LIS 515

I believe the elements that I would use or like to see in a catalog record for a DVD based
on the description needs for a user are the following:
300 Physical description
490/820 Series
511 ob Narrated by
546 Language notes
For the access I believe the following elements are important:
521 Audience
520 Summary notes. Chapter 9 mentions this, that it's very important and should always be
present for non print materials so users are aware of the information since they cannot browse
information as they do with print items.
6xx Field
655 Genre subject heading. Chapter 9 highlighted this because this field assist teachers to find
what genre they need depending on their subject area.
These fields are the most important for me but I believe that the others are important to
to have. I like the less is more type of way but others may want to know a lot of information
about the record. As a teacher the fields I presented would be the most important and the
Librarian could show the teacher the MARC Record and point out what fields to look for if they
are truly interested in selecting the DVD.
