Chapter 1

Organization and Championship


1.1

Electric Karting Championship

Electric Karting Championship is an effort to promote environmentally friendly competitive


sport at the most elemental level- a Go-kart. The main aim is to reduce the use of emission
spewing vehicles and to innovate solutions for the upcoming mobility mode - Electric Vehicles
(EV). The real spirit of this competition lies in the fact that participants will create a real world
practical application with the engineering concepts.
Objective:
To design a single seater electric powered go kart to be tested in a series of events spread over
3 days. The vehicle will be put to test in terms of build quality, speed, acceleration, manoeuvrability and finally gruelling endurance.

1.2

Organizing Committee

The organization provides a platform to young enthusiasts, engineers and car lovers to showcase their talent at a grandeur stage. Racing is not just about speed but more about how you
survive breakdowns and the best way to do so is by competing with the best. Ezenith Motorsports organizes motorsport events where you can learn while having fun. The organization
promotes innovation for future applications and provides students with an opportunity to be
recognized at national level for their Research and Development in interdisciplinary fields. Take
up this opportunity to get a chance to go head to head with the best minds in this country.

Chapter 2

Associated Rule
2.1

Rules Authority

There are several rules and restrictions which are to be followed by each and every team.
Organizing Committee has complete authority each and every rule associated with the event.
Violation by anyone of the participating member may be liable to be penalized severely, inclusive of and up to debarring of the team from the competition at any stage or withdrawal of
award/awards, as well.

2.2

Rules Validity

The rules will be same throughout the event and any amendments will immediately be made
known to all the participating teams through email & sms and the same will be uploaded on
the website mentioned above.

2.3

Rules Compliance

By registering for this event the team, members of the team as individuals, faculty advisors
and other personnel of the college and university agree to comply with, and be bound by,
these rules and all rule interpretations or procedures issued or announced by Electric Karting
Championship 2016. All team members, faculty advisors and other university representatives
are required to cooperate with, and follow all instructions from, competition organizers, officials
and judges.

2.4

Right to Impound

Electric Karting Championship 2016 reserves the right to impound any onsite registered
vehicle at any time or at any stage during the competition for examination by organizers,
officials and technical inspectors.

2.5

Communications

All the communications will made only through Emails support@ezenithmotorsports.com


and hello@ezenithmotorsports.com , Website: www.ezenithmotorsports.com , or by official
Ezenith Facebook page. Any other modes of communications should not be regarded as official
communication. Any mail address apart from the one mentioned above asking for payment in
the name of EKC 2016 should be immediately brought to the notice of Organizing Committee.
Ezenith Motorsports shall not be responsible for any damage caused due to responding to any
other communication mode other than the ones mentioned.

2.6

Deadlines

Teams are advised to stick to the deadlines strictly. Delays will not be entertained and will
affect teams scores. For sending couriers, teams are requested to plan before hand to avoid
delays due to public holidays.

Chapter 3

Eligibility
3.1

Team Requirement

The team registering for Electric Karting Championship 2016 must have a Team Name,
Team Logo, Team Captain and the Faculty Advisor. Any number of teams can register from
one College and in case of multiple registrations from a single College, the Team Name, Team
Logo and Team Captain must be different but the Faculty Advisor can be same. There should
be minimum of 8 and maximum of 20 members in a team under any circumstances.
Eligibility criteria - Eligibility is limited to diploma, undergraduate and graduate students to ensure that this event is an engineering competition rather than a
race. Our sole motive still remains the honing up of engineers to be and encouraging sound
engineering practices. Individual members of a team participating in this competition must
satisfy the following requirements. Team members must be enrolled as diploma/degree seeking in an engineering college or university. All those team members who have registered while
still being enrolled in above mentioned course are eligible to participate in the competition.
Team members who have graduated during the last eight (8) month period prior to the start of
competition (31st May) are eligible to participate.

3.2

When uploading team members list during registration,it is mandatory that


excel file be renamed in the following format- Team Name Team Member List.xls

3.3.1

Registration and Requirements


Team Registration

Online registration will be open 24x7 on our website www.ezenithmotorsports.com from


9th-April-2016. Once the team has been registered online, the payment must be done within
7 working days from the date of registration [In case of payment failure within the due dates,
online registration will be canceled.

