Data Analyzer R2003.11

Introduction
As part of the Engineers Desktop, Data Analyzer provides the next generation of
integrated, cross domain, well operations, and design data analysis. This easy-to-use
application provides a powerful domain focused query tool for drilling and completions
engineers. It enables engineers to realize maximum value from all well information
collected. Data Analyzer provides the ability to easily build both simple and complex adhoc queries against drilling and completions data. These queries can be generated using
the same user-defined labels and data input structure familiar to the Engineers Desktop
Drilling applications.
Data Analyzer does not impose data selection restrictions or force the user to follow a
particular workflow. The full extent of the drilling and completions data set, within the
Engineers Data Model (EDM), is available to all users. Engineers can create queries to
select information, which was created in the Engineering applications or captured during
well operations using OpenWells. This supports access to data and promotes effective
decision making enabling engineers to compare and contrast any type of information and
benchmark operations.

EDM Data Analyzer supports integration with OpenWorks and the DecisionSpace
application suite through population of knowledge attachments which can be viewed
within AssetView KM, which will be released with EDM platform support later in 2004.
EDM Data Analyzer is also integrated into iWellFile, the next generation intranet reporting
and data analysis web site due to be released later in 2004.

Data Analyzer queries are stored within the EDM database so that they may be shared
amongst all engineers. This promotes consistent analysis and query re-use. Each user
has access to System queries (available to all users) and also their own private user
queries. Data Analyzer queries are easily transferred between EDM systems through a
simple file transfer mechanism.

Licensing
For Engineers Desktop Release2003.11, all PC and UNIX products including the
Engineers Desktop applications support use of FLEXlm licensing, which is the only
licensing mechanism supported by Landmark. FLEXlm licensing has been supported with
past releases, so many clients will already be using this licensing mechanism. FLEXlm
licensing is available for networked application and standalone application use. FLEXlm
standalone licensing may be used in conjunction with a network card or through a FLEXlm
dongle (bitlock) where no PC network identification is possible.
Previous versions of the Drilling applications and the Production & Economics
applications supported use of a proprietary Landmark licensing mechanism called
Netsecure for networks. Additionally, Sentinel bitlocks attached to a PCs parallel port
could be used for licensing of standalone installs, Crypkey licensing was also supported
for standalone installs. Use of Netsecure, Sentinel bitlocks and Crypkey has been
discontinued by Landmark and is not supported for use with Release2003 products.

Due to changes with Landmark's licensing mechanism, customers who have previously
installed and run EDM 2003.5 only need to add EDM licenses as stated above in order to
run R2003.11 applications. However, clients who have not previously installed and used
EDM 2003.5 applications (e.g., are upgrading from W2000 versions of the Engineering
applications direct to R2003.11) must re-license their products as well as add EDM
licenses by contacting their local Landmark representative. Refer to the LAM 2003.0Windows Release Notes (LAMReleaseNotes.pdf), located in the
\Products\EDT\Install\LAM folder on CD 5, for details.

IMPORTANT! If you have a version of LAM server older than 7.2e (Release 2003.0 and later), you
must uninstall it before installing the LAM 2003 server.
Failure to uninstall all previous versions of LAM Server before installing LAM Server 2003 will result in
a duplicate FLEXlm service that replicates itself until it crashes Windows.
The procedures for uninstalling LAM server are detailed in the section LAM Server - Uninstallation
Notes in the LAM 2003.0Windows Release Notes (LAMReleaseNotes.pdf), located in the
Products\EDT\Install\LAM folder on CD 6. Products that were licensed under the older server will still
work with the new LAM server.

R2003.11 Release Notes

March 2004

The EDM 2003.11 applications require that a new EDM license feature be available from
the customer's licensing server in order for the Engineer's Desktop applications to run.
The EDM license is handled as a Group Checkout for each application user on a particular
PC. Only one EDM license is checked out for all Engineer's Desktop applications being
run by a user on a single machine. Therefore, clients will need to acquire a set of EDM
licenses based on their expected concurrent user level. Please contact your local
Landmark representative for EDM licensing.

