SOCIAL ACTION PROJECT

PRESS RELEASE
YOUNG PEOPLE FROM CANTERBURY ARE RAISING
MONEY AND ATTENTION FOR CATCHING LIVES
On Saturday 13th August, twelve young people participating in the National
Citizen Service (NCS) in Canterbury will be undertaking a Football Fun Day for
Catching Lives at Aylesham Welfare and Leisure Centre.

Our group was inspired by the plight of homeless people and rough sleepers
around the Canterbury area. There are already 1706 homeless 16-24 year olds
just in and around Canterbury, and Catching Lives does important work helping
them and others. In addition, sport events have always had close ties with the
community and charitable courses, and we wanted to continue that tradition.

We invite the public to support the project by coming to the event and
purchasing the goods and services on offer, such as baked food and a tombola as
well as donating either money or items of food and clothes. All the funds raised
will be used to buy food and goods that Catching Lives needs, such as sleeping
bags and clothes.

NCS provides a fantastic opportunity for local teenagers to get involved in the
countrys fastest growing youth programme, helping NCS achieve its mission of a
more cohesive, engaged and responsible society.

NCS is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity open to all 15 and 17 year olds across

England and Northern Ireland. It is a unique two to four week full-time
programme focused around fun and discovery, with participants volunteering at
least 60 hours to a community project they create to address an issue important
to them.

The programme is designed to create a more cohesive society by mixing young

teenagers from a wide variety of backgrounds, while supporting their transition
into adulthood by enabling them to develop essential skills for work and life.

NCS also empowers young people to come together to create and deliver a
community project of their choice, addressing a local issue for the benefit of
others.

Millions of hours have already been volunteered by tens of thousands of NCS

graduates to communities across England and Northern Ireland since 2011.

Zebedee Newbury, taking part in the programme as part of the team, said,
Taking part in NCS has been life changing and amazing. We really hope that the
public will support us by attending our Football Fun Day and donating to Catching
Lives.