3.3.2

Registration Agreement

By registering in EKC the Team Captain/Team Member/Faculty Advisor/College Management must agree with the rules and regulations. They understand that all the information
provided in the registration documents and online registration forms are correct to the best of
their knowledge. Also, they accept that team would undertake all the activities without the help

of a professional directly or indirectly. Also, the Faculty Advisor should not directly involve in
the process of the making the vehicle. In case of violation of rules and regulations specified in
this Rulebook, the team is liable for disciplinary actions as per the decision of the Management.

3.3.3

Registration Fees

Registration Fees is Rs. 17,400/- inclusive of services tax. Registration fees Once
paid would not be refunded under any Scenario/Circumstances.

3.4
3.4.1

Drivers Requirements
Age

Every Team is supposed to have two drivers and both the drivers of the team must be at
least 18 years of age.

3.4.2

Drivers License

Each driver must have a valid Drivers License (Four Wheeler) issued by the Government of
India (Learners License not allowed). Both drivers must provide a license copy when insisted
by Technical Committee.

3.4.3

Drivers Safety Gear

The following are the minimum requirements and restrictions that will be enforced through
technical inspection and at any stage of competition. All the safety equipment must be present
during the TI for verification. No driver would be allowed to drive the vehicle without the
complete drivers safety gear in any of the dynamic event. It is recommend that the teams
use SFI/FIA/Snell rated equipment so that driver safety is not compromised in
the event of accidents. The complete drivers gear will consist of the following items:

3.4.3.1

Drivers Suit

The driver must wear a fire resistant suite or jacket for avoiding injuries in case of accidents. Students are recommended to use SFI-rated one piece suit for driver safety, made from
a minimum of 1-layer that covers the body from the neck down to the ankles and the wrists
3.4.3.2

Drivers Underclothing

It is strongly recommended that all drivers wear fire resistant underclothing (long pants and
long sleeve t-shirt) under their driving suit/jacket. This fire resistant underclothing should be
made from an acceptable fire resistant material and should cover the drivers body completely
from neck to ankles and also the wrists.
Note: If you do not wear fire resistant underclothing, it is strongly recommended that you
wear cotton underclothing (t-shirt and long underpants) under your approved driving suit.
3.4.3.3

Helmet and Balaclava

A well-fitting closed face helmet that meets ISI/ISO certification. Higher grade helmets can
be used. The organizer reserves the right to impound all non-approved helmets until the end of
the competition.
3.4.3.4

Gloves

Driver must use fit and comfortable hand gloves for protection. Teams can use high quality
bike gloves.
3.4.3.5

Shoes

Driver should use proper driving shoes. Flat soul shoes can also be used if the team fails to
arrange the shoes as mentioned above.
3.4.3.6

Socks

Fire resistant socks made from acceptable fire resistant material or cotton socks that covers
the exposed skin between the drivers suit and the boots/shoes.

3.5
3.5.1

Vehicle Requirements
Chassis Requirements

The vehicle must necessarily have four (4) wheels not in a straight line. The vehicle must
be capable of carrying one person of height 190cm (75in) weighing 113Kg (250lbs).
The mountings and designing of chassis should be such that there should be minimum 2 inches
(gap) clearances between the driver and any component of the vehicle in static and dynamic
condition hands, torso, thigh etc. Body parts making contact with the parts at normal seating
position are excluded from the rule. Roll over protection in the chassis is compulsory so as to
save the driver and kart from severe damage in a mishap. For this purpose Roll Bar can be
used in the structure and its top should extend a minimum 5cm/2in vertically from the top of
the drivers helmet. Only Welded Chassis is permitted Bolted chassis are strictly prohibited.

3.5.2

Chassis Material

The tubes used in fabrication of the chassis must be seamless only. The rectangular/square
pipe used in the chassis or the other frames/supports may be seam/seamless. The minimum
wall thickness shall be 1mm for Steel and 3mm for Aluminium. Material Test Certificate (TC)
is essentially required to be produced during the technical inspection. Material can be certified
from any of the material testing laboratories for its chemical and mechanical properties, the
same report should be presented at the time of inspection and throughout the event.
Material Specification: Material used should not be mild steel. Material having weight
density less than or equal to that of Stainless steel can be used. Material Alloys are accepted.
Use of light weight material is promoted. Note that the minimum Factor of Safety in all
types of Impact Testing Simulation Results should be 1.5.

