Comparing zombies with vampires
I am choosing to compare Why vampires never die and My Zombie, Myself: Why
Modern Life Feels Rather Undead, because in todays society the two monsters of the time are
the zombie and the vampire. They are living dead and thats is an unnatural behavior for a human
so it draws us in. The vampire was brought back to life when the series twilight came out in
the theatres. This sparked the error of the vampire, but soon after society moved on from the
vampires only to take up zombies. The zombie error came to life when the series of the hit show
Walking dead was made. Although Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogans essay and Chuck
Klosterrmans essay both show human interest in their monsters, the difference lies in the
background of the essay, which bears examination/investigation/exploration because the different
types of monsters can represent different traits of different people.
As I started to read these essays I thought they may have sounded a bit the same. The
reason being is because of the style of the writing. In the essay My Zombie, Myself: Why
Modern Life Feels Rather Undead Klosterman tells the readers about how we as humans may
find a connection and find pleasure in the way zombies are. The Reason being because zombies
are creatures that keep coming until all are dead and sometimes in the world today people feel as
if they fight zombies in their everyday life so they find the pleasure in watching the show. As we
read the essay Why Vampires Never Die the authors, Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan

explain to readers that vampires may often make us feel some sort of feeling while watching
them. The authors explain how vampires connect the eternal ways of the human being. This
reason for the vampires being able to connect to the eternal emotions of the human being is
because over the past two hundred years from the beginning of the vampire the ways of the
monster have changed. Vampires have started to evolve more like humans and they are starting
to be able to feel emotion as in love and fear and hate.
Although these essays may have some similarities. They also have their
differences. In the essay My Zombie, Myself: Why Modern Life Feels Rather Undead we see
that the monster is a hideous creature that no one would ever want anything to do with.
Klosterman describes zombies as cant talk or think and their only job is to eat the brains of
human beings. As we read the story Why Vampires Never Die Toro and Hogan express that
vampires are a very different kind of monster. He states the vampire doesnt seek to obliterate
us, but instead offers a peculiar brand of blood alchemy. (37) Hogan and Toro show how
monsters can be very humane. They explain how vampires over the past couple of years have
evolved to the way of a humans. They have learned to feel emotions and things that are very unnatural for monsters to feel back in the day.
Society today has changed the way humans envision monsters. Vampires are one of the
modern monster because of the way they have evolved over centuries. They have evolved to be
able to fit in to the human ways of the world. They have become stronger and able to feel
emotions and such things. Although zombies have made a huge impact on the way we as humans
think of the word monster. Zombies are a fearful monster created by the human mind based off
of something that we are afraid might be able to happen to us one day. The zombie are a thought

of what could happen if a virus broke out on the human race and that is a very normal thing to
happen which makes humans more likely to be scared of the zombie.
