PETALING JAYA: Scomi Engineering Bhds (Scomi or Scomi Engineering) monorail
project in Mumbai, Mumbai Monorail, continues on schedule. To fast track the

Rawang for progress meetings.
MMRDA was represented by Mr Sanjay Khandare, Additional Metropolitan
Commissioner and Mrs K Vijaya Lakshmi, Chief of Transport and Communication
Division.
We are committed to complete the 2nd phase of the Mumbai Monorail by end of this
year. Hence we are working very closely with Scomi and its consortium partner
Larsen & Toubro Limited. We are happy with the progress of the civil works and we
are sure Scomi will deliver on the rolling stock, the systems as well as all the
integration works, said Mr Khandare.
Mr Khandare and Mrs Vijayalakshmi are in Malaysia to discuss on the progressive
delivery of the balance rolling stock for the project as well as project scheduling
including commencement of trials for the Phase 2.

of Mumbai. Phase 2 is anticipated to quadruple the daily ridership on the monorail

section once it is commissioned, continued Mr Khandare.
Phase 1, which is being managed and operated by Scomi and its partner, is
successfully in operations for the last two and a half years. We know Scomis ability
to deliver on the project and we are working very closely with them to ensure we
continue on-track, said Mrs Vijaya Lakshmi who has been involved with the monorail
project since its commencement in 2008.
The Mumbai Monorail Project was awarded to the Larsen & Toubro and Scomi
Engineering consortium (LTSE) in November 2008 with a project value of RS2,460
crore (approximately USD420million). Project works on the 19.68 km alignment
commenced in early 2009. Phase 1, which is 8.92km, commenced operations on 2nd
February 2014 and has carried over 13.1million passengers to date. On the
northmost station, which connects to a major suburban railway line, had exceeded
the forecasted Year 2031 peak hour ridership in just the first year of operations.
Phase 2, which is 10.76km, is the higher ridership section.
Scomi has recently been awarded additional works for its Line 17 Gold So Paulo
monorail project in Brazil worth RM504.6million. Scomi has taken on these additional
scopes to fast track the project to completion. Further, in recognition of Scomis
commitment to the development of the Brazilian urban transport infrastructure, the
So Paulo state government has entered into a partnership with Scomi to set up a
R$50million facility, for the manufacture of monorail trains, including rolling stock
and bogies.
Scomis order book currently stands at RM2.1billion.
