HANDLING PRECAUTIONS

CAUTION
STATIC SENSITIVE COMPONENTS
The control board can be damaged by static electricity. Observe the
electrostatic precautions below when handling controller circuit boards or
testing components.
Failure to follow this instruction can result in equipment damage.
Observe the following precautions when handling static sensitive
components:

Keep static producing material (plastic, upholstery, carpeting) out of the

immediate work area.

Store the control board in its protective packaging when it is not installed
in the drive controller.

When handling the control board, wear a conductive wrist strap

connected to the control board through a minimum of one megohm
resistance.

Avoid touching exposed conductors and component leads with skin or

clothing.

Bus Voltage Measurement

BUS VOLTAGE MEASUREMENT

DANGER
HAZARDOUS VOLTAGE
Disconnect all power including external control power that may be
present before servicing the drive controller. WAIT TEN MINUTES for
the DC bus capacitors to discharge. Then follow the DC bus voltage
measurement procedure to verify that the DC voltage is less than 45 V.
The drive controller LEDs are not accurate indicators of the absence of
DC bus voltage.
Read and understand the bus voltage measurement procedure before
performing the procedure. Measurement of bus capacitor voltage must
be performed by qualified personnel.
DO NOT short across DC bus capacitors or touch unshielded
components or terminal strip screw connections with voltage present.
Many parts in this drive controller, including printed wiring boards,
operate at line voltage. DO NOT TOUCH. Use only electrically insulated
tools.
Failure to follow these instructions will result in death or serious
injury.

Removing the Control Board

The DC bus voltage level is determined by monitoring the (+) and (-)
measurement points. Their location varies by drive controller model number
as shown in Figure 1. The drive controller model number is listed on its
nameplate.
To measure the DC bus capacitor voltage:
1. Disconnect all power from the drive controller including external control
power that may be present on the control board and the option board
terminals. Verify by measurement.
NOTE: Controller programming that is not properly saved will be lost
when power is removed from the control board. Before you remove
power, record or save the drive controller configuration.
2. Wait ten minutes for the DC bus capacitors to discharge.
3. Read the model number of the drive controller from the nameplate and
identify the corresponding (+) and (-) measurement points from Figure 1.
4. Open the door or cover of the drive controller.
5. Set the voltmeter to the 1000 Vdc scale. Measure the voltage between
the (+) and (-) measurement points identified in Step 3. Verify that the
DC bus voltage has discharged below 45 V before servicing the drive
controller.
6. If the DC bus capacitors will not discharge below 45 V, contact your local
Schneider Electric representative. Do not operate the drive controller
and do not attempt to replace component parts.

REMOVING THE CONTROL

BOARD

To remove the old control board (see Figure 2 on page 4 for lettered items):
1. Before replacing the control board, perform the bus voltage
measurement procedure on page 2 of this bulletin.
2. Remove the front sheet metal cover from the drive controller.
3. Remove the keypad (A) by loosening the one screw.
4. To remove the plastic door (G) covering the control board:
a. Squeeze the latch in the lower left corner of the door and open it to
the right.
b. Lift the bottom right side to release the top hinge.
c. Push down to release the bottom hinge.
5. Remove the pull-apart customer interface terminal strips (B) from the
bottom of the control board.
6. Fold the flexible shield (C) installed over the control board to the left and
remove any option card (D) that is installed on the control board.
7. Remove the cable at J18 (E) on the top left of the control board by prying
lightly from alternate corners of the connector housing.
8. Remove the control board mounting screws starting with the bottom right
and proceeding clockwise. Support the control board assembly while
removing the top right screw.
NOTE: Retain the metal clips at the bottom right and top left positions for
re-installation.
9. Set aside the flexible shield for re-installation.
10. Rotate the control board to the right to access the J5 ribbon cable
connector (F) plugged into the back. Unplug the connector to release the
control board assembly.

INSTALLING THE NEW CONTROL

BOARD

To install the new control board:

1. Reconnect the J5 ribbon cable connector (F) to the back of the new
control board. The connectors are keyed for proper alignment.
2. Install the control board and flexible shield (B) onto its mounting frame
and secure with the four screws, starting with one screw in the top right
and one in the bottom left. Install the remaining two screws with the
metal clips in the top left and bottom right positions. Torque the screws
to 8.8 lb-in (1.0 Nm).
3. Connect the cable at J18 (F) on the top left of the control board.
4. Install the pull-apart customer interface terminal strips (D)on the bottom
of the control board.
5. Replace any option card (D) that was installed on the old control board
and replace the keypad display (A).
6. Replace the plastic door cover by pushing the bottom post into its hinge,
sliding the top post into its hinge, then closing the cover.
7. Replace the front sheet metal cover and secure it with the screws
removed during disassembly.
8. Restore the drive controller configuration at first power up.
