1. Describe project integration management in your own words.

How does
project integration managemen relate to the project life cycle, stakeholders,
and the other project management knowledge areas?
Project integration management means tying together all of the other
aspects involved in a project to make it a success. Integration management
relates to the project life cycle in that it is done in all of the project life cycle
phases. As the project progresses, integration management becomes more
focused. Integration management relates to stakeholders because it requires
the project manager to know all of the project stakeholders, to know their
interests and concerns about the project, and to manage relationships with
them. Integration management pulls together information from all of the
other knowledge areas.
2. Describe options that organizations have for selecting projects that align
with their mission or strategy, and describe how each might work differently
in the selection of IT projects.
Project teams can use various types of software to assist in project
integration management. Project teams can create documents with wordprocessing software, give presentations with presentation software, track
information with spreadsheets, databases, or customized software, and
transmit information using various types of communication software.
3. Summarize key work involved in each of the six processes for project
integration management.
Project integration management includes the following processes:
Developing the project charter involves working with stakeholders to create
the document that formally authorizes a project. Project charters can have
different formats, but they should include basic project information and
signatures of key stakeholders.
Developing the project management plan involves coordinating all planning
efforts to create a consistent, coherent documentthe project management
plan. The main purpose of project plans is to facilitate action.
Directing and managing project execution involves carrying out the project
plans by performing the activities included in it. Project plan execution should
require the majority of a projects budget.
Monitoring and controlling project work is needed to meet the performance
objectives of the project. The project team should continuously monitor
project performance to assess the overall health of the project.

Performing integrated change control involves coordinating changes that

affect the projects deliverables and organizational process assets. A change
control system often includes a change control board (CCB), configuration
management, and a process for communicating changes.
Closing the project or phase involves finalizing all project or phase
activities. It is important to follow good procedures to ensure that all project
activities are completed and that the project sponsor accepts delivery of the
final products, services, or results of the project.

Either from your own experience or by searching the Internet, describe a wellplanned and executed project. Describe a disastrous project. What were some
of the main differences between these projects?
A well planned project is one that meets or exceeds its cost, scope and
time. An example of a well planned project starts with a kickoff meeting to
bolster the morale of the team as well as to lay out the scheduled plans to
enable the project to come into fruition. Undoubtedly, there may be hinders
or complex changes that may deviate the project from any of its constraints
even with planning. It is an important skill to expect such things and
negotiations with the sponsors or team members to come to a compromise in
an organized manner. Success also comes when all of the team members are
doing the best of their abilities to complete the project with the given
resources alloted and it is the responsibility of the project manager to do so.
On the other hand, disastrous projects can happen if order and
communication is not kept. For example, a bad project manager may not
properly communicate certain problems or requirements to its appropriate
team member or even the sponsor. Failed projects can also happen if the
team is not competent enough or not putting enough effort towards the goal.
This can often lead to more time, money or diminished overall quality of the
project.
5.
Discuss the importance of following a well-integrated change control process
on information technology. What do you think of the suggestions made in this
chapter? Think of three additional suggestions for integrated change control
on information technology projects.
Its important to follow a good integrated change control process on
information technology projects to avoid scope creep, incompatibility
problems, and to makeeffective use of resources and new technologies.