3.5.3

Wheelbase and Wheel Track

The wheelbase of the vehicle must be at least 40 inches and the smaller wheel track (front
or rear) must be no less than 70% of the wheelbase of the vehicle. Difference between the front
track width and rear track width must not be more than 20%

3.5.4

Ground Clearance

With the driver aboard there must be a minimum of 25.4 mm (1 in) of static ground
clearance measured from the lowest point (except tyres) of the vehicle, under the complete vehicle. No compensation like chain sprocket, brake disc in ground clearance would be entertained.

3.5.5

Hitch Points

There must be two hitch points, one each in the front and rear for the purpose of towing
the vehicle.

3.5.6

Bumper (Front and Rear)

Bumpers must be installed in the front and rear of the vehicle such that they cover the tyres
and protect them from any collision which may occur on the track. Proper impact absorption
mechanism have to be used.

3.5.7

Suspension

Using Suspension is not recommended. Teams must be able to justify the use of suspension
system

3.5.8

Steering System

The steering system must be able to control (simultaneously) at least two (2) wheels. The
steering system must have positive steering stops that prevent the steering linkages from locking
up either in RH or LH turning (the inversion of a four-bar linkage at one of the pivots). The
stops may be placed on the uprights or on the rack and must prevent the tires from contacting
body, or frame members during the track events. Allowable total steering system free play
(inclusive of play in all the steering linkages) is limited to 7 degrees, measured at the steering
wheel. The steering wheel must be mechanically connected to the front wheels, i.e. steer- bywire or electronic steering is strictly prohibited. The shape of steering wheel can be of any type:
continuous, H-shaped, C shaped etc. Do note that the shape and size should be such that its
rotation is unhindered by any part of drivers body.

3.5.9

Braking System

The brake system installed must be capable of stopping the vehicle in a straight line without
losing control during the brake test. The vehicle must have hydraulic braking system that stops
at least 2 wheels/Axle simultaneously. The pedal must directly actuate the master cylinder
through a rigid link (i.e., cables are not allowed). All brake lines must be securely mounted and
not fall below any portion of the vehicle. Electronic braking systems are strictly prohibited.
In case of any wheel mounted disc brake mechanism bleeding ports for disc caliper should be
upside to that of piston mechanism of caliper. There should be no leakage from any part of the
braking system.

3.5.10

Visibility Requirement

The powertrain compartment must be completely visible to examiners. However, chain drive
or belt drive must have proper shields.

3.5.11

Driver Seat

The seat mounting must be rigid enough to withstand the various forces that the vehicle
will undergo while the go-kart is being driven on the track. The driver seat should be at least 2
inches away from the firewall. The Drivers seat must be designed in such a way that it prevents
lateral motion of the driver when multidirectional forces act on him when cornering or braking.
The seat must not protrude below the lowest plane of the chassis frame, under any condition
what-so- ever. An example of the allowed seat is given below.

3.5.12

Bodywork

The bodywork must be designed such that the vehicle number, team logo and Event logos
may be displayed clearly.It is mandatory to reserve 35% of total bodywork for event related
stickers. If the front body work is provided, the driver egress should be less than 5 seconds.
No sharp edges should be present anywhere on the vehicle. Sharp edges will carry point deductions.Teams are advised to use grommete strips used in automobiles to cover up sharp edges.

3.5.13

Weight

There is no restriction on the weight of the vehicle. But do note that motor power is limited
and weight plays an important role in vehicle performance. Use of composite materials in
bodywork is promoted to aid weight reduction.

3.5.14

Kill Switch

The electrical system must include at least two kill switches capable of cutting all electrical
circuits including the power coming from battery to the motors. The kill switches must NOT
deactivate the brakelight.
Kill Switches Locations1 Cockpit Switch The cockpit switch must be located in the front of the cockpit within
easy reach of the driver. The switch may not be mounted on a removable steering wheel
assembly.
2 External Switch The external switch must be mounted on the drivers right side of the
vehicle the switch must be within easy reach of track workers, the switch must be mounted
rigidly, with no sharp edges nearby.

