INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

Social Studies are one of the hated subjects by the High School students with a reason
that its boring they say. Which can cause student to escape class and sleep during class? Hate,
boring, uninterested, dislike, disapprove; so many words to describe Social Studies by the
students especially in High school students. But based on my observations and experience, the
subject is really boring or dislike if the strategies and the technique of the teacher being used is
not interesting. Which students give attention is the never been seen techniques and game
strategies given by the Social Studies teacher. More students have this feeling that learning
Social Studies is never fun and the process is boring thats why student achievement in this
subject is very low.

Students are considerably more likely to understand and remember the content subject
you are teaching. Simply put, the information tends to be less fuzzy and more precise.
Graphics help students separate what is important to know from what might be interesting but
not essential information. The semantic information processing demands are reduced, you can
often address the content at more sophisticated or complex levels. Students are more likely to
become strategic learners. Reading and writing skills, communication skills and analytical,
critical and creative thinking skills are all subject to improve when students learn recognize these
patterns of thinking, construct and use graphic organizers. This is the mainly reason why we
should apply the (GO) technique in Social Studies.

If graphic organizers are used effectively then test scores will go up because the content
instruction is more effective. Students focuses in studying essential information focusing the
main ideas to supporting ideas to another supporting ideas to support the main idea of the lesson.

Naturally, the degree to which graphics impact test scores will also be affected by the
degree to which students are tested on the information depicted on the graphic. For many
students, improved performance on classroom tests will be almost immediate, however,
improvement on standardized achievement tests is not immediate but is likely over time if
sufficient emphasis is placed on teaching students how to use graphic organizers strategically.

Statement of the Problem

General Problem
The study aims to determine the effectiveness of using graphic organizer as strategies in
teaching to improve the achievement in Social Studies.

Specific Problem
This research specifically aims to answer these following questions:
1.

What is the Achievements of Social Studies Students before using Graphic

Organizer?
2. What are the Achievements after using Graphic Organizer?
3. What is the significance in the Achievement of the Social Studies Students before and

after?

4. What are common problems encountered using Graphic Organizers in Social Studies

teaching?

Significance of the Study

Teachers teach students should know what the students what really want nowadays. 21st
century teachers should understand the learners in order to be more effective and efficient and
relatively more interesting. This study relatively finds the solution to lessen students to skip class
during the subject. The study is important to the following:

School or Institutions. The performance of the students has the great factor on the
performance of the school academically. If the academic performance of the students increases or
improved, the performance of the school will also improve.

Teachers. Teachers helps to show and explain relationships between and among content.
It also makes the lesson interactive, help visual learners to acquire information more easily to
motivate and assist students in prewriting techniques to assess what students know.

Parents. To the Parents who raise their child to become a better person and to become
knowledgeable, that will help them in the future.

Students. Helps students to understand the concept of part to whole. To record, clarify
and organize ideas to improve students memory to comprehend texts, recognize and assimilate
different points of view.

Scope and Delimitations

The study focused on the use of Graphic Organizer in improving the competencies in
geometry. This study involved __________ students who enrolled in Castillejos National High
School SY: 2016-2017.
