Introduction
Students need to be able to analyze how the due process is expressed in the 5th
and 14th amendment. Students must be able to define due process, 5th
amendment, and 14th amendment by the end of the lesson. It is very important
know your rights, if you have to testify in court about a situation.

Learners
The grade level that will be introduced to the lesson will be 9th grade. The
subject area being presented is Social Studies (American Government).
Students should already know some of the amendments, such as the 1st,
2nd, 4th, 26th, and 23rd.

Curriculum Standards
SSCG6: The student will demonstrate knowledge of civil liberties and civil rights.

B. Analyze due process law expressed in the 5th and 14th


amendment.

Process
1. As a warm-up, students will define due process, 5th, and 14th
amendments into their own words. Students will need to recognize the
amendments with the following links below. It is recommended that students
memorize both amendments and practice them over the next week.
2. Students should be able to write both amendments on paper after
memorizing the text.

3. Students will present their definitions to the class. There will be no right or
wrong answers.

Conclusion
Students should be able to understand the due process law by definition and
how it connects to the 5th and 14th amendments. Students should be able
to define the meaning of the 5th and 14th amendment and know its
purpose. Students should know all 27 amendments by the end of the course.