3.5.15

Bolts

All bolts used in the system must be no less than SAE Grade 5, Metric grade M8.8 or
AN/MS specification. All fasteners used should have min 2 threads showing past the nut.

3.5.16

Lock Nuts

Lock nuts (Nyloc nuts) are mandatory to be used everywhere in the vehicle. Failure to fulfil
this, no team will get T.I. OK for the vehicle. Lock washers or thread sealants do not meet this
requirement.

3.5.17

Wheels and Tyres

Use of standard go-karting tyres is recommended. Rim size to be used should not exceed
10inch.
Rim size = O.D of Rim = I.D of tyres.

3.5.18

Fire Extinguisher

Each team must have at least two (2) nos. of 1 kg fire extinguishers meant for electrical
fires. One present at the pit at all times and one with a team representative accompanying the
kart throughout the event. Fire extinguisher should be in proper working condition. It should
be accompanied with a sticker or a bill clearly mentioning its expiry date.

3.5.19

Path for Wires and Pipes

no pipelines/wire connections must go under the chassis. It is strictly prohibited. Doing so


may lead to disqualification of the team.

3.5.20

Firewall

Firewall is a boundary which protects the driver in the event of fire hazard. So,the firewall
must be made up of a heat resistant material,Example: GI/Aluminum Sheet. There should be
min 2 inches clearance between the Firewall & the Powertrain system.

3.5.21

Unstable Vehicle

Any vehicle exhibiting handling issues or other vehicle dynamics that are deemed unstable
by the technical inspectors will not be permitted to participate in the dynamic events. The
decision of the Head of the Technical Committee of EKC in this regard will be final and binding
to all. This is in the interest of safety of all teams

3.5.22

Seat Belt

Use of seatbelt to properly secure the driver is mandatory. All the seatbelt should be fixed
to mountings attached to chassis. Rollover protection members can be used for mountings.
Minimum 3-point harness seat belts should be used.Use of Self-manufactured seat belts is prohibited.

3.5.23

Push Bar

Off track vehicles must be pushed at a normal walking pace by means of a Push Bar,
(removable device that attached to the rear) and with a driver in the kart and with another
team member walking beside the car.

3.5.24

Brake Lights

The vehicle must be installed with a brake light red in color which is clearly visible from
the rear. If an LED brake light is used, it must be clearly visible in very bright sunlight. This
light must be mounted between the wheel centreline. All the electrical connections done must
be well insulated.

3.5.25

Battery

The battery voltage should not exceed 48V and a minimum current of 20Ah
should be able to be drawn from it. Smaller batteries in series can be used provided
equivalent voltage does not exceed 48V. Stepping up voltage to match motor requirements is
permitted. Additionally, a separate 5V batteries can be used to power auxiliary car electricals
like lighting etc.

3.5.26

Cost

The go-kart cost should not exceed Rs.80,000. This excludes the cost of batteries and
safety equipment.

3.5.27

Final Vehicle Design

The design report must contain a valid and complete design of the vehicle including all
subsystems.

3.5.28

Rear View Mirror

Rear view mirrors on both sides are mandatory.

3.6

Vehicle Identification

Each team will be given a vehicle number, and the vehicle will be known by this number in
the whole event. Teams are required to have a team name with an impressive team logo along
with the college logo which is to be placed on the vehicles body.
Teams are advised not to place any logos on the top front bodywork of the vehicle
because the vehicle number and EKC logos (including event sponsors) will be placed
in that space.

Vehicle Power train Motor

Teams are free to use any of the BLDC/AC motor with a maximum Output of 3.5 kW. Use
of Hub motors is allowed except but the total power output shall not be exceed 3.5kW .