Landmark

Data Analyzer R2003.11

IMPORTANT! If you are using a FLEXlm dongle (bitlock), you must install FLEXlm 7.2i on the
standalone or client machine.
To install FLEXlm 7.2i for bitlocks (either parallel or USB):
1. Go to your installed \LAM\bin folder, and run flexid.exe to install the bitlock drivers.
2. To request a bitlock license, run \LAM\bin\lmtools.exe. Select System Settings tab; provide the value
you see in the FLEXID9 field.

Enhancements and New Functionality

Engineers Data Model Support
EDM Data Analyzer has been expanded from the previous Data Analyzer available with
the DIMS platform. In addition to porting the application to work against the Engineers
Desktop platform, Data Analyzer has been enhanced to support core EDM architectures
such as the EDM Unit Management System (UMS), EDM Tight Access Security and
Application Security, and EDM Reference Datum Levels (RDL).
Data Analyzer enables the user to view output results and graphs to any display unit set
available to the user. The user can quickly change display units without having to
regenerate the query.

The Engineers Data Model supports view of Depth information to the Well depth
reference elevations or to the system datum for the Project. This is easily achieved
through a toolbar selection.

Data Analyzer supports the EDM Tight Access Security model. Site and Well data sets to
which the user is not authorized to view are not included within Data Analyzer result data
sets. These Sites and Wells are completely hidden from the user. Application Security is
supported in the EDM Administration utility where the EDM implementation team can
configure which users or groups are able to run the Data Analyzer and save system
queries and templates.

Selection Tree View Options

The Selection Tree has been expanded to support various viewing options. Using the
right-click or View menus, the user can configure the Selection Tree to select data objects
using a Well Explorer view for engineers or Table/Column view made available for more
advanced users familiar with the design of the Engineers Data Model. Various field label
options are available to allow the engineer to select from Landmark or Custom field labels
and descriptions, or database table/column names as an alternative. View options may
be changed at any time without affecting the content of the opened queries.

Conditions List - Selection Tree Integration

The Conditions List grid has been enhanced to more tightly integrate with the Selection
Tree. Clicking on an item in the Conditions List results in the Selection Tree automatically
navigating to the item. This saves the user considerable time and effort when they want
to change their selections.

Results Grid NULL Support

Compared to the legacy DIMS version, the EDM Data Analyzer is able to provide visual
support for NULL (i.e. empty) values which are displayed as blank values highlighted with
a different color than those cells with a populated values.

Graphics

Multi-Graph View
The Graphs tab has also been enhanced to support display of multiple graphs per query.
Using the Graph Toolbar, the user can quickly add any number of additional graphs to
their query. Toolbar options also enable the user to display one graph at a time, two

The Graphs tab in Data Analyzer has benefited from several new features. The Graphics
Server library used to construct the graphs has been updated to the latest version. A new
Graphics toolbar has been added to enable the user to dynamically update the graph type
and content without having to use the Graph Wizard. The toolbar provides simple graph
type icons and X and Y axis selection lists to enable the user to quickly re-configure their
graph. Invert options are also available for the X-axis and the two supported Y-axis.

Template Export to Excel

A commonly used feature within the Data Analyzer is the ability to group queries together
into a template. When a template is open, the spreadsheet export has been enhanced to
support multiple query export with a separate worksheet created for each query result
data set. The created worksheets are given the name of the query from which they were
sourced.

Known Problems
Through the course of development on the EDM platform a number of issues were
resolved. However, some issues remain:

Calculated Fields
EDM data storage philosophy is to try to not store calculated values e.g. TVDs. Within
OpenWells, these are displayed as virtual fields with the user not having to enter or
calculate these values. As they are not stored in the database, they cannot be queried.

Virtual Fields

No Production & Economics domain support

For this first release of Data Analyzer on the Engineers Desktop, the Selection Tree has
intentionally been limited to only show Drilling & Completions data areas. Support for
Production & Economics areas will be provided in a later release.

DIMS Data Analyzer Query Import

Due to significant structural differences between the DIMS data model and the Engineers
Data Model (EDM), it was not possible to provide an import facility for DIMS Data Analyzer
queries.

R2003.11 Release Notes

March 2004

Draft

In addition to calculated fields, OpenWells displays other types of virtual fields where the
value displayed is associated to information to another area by an internal key e.g.
Formation names, Zone names. Data Analyzer does not support query of these types of
fields. Support for these will be implemented in a future release.
