montage
Description I made an inspirational
piece by blending photos together
using the masking tool in Adobe
Photoshop.
Programs used Photoshop
Date May 27 2016
Course # & Section Comm 130
Section 4
Instructor name Brother Derek
Miller

Objective Unify a layout with
a consistent theme and dominant
spiritual message

Learn to blend two or more
images together gradually, using
masks

Demonstrate more advanced
Photoshop skills for layout with
multiple elements

Use a mask to apply a filter to
one part of the image

Apply typography principles
(titles, quotes, events or scripturesyour choice)

Format type: Legibility; Small
copy & Title with varying text size.
Theme word(s)

Select good quality images
Process I was really impressed
when I saw pictures of human faces on Unsplashs website, so that
sparked this idea. I selected photos
and placed them in the background
varying size and opacity thanks to
the help of the masking tool. Then
I placed the top picture of the girl
with the turban and masked the
background so you can see the
other human faces. Then I placed
the quote on the right to follow and
keep the rule of thirds more.

flier
Description This is a color flier
informing people of the upcoming
yoga retreat.
Programs used I designed this using
Microsoft Word.
Date May 14 2016
Course # & Section Comm 130
Section 4
Instructor name Brother Derek Miller

Objective Comprehend image
sizing (how pixels and inches work
together)

Find, scan and import a highquality image.

Create a full-bleed design.

Choose a color scheme and
typeface(s) that work for your
message and audience.

Process: I scanned the

background into a scanner and emailed it to my
computer. I transferred the
image into Microsoft Word
and zoomed into the part
I wanted to be the background of my flier. Light
blue and brick are great
colors that go together
so I added a brick border
and was inspired from the
image to create my flier
to promote yoga/national
park themed event.

Description: Informative black and
white flier for the Graduate Leadership Conference.
Programs used InDesign
Date may 7 2016
Course # & Section Comm 130 Section 4
Instructor name Brother Derek Miller

Objective Apply the design
principles and use appropriate typography.

Incorporate basic InDesign
skills to improve basic flier layout.

Retrieve image and logo from
links on this page.

Create a project folder with
image, logo and InDesign document
to keep links in InDesign intact.

Process
I first started off with my design
that had half circles at the bottom
and top of the page, but I thought
the sharper angles on triangles
would be better suited for a leadership conference. I knew I wanted
an all black background with white
text because its a better contrast.
The picture of the man and woman
in the flier are the same picture,
but I just separated them and put
them in different corners to add
flow and repetition.

Identify hex colors to match

Open the HTML page in a
web browser and capture a quality