Motor Alterations - Teams will not be allowed to do any alterations to the motor. Team
caught doing alterations will be barred from taking further part in the competition.
Note- Positive locks and recoil spring must be provided with the throttle pedal.
Power Train Guards All rotating parts such as belts, chains, and sprockets that rotate
at the rate of the drive axle(s) or faster, must be shielded to prevent injury to the driver or bystanders if the component fly apart due to centrifugal force. These guards/shields must extend
around the periphery of the belt or chain and must be wider than the rotating part they are
protecting. They must be mounted with sound engineering practice, in order to resist vibration.
Rotating parts must also be guarded all around, in addition to the guard around the periphery.
All around guarding (finger guards) must prevent small, searching fingers from getting caught
in any rotating part. Non rigid, fabric coverings such as Frogskin, Ceconite, and neoprene are unacceptable for use as finger guards.
A complete cover around the motor and drive-train is an acceptable shield.
Motor Controller- The motor speed controller should be in accordance to the motor specification. It is always beneficial to use a higher grade controller to avoid cut-offs.
Fuse/Circuit Breaker- The fuse or circuit breaker must be installed somewhere in between
the power line, from the battery to the motor, to shut down the motor in event of a fault in
traction circuit.
DC to DC Converter- The teams are free to use any DC/DC or alternator based converter based on their preference.
Gauges-The kart should be equipped with a dash fuel gauge for the driver to monitor the
health and condition of battery.
Battery Charger- The kart should be equipped with a single phase charger embedded in
the kart. The Charger should preferably use less than 10A current socket. (Multiple chargers
can be accommodated.)

Chapter 4

Design Evaluation
In the Design Evaluation, all the teams are required to showcase their research and
development in a video presentation of 15 minutes, a copy of the same presentation and a
preliminary design report which is to be sent to Ezenith Head office via courier and
email(Larger files can be shared via Google Drive). The courier should contain a CD/DVD
which has all the below mentioned files written/burned on it. All the files should be in PDF
format. The Further details will be released on Ezenith website. Documents to be prepared:
Preliminary Design Report (IEEE Format).
Design Presentation
Video of Design Presentation given by maximum of 5 team members.
It is recommended that the design presentation cover all the systems, Design methodology,
Design Validation Plan, DFMEA, Innovation, Safety and Ergonomics. Formal attire is necessary for presentation team. Only 15 Slides allowed in the presentation.
The naming format for the files should be Team Name Registration and ID File Name. The
compact must be secured with a CD cover to prevent damage in transit. Team name and Registration ID must be mentioned on the CD.
There will be limited timeline for sending the CD so take precautions to avoid damage. Sending files by courier is compulsory and it should reach on or before the deadline. Failure to
send courier will be considered as incomplete submission and may lead to dismissal from the
competition.

4.1

Vehicle Design Report

The design report must contain all the necessary details related to the vehicle like analysis,
calculations, etc. This report must not exceed 15 pages and it is recommended to provide
at least three different views of vehicle drawing with proper dimensions. Different views of
completely assembled design of the vehicle must be presented in this Vehicle Design report.

4.2

Q&A

Every team will receive an email from Ezenith team containing a form with set of questions
relating to the design presentation. Teams are required to fill this form and send it back to
Ezenith team the same day via email. Detailed answers will be expected hence take time in
filling up the form since this will be considered for evaluating teams score. The naming format
for the files should be Team Name Registration ID File Name.

4.3

Results

The results will be published on Ezenith Motorsports & Ezenith Education Website and
Ezenith Education facebook pages. Detailed report card would be provided to the each and
every team. The qualifying scores would be 40% of the top score. The designs would be
evaluated on first come first serve basis hence teams are advised to send their couriers as soon
as the Design Evaluation window opens.

Chapter 5

Pre- Final Phase.


This phase will involve teams submitting documentation and videos relating to Business
Logic Case, College Level TI, Final Design Report and Innovation. The College Level TI and
Final Design Report files will be evaluated for the teams preparedness to appear for the Final
Phase. The vehicle should be ready in all aspects for the teams to gain qualification to Final
Phase. Teams are requested to stick to deadlines since teams will be provided time to rectify
the faults to make a final bid to reach the finals.

5.1

Business Logic Case (BLC)

Teams that have successfully cleared the Design Evaluation would have to give a mandatory
Business Logic Case Presentation. Business logic is similar to a Marketing Presentation. Teams
would be awarded marks depending upon their submission to the BLC presentation. Detailed
information regarding BLC can be found in the Downloads section on our website. Teams are
supposed to record their presentation and share the same with us via courier. A BLC Template
is also required to be filled and sent by the teams along with the courier. The Best Business
Proposal award is dependent on this section of the event. BLC Files have to be written/burned
on the separate CD/DVD and can be sent along with College TI and Final Design Report
Courier.Formal attire is necessary for the presentation

