Welcome to

Team Isles
Mrs. Isles
Room 302

Dear Families,
I am so excited to be working with your child this year! We are going to
Play Hard and Work Harder in Second Grade. (Well have some fun too ). I
would like to start by giving you a little information about myself. I was born and
raised in Indianapolis and I am a graduate of Indiana University. My husband,
Brandon, and I live in Clermont with our two wonderful girls, Lucy (2 years) and
Lynnie (1 year). This will be my 8th year teaching and my 5th year at Brown. Ive
taught in charter, public and private schools in grades 1,2,3,5 and 2/3 High ability.
I am thrilled to be returning to the 2nd grade team this year! When Im not
teaching I love to read, go on walks with my girls, and catch a movie with my
husband.
There are many things we will learn this year, but my goal is to help your
child become a life-long learner and work well with others. This packet will serve
as a guideline for our successful school year. In order for your child to have the
best educational experience possible, we need your help in understanding and
following the procedures below.

Parent Volunteers
Parent volunteers are always appreciated and needed in the classroom. However, we
understand that due to work schedules, child care, etc. it may not be possible to spend time in
the classroom working with the children. There are many ways you can volunteer your time and
become involved in your childs education. Please let me know if you are looking for a way to
help. I can always use help cutting, filing, working with small groups, fieldtrip chaperones, book
orders, computer lab times, and many other jobs. Please be aware that any parent wishing to

volunteer must fill out a Corporation Volunteer Form prior to working with the children or going
on a fieldtrip available on the Brown website.

Visiting the Building and our Classroom

You are always welcome to visit our classroom during the day. Please send a note, email,
or leave a message on my voicemail so we can set up a time. This will avoid visits during testing
time or when we are out of the classroom. Our lunch time is 11:30 12:00 and our recess is
12:00 12:35pm.
During the day our classroom phone will be on DO NOT DISTURB. If you call you will be
taken to my voicemail. I will do my best to get back to you as soon as possible. Email is the best
way to get ahold of me during the day. If there is an emergency, please contact the main office.
If you are calling in regards to a transportation change you must contact the office by
3:00pm.

The TEAM Communication Folder

There is a TEAM purple pocket folder labeled with Keep at Home and Return to School
that your student needs to bring to school each day. (T Together, E Everyone, A Achieves, M
- More). Important notices from the office will be sent in the Keep at Home side. Occasionally
youll find papers that need corrected or redone. Please complete and return these as soon as
possible for a better grade! Encourage your child to show you this folder daily. ***Most graded
papers will be sent home on Fridays. I encourage you to go through these papers with your
student over the weekend.

Assignment Notebook and Behavior Chart

Each afternoon, I will review the days assignments with the children. They are required to
write these assignments in their assignment notebook. Please talk with your child each night
about what is due the following day. I require that your child show the assignment notebook to
you so that you may review, see any darts or tally marks issued (per our behavior plan), and sign
it, indicating that you have seen it. They can receive a tally mark if they are not signed daily.
**Visit our classroom website www.islesteam.weebly.com
And the first page is our homework blog. For the first semester I will fill this out each
night too!

Homework

Homework in our classroom may consist of unfinished classwork, reading logs (due
monthly), math (Homelinks on most nights), reading assignments, test study guides, or projects.
It is my policy that students will not miss recess for unfinished homework. That being said, it will
be sent home again the next night and they will have to make it up to receive a grade. The
students grade for late / missing work will decrease each week it isnt turned in. Students will
also receive a tally from our classroom management system if they have late homework.
A typical week would include a math assignment (each night expect for Friday) and two
reading or language assignments. We will have a spelling and dictation quiz each Thursday, a
reading quiz each Friday, and a Math quiz about once a week. Additionally, students are
encouraged to read at home each week for a minimum of 60 minutes.

Classroom Management System

Maintaining a positive classroom environment is vital to successful learning. In second grade, we

will be working toward earning brag tags for positive behavior! The students will earn these
tags throughout the year and add them to their brag tag necklace that they will get to show off
on Fridays. When students need to be redirected we will use the darts and demerits behavior
plan (see brochure in parent night folder). Students have behavior and responsibility
expectations that they are required to follow. In addition, I have the following classroom
expectations based on Whole-Brain Learning.
So that you know about your childs
1. Follow directions quickly
day, I will have a chart in your childs
2. Raise your hand to speak

to check their grades online anytime throughout the
school year. You can see the individual assignments and the average grade for every subject. I
will do my best to have all grades updated by the beginning of each week. If you do not know
your username and password, please contact the school office.

Other Things to Remember

Every Friday afternoon I will send an email with reminders about our classroom
assignments and important upcoming dates.
Check PowerSchool weekly to stay on track of your students grades!
PLC early release is every Wednesday at 3:10pm. No early release if school start is
delayed.
Medication forms must be on file in the nurses office for students to take medication.
Please discuss any allergy or other concerns you have with me.

Thank you very much for coming tonight. I am looking forward to an exciting year and a
rewarding partnership with you and your child. Please do not ever hesitate to call or email me
with any questions or concerns. You are one of the greatest resources I have in getting to know
your child.
Thanks,
