clarity Application used in CDR project depends on Java platform being used in the PC. So Java
Runtime Environment (JRE) should be installed in the PC. Install Java (Only JRE, not the
complete JDK) version as supported by your OS. Then follow the steps below 1. Complete Common Settings for both CRM & Clarity mentioned at point no 1.2.
2. Go to My Computer > Properties > Advanced Properties > Environment Variable
In Environment Variable Window, Click New button, just below the User Variables box. Enter
the following values (exactly as mentioned; you may copy & paste from here) and press OK.

Then restart the PC.

3. Appropriate Java Run Time Environment (JRE) version needs to be installed at the user system
depending upon Operating System installed in it. With the environment variable entered as
described in earlier steps you may try newer version of Java (Such as Java 7 or 8). Following are
the Java Versions for various Operating Systems
(i)

For Windows XP Install Java Version 1.5 (i.e. J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11)
as shown below through screen shots.
Note: -With higher version of java other than mentioned above you may get error
messages at login page. Most of the problems in Clarity are due to inappropriate version of
Java installed.

(ii) For Windows Vista/7/8/8.1/10 Install Java Version 1.6 (i.e. Java 6 Update 10) as
shown below through screen shots.
Note : With the environment variable entered as described in earlier steps you may try
newer version of Java (Such as Java 7 or 8).

4. Now you need to enter exception for clarity in Java settings from control panel. Go to Control
Panel -> Programs -> Java -> Click Security tab -> Click Edit Site List -> Click Add in new
window -> Write http://clarity.edc.bsnl.co.in in the space provided. Click OK, OK.