5.2

College level Technical Inspection and Final Design Report


Submission

Teams would be inspected by their own Faculty Advisor to make sure they are ready for
the competition. The Faculty Advisor is expected to inspect the kart based on the original
technical inspection parameters that are mentioned in the TI sheet. The faculty has to realize
the feasibility of the project being completed within the given deadline. The college level
Technical inspection must be recorded and written/burned on to a DVD/CD along with the
Final Design Report which must be couriered to Ezenith Headoffice. The College TI sheet will
be uploaded on the website which should be filled up during the TI and sent along with the
above courier.
The Faculty Advisor has to consider that the rulebook is properly followed. All paper work
should be checked thoroughly by the Advisor. In case of False Paper work caught by Ezenith
Motorsport officials, the Faculty Advisor is solely responsible for further actions to be taken on.
Main points to be covered in the video:
a. View of the vehicle from all angles giving sufficient time to view each subsystem,
b. Running vehicle video of 15 seconds.
c. Attempting the Brake test as described in the dynamic events.

Note: After fault rectifications, teams will share a video containing all the listed changes as
suggested by Ezenith Motorsports officials. The video can be sent by Google drive. Teams
should also fill and send a checklist of changes sent by the Officials. The email subject line
should read:

5.3

Innovation Submission

The team should also record a video explaining their innovation. This video along with an
innovation report must be added to above CD/DVD. The Innovation can be relating to any
topic which the team finds unique. Note: The naming format for all the above files should be
- TeamName RegistrationID FileName.

Final Phase
6.1
6.1.1

Static Event
Design Analysis

Good engineering practice will reflect a great manufacturing level. The vehicle will be examined by the judges at the time of Dynamic Event, so the participating teams are advised
to manufacture the vehicle with pre-planned strategies so that the vehicle would be able to
compete in several tasks and tests.
In the static test event while examining the vehicle, judges may throw questions on any of the
team members. The team members are advised to be prepared with the vehicle. Every team is
required to present a hard copy of the vehicle documents during this event.
The innovation done in the vehicle in Virtual Round will be discussed with the team and its
working will be examined by the technical inspectors in the respective paddock of the teams.
Team needs to present innovation report at the time of explaining the innovation. The innovation should be working and not just the concept.

After successfully completing this event, teams will receive a DA OK sticker. Teams are
advised to keep sufficient space on front bodywork for three such stickers.

6.1.2

Cost Report Presentation

The cost report will be verified for the actual cost of the components and systems used in
the fabricated kart. The cost of the components/systems mentioned in the cost report must not
vary with that of used in the vehicle. Teams will have to justify the cost report.

6.1.3

Technical Inspection

Before the dynamic event there will be TI (technical inspection) which does not carry any
points but is necessary for participating in dynamic event. TI will be based on rulebook parameter and safety checks of the vehicle. The team will be allowed only 2 chances for the TI test

failing which the team will be considered disqualified for the dynamic events. After qualifying
TI, teams will get TI OK sticker without which teams will not be allowed to participate in
Dynamic Events. The vehicle will be compared with the TI sheet and Final Design submitted
during the Pre-Final Phase. Deviating up to 10% is acceptable but on further deviations teams
will be penalized accordingly.

6.2
6.2.1

Dynamic Test
Brake Test

Its mandatory for a vehicle to pass the brake test to participate in any of the dynamic events.
The teams will be given BT OK sticker after successful qualification. The teams will need all 3
stickers to participate in further dynamic rounds. The vehicle should run at minimum 30km/hr
on a straight track. Two consecutive lines would be made at distance 20m. The vehicle after
crossing the second line will be allowed to apply brakes. The vehicle should stop before the
third line which will be at distance of 10m from the second line. Also the vehicle should stop
in a straight line without losing control.
Note: Brake Test wont carry any points, but its mandatory for a vehicle to pass the test
to go for any of the dynamic event.

