The World of Lufthansa

Flight Training

Our foundation
More than 50 years of experience in initial and advanced
training of cabin and cockpit crews form the foundation
on which we build and which helps us to continuously
enhance our services.
Since 1955 the flight attendant academy of Lufthansa
German Airlines has been preparing service professionals
for their onboard duties on the airlines aircraft. The
training of future pilots has been based at the Bremen
flight academy since 1956.

Our background

Innovation. We constantly come up with new methods

to make the training process even more efficient and
thus more cost-effective for you and your crews. A case
in point: our Learning Management System reduces the
amount of classroom presence for future flight attendants
during initial training a method that shortens the course
length and thus reduces your costs noticeably.
Efficiency. By providing surroundings that promote
concentration as well as a sophisticated mix of training
methods we are able to condense the training contents
in order to qualify your crews fast and efficiently while
ensuring lasting results.

In 1997 we became a legally distinct, economically

autonomous one-hundred per cent subsidiary of the
Lufthansa group, and all initial and advanced trainings
for Lufthansa flight crews have since then been concentrated under the same roof. Our training competence is
at the disposal of all airlines.

Flexibility. We are glad to provide our services also when

you decide to book a training course at short notice. No
matter whether your training needs are simple or a large
amount of employees needs to be qualified we provide
prompt and flexible solutions. If desired, we are happy
to bring our training courses to a location of your choice
equipped with the necessary resources.

Our quality

Everything under the same roof. From classrooms to

pool facilities: short distances facilitate learning in our
Frankfurt Training Center where we provide everything
you need for optimal aviation training.

Today Lufthansa Flight Training is one of the leading

European training providers for flight crews. In Frankfurt
as well as in Munich we offer all license-relevant and
legally required safety and service trainings for cockpit
and cabin crews.
Designed to fit the most diverse professional requirements,
Lufthansa Flight Training can offer you an extensive
training portfolio. Our training methods are based on the
latest scientific principles and guarantee a high degree
of practical relevance and quality.
Decisive. Whether it comes to pilot decisions or the
diplomatic skills of a flight attendant: every decision made
on board has an economic impact on the airline.

Our strengths
Individuality. We focus on your requests and ideas. Your
training success is our highest priority. Clearly defined
tasks, transparency and training courses conceived
to exactly fit your needs assure the consistent quality of
all our products.

Where to find us
Both the Lufthansa Flight Training Center Frankfurt and
the Lufthansa Flight Training Center Munich are strategically located in the immediate vicinity of the international
hubs Frankfurt Rhein-Main Airport and Munich Airport,
respectively. The conditions for your crews are ideal:
they can easily reach both sites either by plane or train,
car or public transportation. We gladly offer advice and
support with your flight and hotel reservations.

Comprehensive Our Training Portfolio

1/2

Whether service, emergency or human factors training

in our ample training space we are able to create all
different types of scenarios. More than 9.000 m offer
more than enough space to train realistically on full-scale
simulators and to convey theoretical knowledge in a
modern learning environment.

Real Fire Fighting Trainer (RFFT)

Just in case: In our TV-certified Real Fire Fighting
Trainer course participants learn to extinguish burning
solids, liquids and gases fast, safely and effectively.

Cabin Emergency Evacuation Training (CEET)

The choice is yours: Our CEET portfolio includes many
aircraft types from A300 to A380 and from B737 to B747.
The CEETs can be used for evacuation, door and slide
trainings. Some of them feature full motion operation
and virtual slides. In order to ensure realistic conditions
smoke and fire can be simulated in various locations
inside the CEETs.
Ditching drills in the pool
Lets jump straight in: The Lufthansa Flight Training
Center Frankfurt provides your crews with a heated pool
(25 m x 15 m) for ditching drills and diving practice.
The respective slides of A300, A320, A340 and B747
aircraft as well as life rafts for 6 10 persons are available
for evacuation drills and thus there is no need for timeconsuming journeys to public pools another plus that
assures more cost-effective crew training.

Well positioned: Our lecture rooms are equipped with

modern and comprehensive training devices including
PCs, projectors, screens and media managers. Flip
charts, magnetic strips and pin boards are also part
of the professional features.
Healthy food
Good thinking: The extensive selection of fresh and light
foods available at our cafeteria helps to bolster the training
effect by taking care of the physiological aspects of
learning. Our coffee bar Bartesse satisfies coffee cravings
and provides snacks in between meals.
CBT/WBT programs
Thought through: CBT/WBT programs specially designed to fit learning goals and to suit course participants
are available for both initial and advanced trainings.
Our multi-media learning concept assures that trainees
are absorbed into studying the subject matter relevant
for their work on board with particular efficiency and
practical orientation. We are pleased to design concepts
according to your particular needs.

Virtual slides

Service training

Innovative: Virtual slides can simulate numerous scenarios

outside the aircraft. Regular procedures on the ground as
well as different emergency situations can be depicted.
Training success is guaranteed as everyone visualizes
situations in exactly the same way.

Coffee or tea? Service mock-ups include a complete

cabin replica and a real aircraft galley. They are the ideal
setting for training realistic service sequences and on
board guest relations through role play.
Experimenting with de facto emergency equipment

Learning Management System

Virtual learning: Our Learning Management System allows
already today for certain specially adapted learning units
to be properly conveyed online. We make sure that plenty
of communication takes place between trainer and
trainees by providing a virtual network.
Door Trainer
Skill comes with practice: The training facilities include
seven different types of door trainers. They ensure that
crew members open and close aircraft doors with
confidence and routine.

