ASSESSMENT,PLANNINGANDINSTRUCTION
Christycreatedlessonsandactivitiesthatmatchedtheacademicabilityandattentionspanofyounglearners.
Theywerealwaysplannedinadvance.AllofChristyslessonsandactivitieswereconsistentwiththeOntario
curriculumexpectationsandconnectedtovariouslearningareas(e.g.,Language,Mathematics,Scienceand
Technology,TheArts).Throughout,Christysinstruction,sheencouragesthestudentstoquestion,explaintheir
thinkingandalwaysdotheirbest.Sheisveryconscientiousoftheselfesteemofyoungchildrenandconstantly
praisesstudentswhoarewillingtoattemptaspecificactivity.Shehasdemonstratedanunderstandingofthe
learningneedsofKindergartenstudentsandisabletodeliverlessonsthatareappropriatetothisagegroup.She
hasparticipatedincollaborativeplanningwiththeDesignatedEarlyChildhoodEducatorandmyself(FullDay
KindergartenTeacher)onaregularbasis.Christyalsocontributedtotheassessmentofstudentslearning
throughobservationanddocumentation.UsingtheiPadandSeeSawapp,Christytookphotos/videos,wrote
anecdotalnotesandcollectedsamplesofstudentswork.ThepracticumblockransmoothlythankstoChristys
efforts.

CLASSROOMMANAGEMENT
Christyscaringandcalmmanner,alongwithherpatienceandrespectfulnature,helpedhertocreateapositive
learningenvironmentandagoodrapportwithstudents.Christywasabletoutilizeexistingclassroomrulesand
wasabletodevelopothersasrequired.Inordertofacilitatesmoothtransitionfromoneactivitytoanother,
Christyensuredthatmaterialswerealwaysorganizedandpreparedaheadoftime.Sheconsistentlysetout
expectationsforstudentbehaviourthatwereclear,positiveandencouraging.Sheusedappropriatestrategiesfor
controllingandaddressingstudentbehavioursthatdemonstratedsensitivityandrespectfortheindividual
learningneedsofstudents.Byusingpraisetoencouragepositivebehaviours,makinguseofvariousattention
signalsandassigningroles,Christydemonstratedgrowthandeffectivenessinengaging,motivatingand
managingstudents.

UNDERSTANDINGCURRICULUMANDTHELEARNER
ChristyhasagoodknowledgeandunderstandingoftheMinistryguidelinesandOntariocurriculum,specifically
TheFullDayEarlyLearningKindergartenProgram.Shehasdevelopedactivitiesthataretailoredtotheabilities
ofthestudentswithintherequiredcurriculumexpectations.Tosupportandaccommodatethediverselearnersin
theclassroom,Christyvariedherteachingstrategiesinordertocreateexcitingplaybasedactivitiesforthe
studentstolearn,exploreandenjoy.Christywouldoftenbaseheractivitiesaroundstudentsinterests.She
incorporatedsongs,wholegroupandsmallgroupopportunities,onetooneconferencing,gamesandavarietyof
manipulativestoengageandsupportthestudents.Christyalsousedtechnologyasaprimeteachingtoolat
everyopportunity,includingtheuseoftheSmartBoard/SmartNotebook,iPadsandrelevantwebsites(e.g.,
BookFlixandGoNoodle).Sheprovidedanassortmentofvisualaidstosupportstudentlearning.

Christycreatedanatmosphereofmutualrespectandcaringintheclassroombytreatingallstudentswith
respectandcare.Shecontinuallyencouragedandmodeledrespectofeachothersdifferences.Overall,her
warmpersonality,friendlydispositionandgenuineinterestinthechildrenenabledhertodevelopapositive
rapportwithallstudents.Shewassensitivetotheneedsofarangeofabilities(JuniorKindergarten/Senior
Kindergarten),includingstudentswithspecialneeds(e.g.,Autism,DiGeorgesyndrome)andEnglishlanguage
learners.Christyplannedherlessonstoensurethesuccessofstudents,usingavarietyofteachingstrategiesto
accommodatethedifferentlearningstylesandskillsofthestudents.ItwasobviousthatChristyappreciatedthe
uniqueandinterestingqualitiesofeachyoungchild.ShecelebratedthesuccessesofallKindergartenstudents.

PROFESSIONALISM
Christypresentedahighlyprofessionalmanneratalltimeswithintheclassroomandschoolenvironment.She
regularlyarrivedatschoolwellbeforethebeginningofclasstoallowampletimeforpreparationoflesson
resourcesandclassroomsetup.Shetookpartinyardduty,greetinganddismissingstudentsandother
professionalduties.Christyworkswellindependentlyandaspartofateam.Sheworkedcloselyandeffectively
inthisteamteachingenvironment(alongsidetheFullDayKindergartenTeacher,DesignatedEarlyChildhood
Educator).Christyisrespectfultowardstudentsandcolleagues,andinteractspositivelywithallstaffinthe
school.Christydemonstratedflexibilityandadaptability,asshewillinglyacceptedadviceandsharedherideas
andlearningexperienceswithothers.Shealsodisplayedgreatflexibilityinadaptingtothedemandsofavery
busyclassroom.

INVOLVEMENTINSCHOOL/COMMUNITYLIFE
Christydevelopedpositiverelationshipswithstaffandstudentsinawidevarietyofsettingswithintheschool.
Shemadeherselfavailabletothemanydifferentinitiatives.SheparticipatedinourMarchstaffmeetingandtwo
fulldaysofprofessionaldevelopmentsessionsrelatedtoMathandtheTeachingLearningCycle(TLC).Christy
wasconscientioustoperformmorning,recessandlunchdutywithme.Theparentsofourclassrecognized
Christyasateachingpartnerforourgroupandshecommunicatedwellwiththem(e.g.,writingaletterhometo
familiesregardingourMovieTheatreDramaticPlayCentre).Christyattendedacoupleparentteacher
interviewsandnotedvariousinterviewingstrategies.Shealsovolunteeredtohelpwithourschool'sStudent
GoverningCouncilArtsCabinet(forIntermediatestudentsGrade7&8)thatmetafewtimesaweekat
morningandlunchrecesses.

ADDITIONALCOMMENTS
ChristyhadaverysuccessfulteachingblockinFullDayKindergarten.Everyday,shewasapleasantand
valuableadditiontotheclassroomcommunity.Shewasdedicatedanddevotedtothesuccessofalllearners.
Shepromotedasafeandnurturinglearningenvironment.Christyestablishedherroleasateacherandbuilt
strongrelationshipswithstudents.Shewasconfidentandcomfortablewithmanyclassroomroutines.She
quicklytookontheresponsibilityofleadingtheMorningMessage,CommunityCircleandMysteryShow&
Tell.Throughouttheblock,Christywasalwaysopentoconstructiveadviceandsuggestions.Ienjoyedworking
withChristyasacollaborativeteamandbelievethatshewillbeavaluablememberofanyschoolstaff.Itwasmy
pleasurehostingChristyinourclassroomthisterm!