6.2.2

Acceleration Test

Objective-Acceleration determines the time it takes the vehicle to accelerate along 30m
flat course with two lines marking the start and end of it.
Procedure- Each team may make two (2) attempts but with or without different drivers.
Scoring will be based on the better of the two attempts. Timing will start as soon as the front
wheels cross the first line. Minimum and maximum time would be marked as a standard and
all other vehicles will be given marks accordingly.
Scoring: The score for the acceleration event is spread between zero (0) and seventy-five (75)
based upon the elapsed time. The following equation is used to determine the scores for the
event:

6.2.3

Skip Pad Test

Objective- The objective of the skid-pad event is to measure the Kart cornering ability on
a flat surface while making a constant-radius turn.
Skid Pad Layout- There will be two (2) pairs of concentric circles in a figure of eight pattern.
The centres of these circles will be 7.5m apart. The inner circles will be 4 m in diameter, and
the outer circles will be 9 m in diameter. The driving path will be the 2.5 m path between the

inner and outer circles. The vehicles will enter and exit through gates on a 2m wide path that is
tangential to the circles where they meet. The line between the centres of the circles defines the
start/stop line. A lap is defined as travelling around one (1) of the circles from the start/stop
line and returning to the start/stop line.
Procedure- The vehicles will enter perpendicular to the figure eight and will have to take two
full lap of the figure of eight track.
NOTE: Each team may make two (2) attempts may or may not with different drivers. Scoring
will be based on the better of the two attempts. Timing may be done using either electronic
systems or stop watches.
Penalties:
a.) Cones Down Or Out- A penalty of 2 seconds will be added to the time for every cone
that is knocked down or out (including gate cones).
b.) DNF- Vehicles that spin-out can continue as long as they have not gone off course or
else will be classified as DNF.
c.) Incorrect Laps- Vehicles that do not follow procedure, i.e. run an incorrect number of
laps or run the Laps in the wrong sequence will be classified as DNF.

6.2.4

Autocross

Objective- The objective of the autocross event is to evaluate the vehicles maneuverability and handling qualities on a tight course without the hindrance of competing vehicles. The
autocross course will combine the performance features of acceleration, braking, and cornering
into one event.
Procedure- The vehicle will be staged such that the front wheels are 3 m (19.7 feet) behind
the starting line. The timer starts only after the vehicle crosses the start line. There will be
no particular order of the vehicles to run each heat. The organizer will determine the allowable
windows for each heat and retains the right to adjust for weather or technical delays. NOTE:
Each team may make two (2) attempts but with or without different drivers. Scoring will be
based on the better of the two attempts. Timing may be done using either electronic systems
or stop watches.
Autocross Scoring Formula: The following equation is used to determine the autocross

Penalties Cones Down Or Out- Two (2) seconds per cone. This includes cones before the start line
and after the finish line.
Off Course- For an OC, the driver must re-enter the track at or prior to the missed gate
or a twenty (20) second penalty will be assessed.
Vehicle to Vehicle contact: DISQUALIFIED
Missed Slalom- Missing one or more gates of a given slalom will incur a twenty (20) second
penalty.
Penalties for Moving Violations Failure to obey a flag: 1 minute
Over Driving (After a closed black flag): 1 Minute
Out of Order- Running out of order two (2) minute penalty

6.2.5

Endurance

Endurance - The following are general guidelines for conducting the endurance event. The
organizers reserve the right to establish procedures specific to the conduct of the event at the
site. No recharging will be allowed during an endurance.
Procedure- The final event will be run as a single round. Teams are not allowed to work
on their vehicles during the heat. A driver change can be made during a two (2) minute period
at the midpoint of the heat.Teams are expected to charge their batteries up to at least 75%
before coming for this event.
Race- The karts will line-up in the starting grid as per timings notched up in Autocross
event. The car with lowest recorded time will be first on the grid and so on in ascending order
of times recorded. The cars will have to lap a fixed circuit for duration of 45 minutes. The
teams recording the maximum number of laps will be adjudged winner of the endurance event.
Race stewards will be on the lookout for Vehicles not abiding by the rules and their decisions
in this regard will be final.
For mechanical failures, 20minutes will be given to teams to rectify faults during the race.
The car will have to be towed off the side of the race track. If teams are unable to rectify the
error within the stipulated time, they will be barred from taking further part in the race.
Penalties1. Reckless Driving will be strictly penalized during this event. Any reckless or aggressive
driving behavior (such as forcing another car off the track, refusal to allow passing, or
close driving that would cause the likelihood of car contact) will result in a black flag for
that driver. When a driver receives a black flag signal, he must proceed to the penalty
box to listen to a reprimand for his driving behavior. Teams may be handed 100 point
penalty or disqualification for any illegal moves made their driver
2. Drivers will have to maintain a minimum 3feet distance (in any direction) from their
competitors vehicles at any point of time. In the event of vehicles getting too close, the
defaulting team will be handed 3-lap penalty.
3. Penalties for Moving Violations Failure to obey a flag: 1 minute
Over Driving (After a closed black flag): 1 Minute
Out of Order- Running out of order two (2) minute penalty.
4. Mechanical Problem - No additional penalty other than the time lost to ensure that
the car is safe to continue.
5. Inexperienced Driver- The Race officials may disqualify a driver if the driver is too
slow, too aggressive, or driving in a manner that, in the sole opinion of the event, officials,
demonstrates an inability to properly control their car resulting in a DNF.

