Taxonomy Fish taxonomy is study of naming and classifying of fishes, both extant and
extinctliving organism in scientifically matter. Significant The significance of taxonomy in
conservation is the early identification of the living members organism such as marine fishes.
For many decades, taxonomy provides providing basic life history data, of all marine fishes
and which is necessary eventually helps for conservationists to categorizeing the species
conservation statuswhich species is facing extinction problem. The challenge remains as the
marine biodiversity itself have its own complex bibliography and not all the marine fishes are
recorded yet. Meanwhile, classical taxonomists need require lot of morphological traits to
delineate species, which in some case, new species identification would consume longer
time due to deficient data. Today, taxonomy is in race with fast rate of marine fishs extinction
due to human activity activities and natural disasters. To counter-act the issue,
Mithochondrial (mt) DNA Barcoding barcoding has been is ideally incorporated in various
aspects of taxonomy studies since the last decade or so. aspect and gradually accepted by
taxonomy society. MtDNA barcoding is the molecular technology that comprising of short
(below 700 basepairs) standardized sequence of cyctochrome oxidase 1 (CO1) for fast
identification of recorded species and some in case, discovery of new marine species is
possible. Similarly, CO1 sequence capable of identify taxa as it identical of how 11-digit
universal product codes recognize sell product. Particular strength of mtDNA barcoding is
identification and discovery of marine fishes is way cheaper and faster especially when there
is financial constraint for some conservation efforts. Standardised single sequence is used
rather than whole genome of organism promise a cheaper way to access the marine
biodiversity at faster pace. This eventually speed up the whole conservation efforts and
allow policy maker to evaluate the conservation status on endangered marine fishes. This
review paper will highlightsed the technology of mtDNA barcoding in speed up thefacilitating
marine biodiversity conservation.
