BROCHURE
Description:

This brochure advertises a science fiction museum in Hollywood, CA.

Programs:

Adobe Indesign
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Photoshop

Date:

July 9, 2016

Course and Instructor:

COMM 130 Section 7
Lindsey LeFevre

Objectives:

To demonstrate the various skills and design concepts I have learned

throughout the semester.

Process:

This project was designed and put together in Adobe InDesign, but all of
the individual photos were modified in Photoshop to fit the color scheme
better (red, yellow, and blue). In addition, the the second cosmos picture
behind most of the body copy was darkened to provide better contrast,
the Batmobile was edited into the picture with the DeLorean from Back
to the Future and KITT from Knight Rider and the TARDIS was cut out
to be put subtly on the front in InDesign. The cutting out of both the
Batmobile and the TARDIS was done with the quick selection tool and
touching it up with the brush tool as a mask. In InDesign the document
was aligned and planned using many ruler lines to guide it and the curved
elements were made using the pen tool. The text was also added and
text wrap was used around the curved image of the original Enterprise
bridge. The Logo was created in Adobe Illustrator using various text
modification tools.

Objectives:

To learn how to use Adobe Illustrator and its tools.

Process:

These logos were created in vector in Adobe Illustrator. I first created

three very different logos that I asked a lot of peoples opinion on. The
top two were a simple one with a more futuristic font and a more busy/
complex one with a shield surrounded by three dragons. I decided to
have the best of both worlds and added a side dragon into the simpler
one, only having to adjust the center line and elements of the dragons to
obtain better alignment. I would like to point out that the dragons tail
encompasses ENT; ENT being short for entertainment. I made it with
the pen tools and a lot of adjustments with the direct selection tool. The
center line is just rectangle because a stroke wouldnt scale.

WEB PAGE
Description:

A web page I made to show how I made my logo.

Programs:

Notepad++
Adobe Photoshop

Date:

June 25, 2016

Course and Instructor:

COMM 130 Section 7
Lindsey LeFevre

Objectives:

Use basic HTML and CSS coding for editing web pages.

Process:

This was created using HTML and CSS in the program Notepad++. I
started with basic HTML and CSS code which I modified to fit the theme
and feel of the logo. I used Adobe Photoshop to get the colors from the
logo to use for the page elements but darkened the lime for the body
text so the contrast wouldnt be as sharp. Photoshop was also used to
determine how much padding I needed to add to the right of the logo to
compensate for the dragon so the text is what was centered.
In HTML I made all the main elements of a webpage and some additional
things including a title, headers, body text, and an unordered list. I
rounded the corners of the body using CSS to made it blend in better with
the theme.

PHOTODESIGN
Description:

A photodesign flier advertising the COMM 130 Visual Media class.

Programs:

Adobe Photoshop

Date:

Course and Instructor:

COMM 130 Section 7
Lindsey LeFevre

Objectives:

Demonstrate photography and Photoshop skills by using a color scheme

with an original photo taken by me.

Process:

I set out looking in the Ricks Gardens on campus looking for a good shot
that could work with an analogous color scheme. I took shots of mostly
statues when I came across this one and saw it as a great opportunity to
demonstrate lead space. In Photoshop, I edited the levels and vibrancy in
addition to using the selective color tool to make the bricks more red, the
statue more orange, and the wall more white. The clone tool was use to
remove a distracting black hole in the wall. This focal point of the statue
looking off added to the visual flow because I gave it a curved theme
to follow the arch by the marquee and selection transform tools. The
typography was chosen to fit the textured feel of the photo.

MONTAGE
Description:

An inspirational montage made using two images blended together, and

the use of typography.

Adobe Photoshop

COMM 130 Section 7
Lindsey LeFevre

Objectives:

To practice blending images together in Photoshop.

Process:

I brought the image of the temple into by 118.5 document in Photoshop

and used the levels filter on it to balance it out. I then used the color
selection tool on the sky and the temple to make them more gold and
violet respectively to make it fit into the color scheme. I brought in the
image of Elder Talmage and added contrast so I could fade him more
with his features still visible. I added a layer mask and a feathered brush
tool to get the desired effect and lowered his opacity to blend him in so
he wont detract from the temple. I used the marquee tool to make the
box and lowered its opacity and aligned the quote and name text.

FLIER
Description:

A graduate leadership conference black and white flier.

Programs:
Adobe Indesign

Date:

May 7, 2016

Course and Instructor:

COMM 130 Section 7
Lindsey LeFevre

Objectives:

To show basic design through a sketch and to learn the basics of

InDesign.

Process:

I started out by making a few sketches of design layouts that I thought

would work. After choosing one that I liked, a created a draft in Adobe
InDesign. I used the rectangle tool to start the quadrilateral sections and
modified them with the direct selection tool being careful to line up the
sides in such a way that they fit together. Ruler guides were very helpful
in making sure the alignment of the elements was correct. From the title,
to the sub heading, to the body, and to the date, time, and place goes from
the most contrast to the least to create a visual flow. The logo, image, and
content was provided for me.

BUSSINESS CARD
Description:

A bussiness card and orginal logo created in vector graphics.

Programs:

Adobe Illustraror
Adobe InDesign

Date:

June 11, 2016

Course and Instructor:

COMM 130 Section 7
Lindsey LeFevre

Objectives:

Making a coheshive business card design with an original logo and

stationery.

Process:

I created the logo and business card in Illustrator using mostly the
rectangle and transform tools. They were used on the shapes as well
as the text to make them fit better. I opened up InDesign and directly
imported the Illustrator file so it would automatically update and added
an outline so it is easier to see.

Objectives:

Making a coheshive stationery design with an original logo and business

card.

Process:

I set it up with the same scheme as the business card using the same line
element to keep it consistent. I also adjusted the position and layout of
the elements to make it more practical and eliminated the gray cross
section so it wouldnt blanket the page.

EVENT AD
Description:

A color full-bleed event ad to promote a fundraiser using only Microsoft

Word and a scanner.

Programs:
Microsoft Word

Date:

May 14, 2016

Course and Instructor:

COMM 130 Section 7
Lindsey LeFevre

Objectives:

To learn how to scan in images at the proper dpi and design with
Microsoft Word.

Process:

I scanned my picture of Adam West and made a design to represent his

most known role as Batman. I used a very colorful pallet that fits the
show and gave it a layout that resembles comic book panels. This gave
a lot of good opportunity for alignment. I emphasized the alignment by
making pencil lines that continue off the panel like a comic page original
copy. Making the lines look like pencil was tricky. I used the line tool and
then applied a gradient with several gradient stops of different shades of
gray and gave it a slight, centered drop shadow. The focus point is the
title which points down to the picture of Adam West who looks at the
body and leads into the information. It was all created in Microsoft Word.