Touch please! During hands-on trainings crew members

can try out different emergency equipment devices. Life
vests, oxygen masks, fire extinguishers, and many others
are available.
Pilot Incapacitation Trainer
Just know how! Pilot Incapacitation Trainers are available
for A320, A340, B737 and B747 aircraft. This is where
we practice the operation of cockpit seats and the
extraction of an incapacitated cockpit crew member from
his seat.

Leadership Competence Training 1

The goal of our Leadership-Competence-Development
range of trainings is to transmit leadership skills to First
Officers on their way to becoming Captains. The threeday LCC1-Training is the first module of the LCC training
range. Participants will learn about the significance of
behavioral training from the Human Factors point of view
as well as the basics of human behavior in general.
Furthermore, we will study the fundamental aspects of
leadership behavior, particularities to team guidance

and the significance of verbal and non-verbal communication within the leadership process. After a consultant
delivers a speech on poise and self-assurance (etiquette,
color and style consultation) we will explain and apply the
model of situational leadership. After discussing theoretical aspects each participant will have the possibility
of experimenting in front of a camera followed by group
feedback.

Leadership Competence Training 2

The goal of our Leadership-Competence-Development
range of seminars is to transmit leadership skills
to First Officers on their way to becoming Captains.
The two-day LCC2-Training is the second module of the
LCC training range.
Participants will learn about the change in role of the
First Officer position during the last decades and
exchange their own experiences. Furthermore, each
participant will prepare a presentation on his experiences

with other areas/interfaces. This exchange of experiences

will provide all participants with important tips on how
to approach interfaces during their daily work and how
to discuss the leadership role outside the cockpit.
Productive argumentation techniques will be trained.
The participants will then learn how to handle conflicts
productively in their future position as a leader. Finally
the participants factual and social competence will be
tested with the help of a case study.

Leadership Competence Training 3

The goal of our Leadership-Competence-Development
range of trainings is to transmit leadership skills to First
Officers on their way to becoming captains. The twoday LCC3-Training is the third module of the LCC training
range. At the core of the training is the simulation game
Aqua Futura. This game will give participants the
possibility to experience and experiment leadership in
complex and dynamic situations inside a soft skill leadership simulator specifically developed for this training.
Three different teams cooperate but each team has
to accomplish its own goals while respecting the overall
objective. In order to teach participants differing perspec-

tives of leadership they will have the possibility to

assume different roles within the team. The simulation
will be complemented and completed by briefings and
debriefings during the plenum phases as well as by
theoretical input and practical training. Participants will
particularly reflect on how to deal with high workloads,
try out structured argumentation and find solutions
to unfair dialectic. A further emphasis of the seminar is
on situational awareness. Here participants will reflect
their own situational perception and get to know
a behavioral model that can help them in complex
situations, especially during multi-layered FOR-DEC
decision processes.

The LCC 4 module focuses on strengthening personal
competence, especially in regard to the expanded
responsibility of the SFO position. Participants will reflect
their own leadership behavior, especially when dealing

with conflicts, but also in relation to employee motivation.

Everyone will have the possibility to try out behavioral
patterns in spontaneous role play and practical exercises
in order to apply the newly acquired knowledge. Practical
information on the legal position of the SFO, on his

LH 3344 Evacuation after Smoke in Cabin

This film reports an actual incident involving massive
smoke development on board. It authentically describes
the emergency communication between cabin and
cockpit crew, ground operations, tower and passengers.
Without concrete error indications on the cockpit
instruments or visual contact with the cabin the cockpit
crew had to make decisions based purely on cabin crew
reports. The situation was further complicated by an
erupting panic among the passengers.

The re-enacted scenes of the film are commented by

the originally involved crew. In the end the aircraft is
evacuated via emergency slides.
The experience report impressively documents how
problems add up and demonstrates the difficulties and
the pressure to act often encountered by aircraft crews
when emergency procedures have to be applied.

Ground Based Emergency Services at Aerodromes

In this film a distress incident at Frankfurt/Main Airport
is simulated. An airplane flying from Munich to New
York has to perform an emergency landing at Frankfurt
airport after smoke develops in the cabin. The film
shows the adequate structure and procedures of the
emergency communication between cockpit and cabin
crew as well as between cockpit crew and air traffic
control and the various emergency services on the
ground. The communication is based on ICAO rules
and JAR OPS 1 regulations.

services are called into action. The action proceeds
smoothly and quickly. As passengers and crew are
being evacuated via escape slides, rescue and first aid
procedures for the injured and their immediate transport
to a medical facility are demonstrated.
The film imparts valuable background knowledge on
preparations as well as supporting and other measures
taken on the ground in case of an announced emergency
landing of a commercial aircraft.

30 Second Review
This video illustrates the elements of the so-called 30
Second Review, a form of mental training that must
be performed prior to each take-off and each landing.
The videos intention is to raise cabin crew members
awareness for the necessity of observing safety
procedures at all times.
Statistics show that approximately 80% of all aircraft
accidents occur during take-off, approach or landing.
As most accidents happen without prior warning the
sudden transition from routine to emergency can
considerably limit logical thinking and the effectiveness
of reactions.

a flight attendant appears to be performing her landing

preparations. However, her thoughts actually revolve
around her private life rather than around the imminent
landing. This scene ends with authentic pictures of
aircraft accidents. The flight attendants thoughts are
illustrated by switching from color to black-and-white
sequences.
During the second part the flight attendant concentrates
on the 30 Second Review and while mentally preparing for the landing presents the most important review
items.

The video shows a case scenario. During the first part
