Team description
WaterAid international (WAi) was created in 2010 to support the development of our
global organisation and to facilitate global decision making, global standards and coordination of global activities. It owns the name and logo and is responsible for
establishing WaterAid member organisations in new countries. It comprises the
international board and a small secretariat. Barbara Frost acts as the Chief
Executive of WAi alongside her role as Chief Executive of WaterAid UK.
The Strategy Team are responsible for the development, implementation and review
of the Global Strategy, including assessing our global performance against the
Global Strategy for the various stakeholders. As part of this the team has an
oversight of the programme of work that forms the Enabling Framework.
Job purpose
The post holder will support WaterAids global approach to strategic and business
planning, performance assessment and reporting. These processes ensure that we
understand how we are contributing towards our global strategy and that WaterAid
member organisations and global functions work in an integrated way that
maximises effectiveness and impact. The role will support the continual improvement
of organisational performance.
The role will support the co-ordination and overview of WaterAids global Enabling
Framework. The Enabling Framework sets out the key enablers of the Global
Strategy and is a mechanism through which we will prioritise, focus and integrate
efforts at the global and local levels.
This role will lead the communication to embed the global strategy across the
organisation to ensure all WaterAid staff can align their local plans to the delivery of
the corporate strategy.

Job description

Accountabilities

Support the design and project management of the global strategy development
and implementation process, (across Global, Members and Country Programmes
Planning Processes) ensuring the linkages between other organisational
processes and projects are made.

Coordinate the implementation and embedding of the global framework for


assessing performance against WaterAids global strategy. Work with
stakeholders across the global organisation to ensure the Strategy team has
access to the right information at the right time.

Provide analysis on global performance and progress to report to boards and


other stakeholders.

Support the development and embedding of the Enabling Framework (WaterAids


global framework of key organisational effectiveness enablers of the Global
Strategy).

Maintain an overview of all change projects and programmes, providing analysis


to identify where there are overlaps, duplications, synergies and potential
conflicts and alignment with the Enabling Framework principles.

Provide analysis to support prioritisation and reporting across WaterAid members


and to the WaterAid international Board.

Support mid-term and end of strategy review of progress against the Global
Strategy to assess contribution to global change, identify achievements and
challenges, lessons learned and recommendations.

Maintain the Global Strategy Toolkit ensuring it is embedded in strategic planning


processes, including working with internal experts to ensure the toolkit can be
used to inform local plans and key deliverables.

Project manage internal staff engagement and consultation processes including


managing/running strategic seminars, and liaising with Internal Communications
to maintain on-going staff communication.

Provide support, advice and guidance as required on planning and performance


assessment.

Provide insight, research and analysis to strengthen the strategic and operational
planning processes.

Support lead facilitators in scoping, resourcing and delivering Board Seminars


and other events. Facilitate as required.

Person specification
Essential

Degree level education with post qualification experience in strategic planning,


analysis and project management

Job description

Ability to assimilate complex information and produce easily understandable and


clear analysis and reports
Experience of conducting qualitative and quantitative research in an
organisational setting
Ability to design process in a logical and pragmatic way to ensure effective
delivery
Strong communications skills (verbal and written), including presentations
Proven ability to multi task, and effectively prioritise and organise self and others
Experience of facilitation, including the tools and techniques to use across a
spectrum of audiences and cultures (in person and virtual)
Strong interpersonal and matrix management skills ability to build professional
relationships
Experience of working with, influencing and supporting senior leaders
Experience of co-ordinating the work and recruitment of volunteers and
consultants
Experience of monitoring a budget
Commitment to WaterAids values and a working style that reflects these.
Willingness and ability to travel internationally as required

Desirable
Experience of leading, managing and motivating others and driving change.
Proficient in languages e.g. French, Portuguese
Competent international facilitator
Experience of working in a federated organisation in strategy
development/implementation
Experience of managing a budget