Judgement Terms
8.1

General Criteria

Black Flag - Pull into penalty box for discussion with event officials concerning an incident.
A time penalty may be assessed for such incident.
Black Flag with Orange Dot - Pull into the penalty box for a mechanical inspection of
your car, something has been observed that needs closer inspection.
Checkered Flag - Your session has been completed. Exit the course at the first opportunity.
Green Flag - Your session has started; enter the course under direction of the starter.
Red Flag - Come to an immediate safe controlled stop on the course. Pull to the side of
the course as much as possible to keep the course open. Follow corner worker directions.
Yellow Flag (Waved) - Danger, Slow down, and evasive action is most likely required. Be
Prepared to stop, something has happened beyond the flag station, No Passing unless
directed by the corner workers.
White Flag - There is a slow moving vehicle on the course that is much slower than you
are. Be prepared to approach it at a cautious rate.

8.2

Tie Breaker

The Tie breaker is done in the case of equal scores of two or more teams. This would only
be done if the Round extremists are having same Score. The parameters for Tie-Breaker will
be decided during the ongoing event. If already time is considered as the parameter and still
there is a Tie then the Award/Prize Money would be shared equality amongst the teams facing
Tie.

Chapter 9

Rules- Conducting the event


9.1

Behaviour

Unsportsmanlike Conduct- In the event of unsportsmanlike conduct, the team will receive a warning from an official. A second violation will result in expulsion of the team from the
competition. Failure of a team member to follow an instruction or command directed specifically to that team or team member will result in a twenty five (25) point penalty.
Arguments with Officials- Argument with, or disobedience to, any official may result in
100 point penalty or the team being eliminated from the competition. All members of the team
would be immediately escorted from the grounds.
Smoking and Illegal Material- Alcohol, illegal drugs, weapons or other illegal material
are prohibited on the event site during the competition. This rule will be in effect during the
entire competition. Any violation of this rule by a team member will cause the expulsion of
the entire team. This applies to both team members and faculty advisors. Any use of drugs,
or the use of alcohol by an underage individual, will be reported to the local authorities for
prosecution.

9.2

Vehicle Related

Vehicle Movement- Vehicles may not move under their own power anywhere but on the
practice or competition tracks. Off track vehicles must be pushed at a normal walking pace by
means of Push Bar/members pushing the vehicle, with all four (4) wheels on the ground, a team
member sitting in the cockpit to steer and brake and with another team member walking beside
the car. During performance events when the excitement is high, it is particularly important
that the car be moved at a slow pace in the pits. Violation of this rule will result directly into
the 25 points penalty.
List of Prefabricated Parts- All the teams have permission to buy the readymade/fabricated
parts but use of these parts in excess may lead to the disqualification of the vehicle or penalty
of 200 points. List of the prefabricated parts- Brake drum, disc, caliper, brake master cylinder,
Steering gear box, Steering column, Steering wheel, Wheel rims, tyres, seat, electronic cockpit
equipment, bearings and fasteners

9.3

Penalties

Violation of rules - 100 points/ disqualification.


Misbehaviour/arguments with officials or volunteers-100 points/disqualification.
Tampering with TI sticker or making restricted changes in vehicle after TI 100
points/disqualification.
Entry without permission on tracks - 100 points/ disqualification.
Intentional damage of track/tent/other resources will result to the penalty of Rs 5000/- on
the team also prize and certificates will not be awarded to the particular team/team member.
