SAGEM DIESEL113
INJECTION
Fault finding - Introduction

13

This document introduces the diagnostic procedures applicable to all TPP EGR SAGEM S9W 700 engine
computers
The following are thus required to carry out fault finding on this system:
the Fault finding Technical Note,
the wiring diagram for the function on the vehicle concerned,
the tools listed in Special tooling required.

GENERAL APPROACH TO FAULT FINDING:

Use of one of the fault finding tools to identify the system fitted in the vehicle (reading the computer family, the
program no....).
Finding the Fault finding documents corresponding to the system identified.
Taking note of information contained in the introductory sections.
Reading the faults stored in the computer memory and using the "Fault interpretation" section of the documents.
Reminder: Each fault is interpreted for a particular type of storage (fault present, fault stored, fault present or
stored). The checks defined for handling each fault are therefore only to be performed if the fault shown by the fault
finding tool is interpreted in the document for its type of storage. The storage type should be considered when using
the fault finding tool following ignition switch-off and switch-on.
If a fault is interpreted when it is stated to be "stored", the conditions for application of the fault finding procedure
appear in the "NOTES" box. When these conditions are not satisfied, use the fault finding procedure to check the
circuit of the faulty part since the fault is no longer present on the vehicle. Follow the same procedure when a fault is
shown as "stored" by the fault finding tool but is only interpreted in the documentation for a "present" fault.
Perform the conformity check (appearance of possible incorrect operations not yet stated by the system's self
diagnosis procedure) and apply the relevant fault finding techniques according to results.
Validation of the repair (disappearance of the phenomenon reported by the customer).
Use of the fault finding strategy for each "Customer complaint " if the problem persists.

SAGEM DIESEL INJECTION

Fault finding - Introduction

13

In this new application, the, TPP EGR SAGEM S9W 700 EVOLUTION computer uses the TRANSVERSE
INSTRUMENT PANEL

THE FAULT WARNING LIGHTS are as follows:

A shared fault warning light for preheating/electronic faults.
A coolant temperature fault warning light controlled by the TPP EGR computer.

SPEED INFORMATION
The rev-counter is controlled by the TPP EGR computer applications, not by the alternator W terminal.

COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR

These two applications include a GCTE (centralised coolant temperature management) coolant temperature
sensor.

AIR CONDITIONING RELAY OUTPUT

The air conditioning compressor relay is activated (air conditioning authorised) by the computer, provided that the
correct coolant temperature conditions are met.
This is the role of a temperature switch on the other applications.

The preheating and cold start functions are controlled by the preheating unit.
For these reasons, actuator commands AC014, AC101, AC102 are not activated on this engine S9W 700
(preheating and cold start functions are controlled by the preheating unit).

SPECIAL TOOLING REQUIRED FOR OPERATIONS ON THE DIESEL INJECTION TTP EGR SAGEM SYSTEM:
Fault finding tools: NXR, CLIP and OPTIMA.
Multimeter.

Check that the 7.5A injector fuse in the passenger compartment connection unit has not blown.
Check the connection and condition of the connectors at the computer connector.
Check that the computer is correctly supplied:
Earth on track A3 of the black computer connector.
+ after ignition on track A4 of the black computer connector (test the 70A fuse in the engine compartment
connection unit + relay + after ignition).
Also check the engine earth.

Check that the diagnostic socket is correctly supplied:

Earth on track 6.
+ before ignition on track 16.
Check and ensure the continuity and insulation of the diagnostic socket/computer connection lines between:
black computer connector track A1
track 7 of the diagnostic socket

NOTES

The TTP EGR SAGEM computer only controls the EGR function and the preheating/
electronic fault warning light on this application.
The heater plugs are controlled by the preheating unit.

The inlet air heater preheats the S9W 700 engine.

This flamestart heating system comprises:
a preheating unit,
a solenoid valve for diesel injection,
an igniter (filament),
a coolant temperature sensor (with white connector),
a warning light on the instrument panel.
The warning light flashes when the coolant sensor circuit is faulty.
Check the continuity and insulation of the coolant sensor circuit between the sensor and the preheating unit
located in the engine compartment connection unit.
Check to see if the sensor circuit (or the sensor) is in short circuit (resistance at 300 ohms at 80C/3300 ohms
