Justification
:
Afterworkingveryhardthroughouttheschoolyear,manystudentslosevaluablereading

disadvantagedyouthfellsignificantlybehindinreading(
TheImportanceofSummerReading:
PublicLibrarySummerReadingProgramsandLearning,2015).
Whencreatingsummerreadingprograms,itisalsoimportanttorememberthatallpeople
learndifferently.Therefore,itisimportanttobefamiliarwithboththebasiclearningstyles,as
wellasmultipleintelligenceswhencreatingservicesandworkingwithchildren.Learningstyles
andmultipleintelligencesarenotthesamething.Onewithastrongvisualintelligence,should
notbelimitedtosolelylisteningtoinformationinordertolearnit.Rather,itisimportanttobe
exposedtoavarietyofintelligencestosupportdevelopment.
Onecommonmisconception
aboutmultipleintelligencesisthatitmeansthesamethingaslearningstyles.Instead,multiple
intelligencesrepresentsdifferentintellectualabilities.Learningstyles,accordingtoHoward
Gardner,arethewaysinwhichanindividualapproachesarangeoftasks.Theyhavebeen
categorizedinanumberofdifferentwaysvisual,auditory,andkinesthetic,impulsiveand
reflective,rightbrainandleftbrain,etc.(

).Additionally,developinghandsonactivitiesforsummerreadingprogramswillbe
essentialtoasummerreadingprogram.AccordingtochildrensmanageratWichitaPublic

Additionally,WhittinghamandRickman(2015)statesthat,Studiesfromthelatetwentieth

Inconclusion,itisimperativethatsummerprogramsenticeallchildrentoparticipate.
However,becausewearefocusingonthosefamiliesfromlowersocioeconomicbackgrounds

Programswhichallowforstudentchoice,access,andhandsonactivitieswillencourage
