Course Outcome(s)
CO1: To understand the concept of stress-strain
relationships of different materials.
PART- A (5 x 2 = 10)
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
Part B
1. An elastic rod 25 mm is diameter, 200 mm long extends by 0.25 mm under a tensile
load of 40 kN. Find the intensity of stress, the strain and the elastic modulus for the
materials of the rod. (4)
2. A hollow cylinder 1.5 m long has an outside diameter of 45 mm and inside diameter of
25 mm. if the cylinder is carrying load of 20 kN, find the stress in the cylinder. Also find
the deformation of the cylinder. Take E = 100 GPa ( 1 Pa = 1 N/m 2). (4)
3. The following date refer a mild steel specimen tested in laboratory
Dia meter of the specimen = 25 mm
Length of the specimen = 300 mm
Extensions under a load 15 kN = 0.045 mm
Load at yield point = 127.65 kN
At maximum load = 208.60 kN
Length of specimen after failure = 375mm
Determine: (i) Youngs modulus (ii) Yield strength (iii) Ultimate stress and (iv)
percentage elongation. (12)
