Review of Literature Consulted

A good deal of research has been carried out in relation to the meaning of ozone and the
southern hemisphere ozone hole (Bishop, et al., 1992; Douglas, Newman & Solomon, 2014;
Solomon, 1988). Most of such work have relied on information not only obtained from the
NASA website but also supported by other sources (Thompson, et al., 2003).
Much work in the area of stratosphere exploration by NASA has availed statistical data
necessary for the research. Previous research such as Solomon (1988) were based on such data.
Much work in the area, just like the present research, aim to explain what is meant by the
southern hemisphere ozone as well as indicates the season of the year in which damage occurs
(Douglas, Newman & Solomon, 2014). Research shows that the reasons as to why the depletion
of the ozone hole above the Antarctica is more as opposed to other regions is also explained
(Solomon, 1988).
Approaches of measurement of ozone layer thickness and ozone hole size have been
described in previous literature (Bishop, et al., 1992; Douglas, Newman & Solomon, 2014;
Stolarski & Bishop, 1992). Bishop et al (1992) highlights the various methods in which data
concerning the ozone are obtained. Analysis of the effects of the trends of the Ozone hole
requires substantive review of literature (Douglass, et al., 2014). It has been observed that ozone
depletion has a significant effects on agricultural activities (Ristaino & Thomas, 1997).
Previous research has confirmed evidence that reference to ozone layer highlights on its
importance in regulating Ultra Violet rays (Weatherhead & Andersen, 2006). Fredrick et al
(1989) agree that the concept of the suns UV rays and their spectrum is complex. The
researchers dwell on the wavelengths and classifications of UV light as well as the effects on the
surface of the Earth in their study of the spectrum (Frederick, et al., 1989).

The questions regarding the future of ozone layer remains points of concern to
researchers. Previous research recommend determination of measures to address the problem
(Newman, et al., 2006). There is need to investigate possible future changes based on research
highlights from study of the Antactic ozone.
This research aims to analyze the trends in the ozone layer and thus make a prediction
about the possible future as recommended in literature (Newman, et al., 2006). The research is a
response to calls for Scientists to have a role to play in saving the ozone layer (Shea, 1988).
